GoldLeader's Tip of the Day: Never slap a Buffalo ...and...stand there.

So, Game Stop is getting into the NFT biz...(Uck!)...Does this really surprise anyone? I don't think I've really liked that place since about 2005 (at the latest)...And their stock is up 20% in premarket.
Well, ya heard it here first. (Probably)

Or maybe, just maybe they could have had a passion for video games, an interest in "retro" because it was fun, not because it was a cash grab, carried more stuff, hired better people, trained said people better, carried more controllers for Every system, carried all versions of Flashbacks, kept bobbleheads and dumbass products to a minimum, not bombard customers with the latest thing as soon as they walk through the door, listened to customers, paid attention to market trends, carried homebrews, given more than 3 cents on the dollar for trade-ins, carried what people wanted, offered to special order things when they (inevitably) Don't have it in, and kept boxes for All used games to the best of their (admittedly limited) ability...

When I was a kid I had this pinball machine. It was It was maybe 3-4 feet long or so, elevated about 4-6 inches above the ground, had what looked like 3/4 scale balls, but it had Real Bumpers and Real Flippers. The bumpers lit up when hit, too. Unfortunately I can't remember what it was called. Once, I got a ball forever stuck under the rubber band triangle and the company sent me a free 5 pack of balls. It seemed a lot cooler than all the toy pinballs ya can buy now, and was almost like the real thing. And I've never seen one on eBay, but like I say I can't remember what it was called, or the company that made it. (Kinda wish I still had it)...

Update: The sun is already out...Melting it up a little bit, mainly in the roads...And ya know, I was just gonna be lazy and not even shovel, but I think my EXGF may stop by later and she may be bringing music and beer so I better bust out a quick path. Don't want her tracking stuff in to the house.

So wouldn't you Always be feeding your Gremlins after Midnight? (Or Mogwai excuse me (heh)). It always bugged me that they didn't make that rule clearer. They could have said sunup until midnight...I mean, I get it, horror movies love the word Midnight...Sounds sinister...Seemed more evil when I went to bed at 10 O'Clock as a young buck. Nowadays staying up til 2AM, Midnight is not as scary as 3AM!

I believe the problems associated with "Instantaneous Hyperspace" in Star Wars are roughly the equivalent of The Teleporters in Star Trek,...It's the same as Cell Phones in Horror Movies...Wait a Minute! (For some contrived sounding made up reason), I've got No Bars! Now the Hillbilly Cannibals are going to eat me! Wish I could just beam out of here...And I would, if it wasn't for that Ion Storm.

This is a very fair point @GoldLeader. Technology can be an instant solution in many stories. I like reading older, public domain stories that have older technology to see how they handled things; in particular, communication. One great example is "The Secret Adversary" by Agatha Christie, staring Thomas and Tuppence Beresford. They used telegraphing services quite a bit. The story was written and set in 1922 (nearly 100 years ago). Maybe someone should program a game based on public domain stories like this one.

So...Negative for COVID (Yay!) but Positive for Influenza A, which I am fighting while still dealing with this Pneumonia, (and a possible heart thing but 2 crises at a time is probably good for now)...Still, I called in for tomorrow and despite no $$ this week, I look at the couch where I will soon be nestled with my gaggle of remotes, kicking back in comfort watching whatever I want, and the Phoenix nearby with a few new games...And I can't help but smile.

Today's Status Update is brought to you buy the (not thought of in a long time) song Walk the Dinosaur. In 1987 it had at least 6 fans, I mean I figure the band liked it and probably a few of their girlfriends. And by the movie from 1988, Johnny Be Good, because I was just thinking how I never think about it...Other movies I never saw include Maniac Cop and The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking also from 1988...And did you watch Spenser: For Hire in 1985? I know I sure don't remember whether I did or not.

^Love it! Now...Is it just me or, if you speed up Puttin' on the Ritz...Does it not suddenly sound like Istanbul Not Constantinople? That's OK, I thought Ghostbusters and I want a New Drug sounded alike too, ...but still give Zep the credit for Stairway even if it does have the Spirit of Taurus (Haah!)

Ya know, I figure it's a little tricky dealing with obscurity...If I remember correctly, it's one of my favorite things. (Like I don't know if I remember because ...it's obscure haaaa) ... I mean it's all too easy to come up with something Everyone's heard of...And something No One's heard of, but to come up with something everyone remembers that they forgot about. Now that's a trick.

When I was younger, I'd be sick with a cold, and my brother would say "You Need Tequila!" I'd say "Will that cure a cold?" And he'd say, "No, but you won't care!"

So, Back in the 90s or whenever; Did ya ever rent a movie only to discover partway through that you'd already seen it, and must have rented it in the past? Happened to me with Another 48 Hours.

Today: I went in for a cough, Ended up in the ER! Also had my first ambulance ride. I'm fine, BTW. It's just (well just a pneumonia, but I've had worse While talking to the doc he took my heart rate twice then they gave me an EKG, Then he said, He had no idea how I was functioning, that I should be passed out, and I needed to go to the ER immediately, and he wouldn't let me drive...

Came home from work to an open front door and the foyer door also open. No unusual cars nearby, so I figure the crazy wind did it...I made a beeline for the kitchen and grabbed a knife, then searched the house room by room. No one. I guess I forgot to latch the front door properly the other day, and didn't even lock it. Maybe I went out the front door, but came back in through the garage or something. Not like me, but nothing's missing or anything...

Anyone else having "fun" trying to find out when they quit picking up your grass barrel? Here's the answer: Whenever you need them the most, They quit doing it the week before. You'll have to take more of your time driving it to the compost heap on your day off, IF they're open and of course "No Large Loads" after 4:30PM because why wouldn't they be difficult for no reason?

If you've never tried it, type this into Google.
the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything.

Haha, saw you mentioning the HHG in a post a few days ago, almost commented then.
I still have my copies from the mid 80's, at least a couple, a couple have had to be replaced-I started reading them when I was about 11, haha, I was a PBS kid, had seen and liked the BBS shows(I was a weird kid...).
I always like throwing things out there that almost noone else had ever heard of, SEP's, the Ravenous Bugblatter solution to avoiding problems, etc, etc, it was almost like my own set of inside jokes.
Was a grown up by the time the movie came out, it really blew me away that they were gonna do a big budget deal, but I have to admit, tho it wasn't exactly bad, the movies don't come close to doing justice to the books, seriously.
I imagine Life, the Universe, and Everything is my favorite, I really dig that one.
*Edit*
Oh, and explaining to people the concept of how to fly, missing the ground, That was always fun.

@Max_Chatsworth I figured you guys would supply the context...And I'm never disappointed!

@Razzie.P I still have a Team America poster up in my living room! Seeing it in the theater was an experience...It's even funnier when you're there in a room full of people I think.

So...What's everyone doing for Halloween?

@GoldLeader Making lasagna Johnny.
-
@GoldLeader: don't forget The Ungroundable. Burning down Hot Topic seems like a reasonable Hallowe'en activity (or any other time of the year, really).

+ The Scoots, and Sons a Witches! South Park does have a bunch of good ones...And there's all those Simpsons Treehouse of Horror episodes...Always liked those, but we don't have Halloween Specials so much like we do Christmas specials. Then again as a kid, just seeing something animated during Prime Time was something special

Reading this book and one character tells another that the 80s show Joanie Loves Chachi was Huge in Korea because Chachi means penis in Korean.
No idea if that's true, by the way...

Re: Phantasm I think the first one as a self contained movie is just Awesome! But I like the ideas so much that I enjoyed the sequels too, Esp. Ravager (If you've ever read behind the scenes about it) as it's a small miracle that it even got made, and it wraps things up nicely with interdimensional explanations.

Yup! For a few weeks when it was a big deal...I played a lot of StarHawk in 1979 when I was 11!
-
I love that game and it has a special place in my memory because my older brother and I used to play it almost every Saturday morning at King Louis West entertainment center here in my hometown. It was this great place that had an ice rink, bowling alley, arcade, and bar. As a kid, I really saw pinball machines give way to arcade games one week at a time in the late 70's/early 80's at that place. Our sister had figure skating lessons every Saturday morning and my brother and I would play Starhawk and Warrior almost every week. As a kid, it always reminded me of the trench/Death Star scene from Star Wars.

A Poem for my AtariAge Feed.
The Fall
Alt title: The Autumn, an equinox for the solstice of the mind
Trees are green.
Trees are good.
Except in the Fall,
When Trees become Assholes and start dumping their leaves all over the goddanged place.
Knock It Off you MotherSmurfin' Trees!
? (*Thank you*)

Not always; only when the commercials contain viceral violence, horror and disturbing images and are not adviced for viewing by general audiences.
-
I always think of this beer commercial, where the friends jump off a cliff and dive into the ocean, and the commercial says something like, "Why haven't you jumped?" (And everybody's smiling and happy) And the guy jumps, of course, and all is well...But if you pause it and read the fine print, it advises Against doing dangerous things while drinking...Of course.

So I just read an old article that (basically) said Microsoft would release the Microsoft Scorpio (Or possibly XBOX Scorpio), an XBOX that is Backward and FORWARD compatible so you never have to buy another one, and SONY would release PlayStation NEO which was supposed to do the same. I don't keep up, but... Those never happened right? Like the Jaguar VR...Or they changed the name and their game plan.
-
2016. I think Sony's became PlayStation 4 Pro (or something) and Microsoft released a Scorpio Edition XBOX, whatever that is. Like I say, I really don't keep up, but the idea seemed intriguing...Not sure how they'd do Forward compatibility; Seems like it would require an analog update of some sort. For example, (quick idea off the top of my head) a hardware module that snaps into the unit...
-
Scorpio Edition was the “limited edition” launch of Xbox One X. It just had some fancier artwork and a scorpion or something engraved on the CPU.
Technically, they’re keeping that promised “forward compatibility” stuff so far, as I understood it to be. They were basically saying that all games made from that period forward will be guaranteed to work on their future hardware. So all games released from that point for Xbox One would be 100% compatible with their next console (series X) and the ones after that (Series XX, and Series XXX or whatever) and so on…
So if you buy a Series X, should be able to say “this is backwards compatible with all XBox One games.“ And several years from now, Series XX should be bc with everything from Series X and Xbox One. And several years from that, Series XXX should be bc with Series XX, Series X, and Xbox One.They might blow it later, but seems ok so far. I think the big “get out of this promise free” card is gonna be how they’re leaning hard into streaming and cloud stuff. I dread it. I hate the thought of it. But that seems to be their next big thing.

Sugar Corn Pops! Do geese think they're good? It's not a phone, it's a Helios. Mitsubishi - The word is getting around. Diet Pepsi. Uh Huh! Give'em some Waffelos Bill! From the land of sky blue waters (waters) Hamm's, The beer refreshing...Hamm's!

@ClassicGMR And here I thought I had some people barely remember! Seems like there's always a couple I can't even find on youTube...

Snow forecast for WED Morning...I guess Fall really is here.

Fashionably Late, I ordered my RetroN 77 on 7-9-2018; Hooked it up last night. Worked on getting that Community Build Firmware image flashed last night...Got it working just now!

Well it is a nice console once you put the community update on it ... having said that I have owned mine for at least a year. Can't tell you with any certainty how long I have had it. I updated it, played 2-3 games and, well, there it sits. I use my Pi setups, emulation laptop and Playstation Classic consoles to play Atari. It just never occurs to me to boot it up.
-
@ClassicGMR yeah as I've noticed; It's one of those systems you forget that you have (heh). I ordered it as soon as they went on sale and there is a 6 (in Sharpie) on the box, so I always wondered if I got the 6th one?

I know it's a global phenomenon and all, but is anyone else watching SQUID GAME? Pretty Intense huh? DAMN!! Haven't felt this way since Stranger Things, Love, Death & Robots, and Tiger King.
