  1. Thanks for this!

I just played it on my Atari FB Portable... It is pretty awesome!

I don't mind the flashing that much, but admittedly this one's easier on the eyes. It would have been cool if this was a hidden menu option BITD. Or even a Selectable version. If I had programmed that game I would have made only special enemies cause a screen flash...

  2.

;-) Not happening (at least with AtGames), but I'm surprised no one has pursued that in Japan, where the PC Engine was obviously extremely popular and well supported. There haven't even been any PC Engine compilations for newer consoles (that I'm aware of).

Funny, I Always think of Turbografx as Huge! But I mean that in the "Punk Rock" way of saying something is "Huge"..Like BITD we used to describe smaller bands that had huge followings, Quite different than Major Label bands......As in it's Huge in small circles...Those which I happen to frequent, I guess...It has a huge Underground cult following...

And Yeah, Whereas SEGA was a big star here in the States, in Japan it was all about PC Engine versus Famicom...

With proper marketing I'm sure a Turbografx or PC Engine Plug and Play would be Awesome! At least to some of us in the underground circles of Retro happy goodness and Funtimes...

  3. Over the weekend I went to Bed Bath and Beyond and snagged one of these with the 20% off coupon. They had them in a huge pile on a display table along with the Genesis and Flashback 7. I loaded the games up on a 512mb SD I found kicking around the house, and yeah, this thing is pretty cool.

And may I add that I've never played the Pac Man 8K rom before. It's probably the most impressive 2600 game I've played!

Games I've been playing the most:

    -Asteroids

    -Frogger

    -Cosmic Ark

    -H.E.R.O.

    -Pac Man 8K

    -Star Trek: Strategic Operations Simulator

    -Dragster

    -Enduro

    -Gorf

I'm hoping the SD slot makes its way to the Flashback TV consoles. That would be pretty cool.

I'm thinking That would sell a whole bunch more Flashbacks!!

  4. They got the portables out now. Do I still get whacked if I picked up the Pacman and Space Invaders Mini LCD games instead? They had an entire end display of those at BBB. My fiance and I went there to shop for gifts and I got the mini LCD arcades for myself. They're currently being held hostage at her apartment... ;-)

I wouldn't mind one two of those myself!

Low on money though...They'll have to wait...

  5. A little OT, but it sounds like there's a lot of familiarity with the Genesis portable here. Anyone know a good source for that now? BB&B only carries the Atari portable and the Genesis TV console, and now I'm looking for a Genesis portable to go alongside it for Xmas. Online it looks like it's tough to get one for less than $50 (which isn't bad, I guess, but now I've been spoiled with 500+ Atari games in my hand for around $35!

I could swear I saw some of those at Target about 3 weeks ago...At very least it's worth a phone call or a quick trip if you're going there anyway...

  6. So Everybody...

I just had a weird thought ...A random event popping into my head for but a brief second.

Like one of those strange falling out of bed on your way to get coffee thoughts that usually disappear into the ether or that maybe you don't want to post because they make no sense...but then every once in a while you do anyway...

So Imagine today you are given a choice...

    Buy an Atari Flashback Portable

    or

Hit yourself in the head with a hammer

I do hope everyone makes the right choice!

Thanks for putting up with me LOL!

  7.

Yes, all existing issues with all the products and then some will be put to bed in 2017. Of course, I can't promise that there won't be new issues that crop up, but at least they'll be different issues, so the issues should be far less boring next year. ;-)

    Bill,

It's posts like this that make me very glad you exist! To put a fine point on it...I feel I owe you a beer or something!...Keep on Keepin' on OK?

From the "damning with faint praise" department: Tiny Cartridge's review

That might be one of the best reviews I've ever seen! Not the whole thing though, If I'm being honest I didn't read it, ...Not because my attention span is truly smaller than a goldfish today, but because I'm busy and shouldn't even be using this time to post this comment...But those final (I'm assuming) 3 sentences....That sums a up a lot in a concise way. And I've felt that way before too. I generally get far more surrealistic or post modern on explaining my viewpoint and probably lose people unaccustomed to subtlety or middle ground...

    Good Job Tiny Cartridge!

(And Good Job Flojomojo for quoting Tiny Cartridge!)

Also Good Job to those still reading tiny fine print at the bottom that is crossed out and half sized and God knows what else...You rock at life and found the Easter egg in my post, go get yourself a cold one...You've earned it!

  9. That does look fantastic! I remember I let my mom talk me into throwing out my Coleco box and it was pretty much perfect shape too (*kicking self*)..

When I got my ColecoVision, I'd ordered it through the mail (which took probably 6-8 weeks or whatever things took back then), and I began calling the company to make sure they sent it...My friend ordered his from the same company (Maxaron Home Entertainment) and got it almost a month early; I got mine 2 days after they'd arrived in stores (late August '82 I'm thinking)...But when I finally got it I was in a state of disbelief, because they'd just kept telling me to check for it each day ...Finally saying, "OK It should be there tomorrow..."

And that day I raced home from Junior high school and saw that box right on my porch! They just sent that box (no outer box), and set it right on the porch! My brother joked that I should claim we never got it and get him one...

I'm pretty sure you're not a Time Lord or a Q, just some nerd with a rich inner life. :-D

Though I know what you mean ...we have been talking about an official portable Atari for ages. I dug up an old thread with links to other discussions. The original idea was definitely to have at least one 9-pin controller port on it.

    http://atariage.com/forums/topic/110146-obsolete-do-you-plan-to-buy-a-flashback-2-portable/page-1

I had no idea the idea for this thing had been around for so long! ... Not that it surprises me. :-o

  11. Grr, can't get the SD card to work... 4GB card, just keeps going back to the main menu with SD CARD BROWSER selected... Tried all the tricks (formatting with the SD Card tool, just a 'Game' folder, and currently one ROM (Digdug.bin from the compatibility thread)... Won't work. (Tried the full folder and 'Doc Clu's Favs' as well).

The only odd thing is that it's a Micro SDHC card in an SD Card adapter... That _shouldn't_ matter, I wouldn't think, but has anyone gotten a Micro in an adapter to work?

    I'm using a micro too...Let's see...Mine is a 4GB Sandisk Micro in an adapter...Works like a champ!

  12. Nah, they are two busy with their Season 20 opener, a ten part mini-series on "Member Berries", the 2016 presidential election, gender wars, internet trolling, and global conflict. Exciting conclusion to air next Wednesday evening.

I think a reference to the NES Mini would be gold though. You are only truly relevant as a company/celebrity/etc when Southpark lampoons you or one of your products. I still remember when Cartman froze himself in an attempt to nab the Wii, only to be thawed out centuries later into the future, with no display device capable of rendering the video. :rolling:

    I can see it now...

And I am die hard. If I don't find one soon I will die hard.

Don't give up the faith brother! Haha...I'm sure you'll get one. :)

Tenacity (and perhaps some patience) go a long way...

Sometimes there is some real psychology coming into play here. We always want what we can't have...I consider myself very lucky to have gotten a Pre-production Atari Flashback Portable, for instance. And I do love Arcade Space Invaders! But suppose I had not gotten one? And how many times have I actually played Space Invaders since I've had it? (Once I think LOL)...And things are so much easier to actually score today then when we were younger.

For instance as a kid (a kid in his 20's haha), I always wanted a Green Game Boy...And I'd say it took literally years to get one, looking in stores and the wild before the internet...But NOW I have 2 of them plus a Green Game Boy Pocket ! :-D

You definitely won't die without one,...

But I say, Good luck and enjoy the ride!

  14. A lot of time it becomes a "time & work" Vs. money situation...

Personally I like bundles and of course getting some games with a console purchase...In most instances if someone is buying a console, they don't have any games yet. Unless of course it's a "replacement" console or they collected for it ahead of time, or it has backwards compatibility...But those are rare instances.

The flip side, however, is that you get more money if you sell the games separately, but it's a lot more time and work...

I think exactly how you are planning to do it makes a lot of sense...It's kind of a "middle ground" in the time & work vs. money scenarios...

  15. Man that sucks Jin!

I Don't know what it is about 7800s! I have 3 and none are perfect...One has a very nice top but the bottom is cracked and missing some small plastic pieces...still works just fine and looks nice since you don't see the bottom; That's the spare one I'm selling (awaiting a reply actually),. Then I have 2 that I sent away to Canada to be modded. This was 12 or 14 years ago...Got nice A/V and S-Video mods done to both, but guess what? Even packed well, UPS managed to get the box smashed and the 2 consoles took a hit with one showing damage to the top of it! I actually just took a cash settlement as I recall, because I didn't want to have to wait to play 7800 again...And they play fine...And overall they're just a bit scratched up, not destroyed or anything...I barely notice anymore, But I've seen nicer looking ones...

It does seem unless you get a boxed version, it might be rough...And then the seller should pack it for the apocalypse and pray the Post Office or UPS do their jobs...It's funny I've had them deliver the most intricate, delicate things with no problems but a sturdy console can be damaged...It boggles the mind...I once got a Super Famicom game from Japan and the guy put in this little hand made origami paper crane "For Good Luck" and its wings weren't even folded!

And I understand what you guys are saying about ebay...I just saw one on there that was "console only", talking no hookups, no controllers, no games, no power supply ...UNTESTED, No Returns! $70! oh and he still had the audacity to charge ANOTHER $30+ for shipping!

I've usually had better luck on ebay than that though...LOL

  16. I still haven't gotten issue #12 :???:

At first I was going to make a joke like Ah you're not missing anything! Then I thought maybe something about how Mike still checks Facebook,... maybe complain there. Then I thought Hold on! I don't have #12 either!! Then I reread the Facebook post and noticed it said, "We're putting the finishing touches on #12"...So it's probably not out yet.

Then I signed up for Reading Comprehension 101...And I signed you up too, so we can get group rates :rolling: :rolling:
