  1. I think he was asking for English docs on TurboDOS-XE. However, the link you pointed to does have this warning: "Please take into account, that the DOS was modified by Kyan! It is not possible to use a normal DOS 2.5 from another disk! The modifications (loading-routines) are moved into $480 up to $6FF. This is mentioned in the document in chapter DOS 2.5, but only there!"
  2. Dark maroon and jade green.. was there another color variant? "...In time they will produce video games geared more towards educational concepts, which is one area Atari did not allow us to photograph." 🤫
  3. There is no reason to do that if you format DSDD. Flippy disks are for single sided use and only one of the two XF mechs supports it.
  4. This thread reminds me of the jolt of reality I had when moving from logic classes to VLSI chip design at University. Things get weird when analog, digital, and physics meet.
  5. The 1050 Diagnostics disk is just a plain disk. Heck, the binaries could be copied however you want. Or boot it via whatever method you prefer. The analog Alignment disk (which is a different part number) is specially formatted and for use with SillyScopes to align the heads, etc. This disk can not be hand made. Some folks of resorted to using official Atari factory formatted disks to help them align if things are really out of whack, but nothing will produce the signals from the original alignment disks.. AFAIK.
  6. Spoken as if from someone who hasn’t used a Duplicator on a WST mech. 😀 There is a thread around here where someone did timings of several upgrades.
  7. Bah! Track buffer makes baud rate very important for speed. Nothing like reading a disk as if it were being formatted.
  8. Same with me. The USD came with SDCS and I never needed to write ED after that. It could read it, if need be... but after going DD, I never looked back.
  9. PB5 and 6 are run to a new LS158, PIN 16 of the socket, however, I'm not sure where that goes..GND? Tying socket pin 16 to 15 and you are tying VBE to GND possibly?
  10. There is an analog alignment disk… that can’t be found anymore. Other than that the diagnostic disk won’t do anything if the drive doesn’t post.
  11. Society adjusts after much fighting, Unionizing, and political back door payouts. Sure, we don't ride horses to work anymore, but I best not talk about reducing coal usage. I yearn for the day that AI is better than a human at programming. In fact, I don't think it will be that hard given a lot of today's coders that I've worked with suck at performance, elegance, fault management, unknown condition exceptions... at least AI won't retort to pointing out such errors with "oh, yeah, I didn't think of that."
  12. Read the manual: https://archive.org/details/1050FSMRebuiltAKH pages 2-2 and 2-3. This sounds like a heat issue/ failing component/solder joint.
  13. Interesting that the BOT Engineering board version 1a used 8 x 4164 and the 1b2 board used 8 x 4416
  14. Over in the for sale thread there is a Canadian 600XL with factory 64K sticker. Does anyone have information on the factory upgrade?
  15. Whatever you wind up purchasing, do not buy 5.25" HD. They will not work well. Stick with DD if you can find them.
  16. Interactive vs non-interactive shells behave differently. You might just need to source your environment in the script that freezes: BASH_ENV="$HOME/.profile" or .bashrc or whatever.
  17. @Beeblebrox has some good ideas for shipping. I once shipped a Vertex (which is basically a small TV set) and re-enforced the corners of the box with L brackets cut from yet another heavier shipping box. And yes, bubble wrap that thing so it doesn't move. I'm curious what Amiga you have. You can always post over in the for sale thread with best offer and or pickup.
  18. What is worrisome is that I can remember that from when I first played it in the 80's, yet, I have a hard time remembering what I did yesterday.
  19. Keep this up and I’ll start another thread discussing ignoring this thread.
  20. Read the manual! To Turn Right or Left, press the fire button while pushing the joystick to right or left.
  21. You actually run 'win64 Altirra64.exe' from the CLI and it works fine? You mean "wine64 /Applications/Atari/8Bit/Altirra/Altirra64.exe" or are you already in the Altirra folder when you run wine64? I'm assuming you don't & it for background. You also have bash vs zsh on newer OS versions to contend with. I'm not sure if wine64 is adding things to shell startup scripts. You could add "env; set" to your bash script to see if the output matches the same as running it on the cli.
