  1. It appears as a mega emulator, but in actually it's multiple emulation cores running inside a front end, which is than accessed using a seperate front end. Retroarch is more or less a front end where certain emulators can be recompiled as a core for it. Than a cleaner looking front end is ran on top, such as emulation station or attract mode. 2. Haha, that is great! I feel like an idiot for thinking maybe we could give him benefit of the doubt (many many pages back), or the ways he could come back from this if it were just a unfortunate set of circumstances. After what happened to Willie.....Willies got a big heart, and seeing this new part playing out.....man, I just hope karma comes back on Mike, and Willie at least gets lots of new viewers checking out his work. 3. I prefer the extra info the longer podcasts give. The shorter ones tend to either leave out details or seen kinda bland in my opinion. To each their own. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G530A using Tapatalk
  4. Ianoid, while others may disagree with your opinion, don't let others get ya down. Personally, I really am starting to think Mike was so set on the finished product, and wanted it so bad, that he couldn't see, or even comprehend, what was going on around him. Everything was sacrificed for the end product, and in the end, it cost him everything. However, as the lead of the product, even if he was scammed, he is still responsible for the actions of everyone on the project. So no matter what, its still all on his head. The fact that poor decisions were made directly by him as leader doesn't help matters. That being said, I hope things get better for him. Hoping he finds a way to turn the mag around, and even if he can't, at a minimum, I hope this experience taught him lessons that will help him down the road. Also, Al, any idea on pricing for the system and cart shells? Might use them for a raspberry pi project in kicking around. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G530A using Tapatalk
  5. Normally I would say an engineer career fear seer, but in this case, I prefer coleco retro no go better Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G530A using Tapatalk
  6. To a degree, I feel the same. Those were just a few ideas of how to start the right path. If be open to any other ideas on how he could make amends. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G530A using Tapatalk
  7. I was more of a fan of his work on the show and a Fairhaven supporter. I considered him a friend but in the outter circle. Mine was public because I know Scott Schreiber and Mike James have both talked with him privately, two men much closer to him then I was, and it did no good. I also felt that many people covering the story only said the negative stuff, without covering anything positive and leaving the guy feeling trapped, with no hope of recovering. I know if I were in his spot, I'd want a way out. But his only way out is taking responsibility, something he hasn't done yet. I know everyone will not forgive. But I also know, if he worked hard, was honest, and gave back instead of worked for profit, maybe some of us could forgive. However, none of us can ever forget. That's an important distinction in my opinion. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G530A using Tapatalk
  8. No problem! Just keep in mind I am an amateur writer, and was kinda heartfelt in my opinion. I am well aware my opinion is one that few share. Can Mike Kennedy and the retro community reconcile? April 5th, 2016 The biggest story in the retro community recently has been the saga of the Retro VGS/Coleco Chameleon. I won’t restate the facts here, but if you don’t know about the story yet, please check the Retro Gaming Roundup forums, the AtariAge forums, and the Pat and Ian CUPodcast for more information. The community learned a lot of lessons from this fiasco, but I also think the community may have forgotten some things in the process, and I am guilty of this as well, as can be seen from some of my posts on the RGR forums. While the entire Chameleon project was stricken with poor decisions and easily uncovered lies, a lot of people forgot a few things about Mr. Kennedy. The same guy gave everyone years of entertainment via the Retro Gaming Roundup podcast, and Gamegavel started off as a great idea for gamers to buy, sell, and trade, and I feel it only stagnated when Mike ignored it in favor of Retro Magazine. Even Retro Magazine was a good idea, as the US could really use a well made physical retro gaming magazine. Unfortunately, the magazine focused on the wrong areas and the quality has diminished over the past few issues, to the point where backers and subscribers are owed two issues with no delivery date in sight. We also know Mike could be a generous guy at times. A friend of mine gave me the story of how he told Mike he didn’t own an Atari 2600, and Mike found one at a swap meet with a good amount of games and sent it to him gratis. They weren’t close, just internet acquaintances. He also gave away many prizes from his own personal collection and swap meet finds on the RGR podcast during the live news segment. However, Mike has done severe damage to his credibility. Is it possible for Mike to regain the respect he previously had in the Retro community? I think there is that chance, but it requires a lot of time and work to come back. Even then, I’m sure the Chameleon will be a black eye that will forever mar him, and he will always be ribbed for it. However, he can still regain his standing as an upstanding member of the retro community even with that on him. The first step is the hardest: Mike has to come clean about the entire situation. Complete transparency is a necessity. I am sure Mike and Scott at RGR would give their former co-host a platform to clean the slate if Mike were serious about it. It would be a hard step not just for Mr. Kennedy, but also for Scott and Mike, who were hurt emotionally and financially by the situation, but I think if Kennedy were to come clean, they would help him do it publicly. Next, he would need to make amends to everyone who has taken a hit either financially or to their credibility. Scott Schreiber I know has a financial stake in GameGavel and Retro Magazine that is probably irreparably damaged. At one time Scott was the only such stakeholder outside of Mike’s family. Perhaps if Mike offered some form of compensation, that could go a long way toward repairing that damage. It doesn’t have to be financial compensation, but maybe sending Scott that Stunt Pilot arcade machine or even offloading those doomed Atari Jaguar molds to Scott might be a good start. Finally, he needs to step away from trying to use the retro market as a business venture. To regain that trust, he needs to give something to the retro community instead of trying to profit from it. Stepping back, focusing on Gamegavel, and making it an entirely free marketplace to buy and sell, plus giving the site a revamp to fix the current problems and making it more user friendly would be a great start. Begin making videos talking about gaming memories, perhaps game reviews, and writing articles about why he enjoys retro gaming. Mike used to show how heartfeltedly he loved the community before he let the business side take over. The business side needs to die, and he needs to go back to his roots of why he enjoys these games in the first place. And to everyone else out there reading this, we need to remember that Mike is human. He has made many mistakes, but he has also done a lot of good for this community, and, like all people, he deserves the chance to make things right. I realize he has had the chance to make it right in the past and failed to do so, but some people must hit rock bottom before they can make the climb up again. I hope Mike has the strength to do so. -Chris Leathco Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G530A using Tapatalk
  9. Maybe the word I am thinking of is anger instead of hate. Either way, the words I used right after that were "he deserves it". Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G530A using Tapatalk
  10. I understand that. I know my thoughts are unpopular. I know MANY people can never forgive him. And I also know that his recent posts haven't really helped him. And I also spoke out and posted that as well. But, for those of us who actually talked to Mike years back and remember who he used to be, I wanted to throw it out there. There's been a LOT of hate in this thread, and yes, he deserves it. But I don't think there's anything wrong with someone still asking him to come forward with the truth and to remember why he is here in the first place. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G530A using Tapatalk
  11. The difference is back then, he would admit mistakes. If he screwed up, he took ownership of it. Was he still trying to monetize retro gaming? Yes. But so were people like Keith Robinson. There's nothing wrong with trying to earn a livelyhood doing something you love. The problem is the lies and backstabbing, something Mike didn't do back then. He gave stuff away all the time, in contests on RGR, and also one case of sending someone a 2600 and games for free to someone I know just because he didn't have one. I'm sure he did other gracious things for others. Hell, just being a host on RGR took a lot of his time, and you know what? He was a damn entertaining host in that era. It hurts to see how he changed. I want to see SoCal Mike come back, and see Business Mike go away. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G530A using Tapatalk
  12. Clicks and ad money? Ask pipercub. I write there for FREE, I make NOTHING from there. I write there because I enjoy it. And that article was written because I considered Mike a friend at one time, and it hurts see what has happened. If you truly think I wrote that for clicks and ad money, than copy and post it here. It won't bother me, or anyone else who runs that site. At all. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G530A using Tapatalk
  13. He said "I'm sorry". Not "its my fault". Two different things. A "sorry" followed by blame isn't much of a sorry. He hasn't taken responsibility yet. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G530A using Tapatalk
  14. Not sure. I'm just adding my voice to the crowd, without trying to demonize the man. He made me angry, yes. But....if you look at the Kennedy of 6 years ago with now, its like he is a different person. I want to see the chance.for redemption, not for him to sell another product, but to just be able to talk about the games and era he loves. I'm not sure he can come forward and say the words "its my fault" but I'm hoping he finds the strength to do so. More or less, I want to see less blaming others and more taking responsibility of what happened. But I also want the community to be willing to let Mike make amends if Mike is willing to. I haven't seen it yet, but still hope it happens. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G530A using Tapatalk
  15. I wasn't going to post this here, but after recent events I think I need to. I wrote an article for RGRs blog about how Mike can actually reconcile with the community at http://retrogamingroundup.com/blog/?p=1246. Mike, if you want to come clean, I would highly recommend reading that article. You did a lot of good for this community in the past, and I'm sorry that a lot of that good hasn't been brought up in this thread, but remember the bad things people do ALWAYS will outweigh the good, especially when we see what looked like a complete reversal in personality from you. The story you are posting now has holes, but those holes aren't what concerns me. I haven't seen the words "this is my fault. I'm sorry." As president of the company, you are directly responsible for the people under you. Sean's actions, even if he scammed you, are your fault because you hired him, he was employed by you. As an example, lets say someone entered where I work at and murdered me. My wife has the right to use the employor as have responsibility for my death. You have responsibility for the people below you. Please Mike, turn this around. Its going to be hard. You will have haters for YEARS, some of which who will never come around. Any business ventures in the retro gaming field are prolly gone. But go back to your roots, remember the real reason why you enjoy these games, and the retro community. Its not about making money, business ventures and whatnot. Its about enjoying games from our childhood. Simple as that. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G530A using Tapatalk
