  1. the actions on the gamepad don't match up with the movement onscreen anyway
  2. i remember feeling regret that i was being too negative. then they went with flex funding
  3. the process for getting on their storefront or pushing an update when it's on there is send it to them and a guy will put it up sometime? i feel like i have even more questions than i did before
  4. i thought they would hit whatever goal they set by whatever means. flex funding makes me think they were less confident than i was? the developer section and faq gives the impression they haven't thought that far ahead
  5. to be fair to the taco thread, tacos didn't start appearing til nearly 6 months after the initial announcement and well after the cracks had begun to show. this thing has a way better opening gambit, having some hard dates and a qna coming up makes me feel some cautious optimism
  6. if we're taking bets, i'm gonna guess fixed funding with a medium sized goal that's still far too low for making a console (100k-250k), but they'll put their own money in to force it to the goal and artificially inflate the appearance of interest. kind of a soft flex funding.
  7. how'd that happen? i don't know who owns berzerk now but i don't think it ever touched atari's hands
  8. netflix can run inbrowser on linux now, the entirety of talks may have been: make a button to open a chrome window to netflixdotcom. with their overzealous litigation and (alleged) theft of dev royalties i don't think i could buy anything from neoatari in good conscience even if they make the most amazing indiegogo pitch of all time. i feel depressed about that for some reason.
  9. the ouya is thus far the only thing i put up crowdfunding dollars for and i still use it as a media/emulator box so i feel no regrets. i never bought anything from their store though, since most everything on there was also available on the play store, usually for less money, with the added benefit of not being locked down to a box with an uncertain future. if the ataricrate can have steam on it, and i don't think they could prevent it if they wanted to, why would any human ever buy anything from the proposed atarimarket over steam? why would any dev with a linux version of their game on steam feel like they need to do anything additional at all?
  10. i wouldn't say it costs nothing. whatever market integration is required takes some time, and you're now on the hook for maintenance if their market or os updates introduce new problems. there's certainly a point where you can say it's not worth the effort to press that export button.
  11. pure speculation here. they may believe that once a software marketplace exists then an infinite flood of games will appear, and they can't answer any questions about it because this marketplace hasn't begun development yet.
  12. "Enjoy the Linux-powered Atari VCS to play, create or port your own games and multimedia content." if there's a lack of content it's only because you, the consumer, have yet to develop it
  13. announcing announcements is a lot like a rocket launch
  14. i've heard 'atari punk console' to refer to something generating noise with a pair of 555 timers as far back as ~2005, doubt anyone would even think for a moment they'd suddenly need to acquire official branding
  15. for some reason i assumed 'at e3' meant 'e3 adjacent'
  16. if it was massively low spec and just functioned like a physical pico8 they could probably harvest $50 out of me before i thought about it too much
  17. ignoring everything else, the amount of money i'm willing to flush down the toilet on some novelty product caps at ~$150
  18. i can't wait til they announce the announcement. then the door will be wide open to an infinite number of potential future announcements
  19. since they mentioned the words 'proprietary ui' and a digital storefront, i doubt a bulletpoint would be -throw that nonsense in the trash and run windows instead
  20. maybe it'll run on c batteries for retro appeal
  21. the speakerhat is absurd enough to be endearing, were it not for that ludicrous pricetag i might've even gotten one for fun who knows. my feelings would be different if crowdfunding was involved though.
  22. announcing a preorder date before telling you what the thing even is will be stupid in any era
  23. mk sought game devs well in advance of the rvgs campaign so i'd actually give the chameleon +1 over this
  24. seal atari™ back in the tomb and don't wheel out that corpse til you're ready to quit messin around.
  25. i got a lil pile of games that use a single button or could easily be reduced one button, and there are probably plenty of nostalgia-addled goofs like me who'd plonk some junk on some box for the standard 70/30. maybe that's their super plan i dunno. is there any legit reason for secrecy at this point? it's been 3000 years just show your hand already
