i bought an ouya with the intent to develop for it but never did. they tried to court exclusives a little but i don't think they had the resources to make it very enticing.

 

i was gonna tie that back to current atari but i feel tired thinking about it. i just wanna know what's in the box

i'd be surprised if anyone here genuinely wanted this to fail. even the most optimistic person will eventually suffer from retro™ marketing fatigue though

i have a sears video arcade II also and never had any problem with imagics or any other kind of cart. i guess it's not impossible something was done to it

there's some hobby board with 8-bit capabilities, but I can't remember the name

 

the issue with these things is that the actual old consoles have massive, proven software libraries, and are nigh impossible to compete with

 

that's a bit more limited than i was thinking of. maybe just something like a set of guidelines for a desired aesthetic and a marketplace with some quality control.

i think i would like to see some platform try to create the illusion of uniqueness through self-imposed limitations. it's probably a dumb idea but it would at least be a little interesting

having unique hardware gave stuff more personality and helped it establish an identity. maybe that could be done artificially with a strict marketplace and a dedicated development team but i don't imagine atari going that route

if i'm going on the assumption that they know what the hardware is gonna be and the price point they want to hit and this marketing strategy is just to scour internet discussion for some angle on how to sell it. even with minimal resources and extreme risk aversion there are some options available.

 

if they went thru the list of people who sent them dev emails and entice a few to make timed exclusives in exchange for say. getting access to some license they still have or some atari branded fluff they got in a bin somewhere. i dunno. i'm not sure if they'll play in the dirt with us indies or not.

i feel like the ouyas downfall was competing directly with the play store. if it had been running something other than android maybe it could've established an identity of its own, who knows.

for a corporation it comes off as just shifting the financial risk onto the consumer base. it's only natural to share their lack of confidence
