  1. my personal ridiculous dream is that it actually is a game console, costs no more than 80$ and has open development with moderate standards in the attempt to forge its own identity. if it ran arm linux then hobbyists could still make games for it but they would need to be more deliberate than just pressing a different export button, and if it came with a controller that was just 6 buttons and a dpad then it would encourage development of things the average person might imagine when they think of an atari game. though that might be a dumb idea i dunno :<
  2. i'm sure most people won't write them off entirely without seeing their pitch, but i do hope they're prepared for some intense scrutiny. deep in my heart i'd like this thing to be at least passably respectable :< i'd like to make a game for it too, even if it is just cause i got hypnotized by the woodgrain
  3. i only figured arm/linux cause this thing could live or die on its price point. i ain't no marketeer or nothin, but trying to leverage the power of an established corporate name and running a crowdfunding campaign seem to be two things that would conflict with eachother. i guess it minimizes risk but it does have a cost of confidence in the brand
  4. i just can't imagine it as anything but an arm box running some kind of linux with a custom ui and digital storefront.
  5. i assumed it was an nes game so it could be stuck on a noac
  6. my tomy tutor :< and to a lesser degree my 5150. i don't know where i'd put it even if i did still have it.
  7. composite out on the pi was a big selling point for me, entranced by the nostalgic visions of hammering out basic on the old radiation king. i never got around to actually trying it out, but i'm curious now
  8. i didn't know there was an alternative to the gbp disc, might be digging the olde cube out again to give it a shot. i always ran it thru component so i never noticed much lag, but that z button:options thing sitting on the screen all the time really bugged me for some reason.
  9. i pulled one of them greenbeans out of a lowgrade ps3 knockoff controller and it didn't have any markings on it at all, so i guess don't feel too bad about it being thrown away. it might've been useful to clip that lil connector off of it though. i'd guess what you're looking for is a 3.7v lipo 1200mah or better, getting one that'll fit in there will be the trick. never had a retron5 controller before so maybe someone that knows better could tell you something more useful.
  10. modchips for the ps1 are so easy to make i doubt they'd ever be difficult to find. i have like a dozen pics in a drawer right now that'd do the job
  11. pic12f629s are like $1 so i never imagined doing anything but chipping one. this is pretty interesting though, if i had the items i'd probably give it a shot for fun.
  12. im pretty sure you're correct about that error, and you will need the eeprom to lock the hd. it might be stored on the drive itself depending on how it was modded, usually an eeprom backup is created during the process. failing that you can purchase or build your own eeprom reader. it was just a couple resistors and zener diodes you can solder right onto a header, i think i have a diagram somewhere i could dig up
  13. even that lil platformer game was dropping frames like a mofo in that pitch video
  14. i didn't mean to imply that fan creators are somehow victims, if anything i'm getting weary of this outrage cycle when they are inevitably shut down.
  15. it is a little sad to see the fangame era closing. using spriterips to try and replicate your favorite game is a common place to start for people who want to learn more about game development, it's even kind of a comforting thing for me to return to when i want to try something out but not have to think too much about anything but technical details. the world has changed though and the people making these fan recreations do realize that. it's unlikely either the metroid or pokemon games mentioned earlier would have even been started in the current climate, and only due to being so long in development did they grandfather their way in. no need to get angry at nintendo on the behalf of these people, i doubt they have any such feelings themselves.
