My TI setup is my Christmas gift this year. Now, I just have to wait for my FinalGrom cart to get here... Meanwhile I've plenty of reading to do.
-
I like to thank everyone who went down the path of learning about the TI-99 before me and who are generous with their knowledge in helping a noob like me. It's greatly appreciated!
-
Yep, I already read it. Thanks.

I got mine from Jameco, both the 9v AC and the 5V dc.

All I want for Christmas is... (must be TI-99/4A related)
AMenard replied to Omega-TI's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
Like the song says: It's now or never... I'm not getting any younger The biggest expense so far as been the FinalGrom. The PEB cost me $160Cdn shipped, the beige Ti was about $60Cdn, the silver was from a trade. The floppy disk I got at work from surplus stock destined to be recycled. the rest were pretty much about $20Cdn each or less. Heck, the printer cost me less than the box of fanfold paper that I bought for it. So as you see it isn't really that much of an investment. The next "big" investment will be rebuilding the PSU which will cost me about $100Cdn in parts (I only buy good quality parts) and should boost the output potential to 3amp which will be more than adequate for the two FDD. -

Well, to finish the year on a good note I've just passed an order for a Finalgrom + loaded SD card + cart case to arcadeshopper. So now my TI-99 setup includes: 2x TI-99/4a (one beige non QI and a silver) PEB (Thanks guy for heping me find one for a good, non-eBay, price) TI RS232 card TI 32k Card TI FDD controller Stock FDD that I've repaired (needed a bit of lubrification) One half-height 5¼ FDD (on order) One 3½ FDD (on order) with 5¼ mounting kit FinalGrom (on order) 100 blank 5¼ floppy disk (Kao branded 360k) 100 blank 3½ floppy disk (Sony branded 720k) Epson Actionprinter 4000 So not bad a gift I made to myself. What I still need to get: Floppy cable too hook up both the 5¼ HH and the 3½ FDD internally, which I believe needs a 10-12 pin twist according to a post here by a user named Gazoo. Parallel to centronics cable to hook up the TI to the Epson and then read up on how to print to it (I'm new to the TI world ) F18A (I registered for the waiting list). On my 2018 wishlist (after saving up a bit): P-Code card + UCSD Pascal (Pascal was my first "real" computer language, I make a point of getting one Pascal version on each PC that I own. Yeah I'm weird ) 1mb SAMS card or similar. One of those gizmut that can plug into the RS232 and work as an Ethernet adaptor for getting the TI online (not a big priority but cool none the less). -
Hi, I'm presently offered one but I don't know how much they're worth. Can anyone tell me a in the ballpark estimate of how much I should pay for one?

In other word we're doing the same job but by different title My "clients" are for the most part engineer since I work for the equipment division for the national electricity provider. That's the division that build and repair the dam, powerline and powerstation. I get to work on really nice machine that I can't afford myself -

I'm a tech support analyst. My hobbies are in no particuliar order: documentaries watching, electronics, digital drawing/painting, music and the love of women. -
The last link helped a bit since it included a mod to boost the psu on the 12v (really 16v at that stage since the individual card are the one who drop it down to 12v and/or 5v) from 1a to 2a... Of course, another solution is just to rebuild the existing PSU by replacing the caps, diode and the voltage regulator specified in that mod. The transfo is probably still good as those tend to last for a very long time if they never were overloaded. This link is also nice: https://www.disavowed.jp/index.php?/archives/45-Refurbishing-a-TI-PEB-power-supply.html

Hi, Does anybody knows how many amp does the PEB PSU is rated at on the 16v and 8v line? Also, why not use a 24v PSU with a couple of step down converter to output the 16v and 8v? Something like this: https://www.trcelectronics.com/View/Mean-Well/EPP-300-24.shtml And a couple of this: http://www.minikits.com.au/MP1584-PSU-01

No, it's just that we are so use to instant feedback from the big online retailer that we tend to forget that there are still some mom&pop business out there who don't have the ressources to process as many transactions.

Hi, I'm presently looking for a floppy cable for my PEB that would let me hookup my 5¼" floppy (edge) and my 3½" (pins) floppy drive. Also looking for a parallel->centronics cable for my TI RS232 card to link with my printer.

Another (totally unrelated) floppy drive question

Oh, and I love those old Shugart drives! So simple yet so massive -

Okay, I've found both a 5.25" and a 3.5" that are compatible, sold as tested and working for the 5.25" and new for the 3.5" In the meantime I've fixed my full height original 5.25" in my PEB. The shaft were dry and the carriage was squeeky. I lubricated them and cleaned the head with alcohol and I'm presently running the comprehensive test suite from the disk manager 2 cart. Now up to test 5 and no error yet. -
Yes, that system is a bit of a pain. I understand that it's to prevent the old "sell and disappear" act that some were doing, but it does penalise the honest trader. Personnaly, I don't sell on eBay as a business or to make cash. I mostly sell stuff I don't want anymore to buy other stuff on eBay. I would gladly accept a system where if you want to cash out you have to wait, but if you want to buy stuff on eBay then you have immediate access to your funds.

Never had much success with Amibay myself. The only transaction that wasn't already sniped the moment it shows up by one of the regulars and was able to get, I ended up sending a PS3 all the way to Florida then having to pay for it to be shipped back to me because the other party changed his mind and decided to keep his A1200... I had better success here.

What could be cool is if someone would make either PEB replacement fit in a speech synth... You could insert your SD card by opening up the flap. Now that door would have an actual use

TI-99/4a: Do we need to replace the elect. capacitors in them?
AMenard replied to AMenard's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
Thanks! I've opened my beige yesterday for something unrelated and checked on them while it was open. No signs of leakage or bulging that I could see so I guess it can wait. I'll probably do it on my second TI (aluminium) since I have a couple of things to fix in it, like a sticky switch and a loose video port. -
