  1. I finally put up my pictures up at imgur but here are a few of them if you don't want to travel:

    2DTNyFT.jpg

My Atari 2600 Jr. setup for Space Invaders using a slightly modified Competition Pro joystick.

    fbHu9Nm.jpg

My Atari 5200 setup for Ms. Pac-Man. The console was modified to have separate power and video to remove the need for the special switchbox. To get around the horrible analog joystick controls I used an arcade joystick built into an old Colecovision case and a Wico Command Joystick keypad module all attached to a Redemption 5200 adapter which I got in 2003 but never used until now. It should be pointed out that the poster is for the 2600 version not the 5200 version. BTW, I didn't supply the posters either.

My Atari 7800 setup for the 7800 version of Asteroids. Since the original 7800 controller is marginally better than the 5200 controller I modified an Atari FlashBack Mini 7800 controller to work with the original 7800 console. You can't just plug that controller into the 7800 as it was only designed with the FlashBack so I cut some traces and rewired the controller which was a pain in the ass because of the cramped space. Works much better than the original. Again, the poster is for the 2600 version of the game not the 7800 one.

    UGq1MVL.jpg

My Atari Jaguar setup for Tempest 2000. The controller is a custom made rotary controller connected to a modified joypad to serve as an interface to the console. Once again, the poster is for the 2600 version of the game and actually looks better than the Jaguar version cover.

My first picture with Nolan Bushnell which was taken during the event.

Nolan during his portion of the Rally.

I took this picture of Nolan's shoes after the Rally.

    qm09PQf.jpg

This was taken during the after Rally dinner at Chisme. This is a picture of Graham Weston, one of the founders of RackSpace, Nolan, and Ron Nirenberg, the Mayor of San Antonio. One of the other RS founders, Dirk Elmendorf, was too far away to be photographed.

One more picture with Nolan before going home.

    SqdHpTJ.jpg

This is a game that Nolan was involved with in the late '80s. Had it autographed and took this picture at home after the event.

What? No spa, booze or drugs! Mr. Bushnell is getting old

  2. Dont forget the FinalGROM99

    https://endlos99.github.io/finalgrom99/

I am in the UK and Ti99 stuff is pretty rare here. The home computer market was so cut throat in the 80's that there was very little apart from Cartridges and Cassettes sold. The original cost of a PEB was so high in the UK i dont think there were many sold or now survive. My next upgrades are likely to be new 32K and TiPi sidecars. When they are available.. i hope :)

Yes, the finalgrom99 is quite the device to get. I'll try to get one once I've got some way to load and save the code that I'll write on the TI99. This is my first priority.

  3. What is your neck of the woods? I have a spare P-Box in great working condition, looks good, disk drive, controller and 32K. I have ZERO interest in shipping, but I'd do local pickup for $100.00 even to someone in need and not just looking to flip it for a profit.

I'm in Canada... Province of Quebec as stated below my avatar pic. This also explain why the peb is hard to come by since it wasn't really popular up here.

  4. Hi,

I've been setting up my own little retro computer lab recently an in the process acquired a beige TI99 in working condition. Like I did with my Apple IIe, atari 130xe and C128, I would like to acqire a few modern devices to make using these computer more efficient.

I know about the nanoPEB, the CF7+ And the side 32k expansion that ArcadeShopper advertise, but none of them seems to be available. I'm still looking for a full size PEB but they're rare in my neck of the wood and most who are selling them charge sometime more than the PEB for shipping.

Since I want to code in assembly and in XB I will need that 32k exp and also something to save to.

Anybody knows of another source or group to buy those expansions?

  6. Hi,

Since I can't list it again on eBay due to the fact that the two previous time the buyers either cancelled or refused to pay and I've thus reached my 60 days limit on the amount I can sell, I post it here for trade for the system I was planing to buy with the funds that the sale of the XBOne would have fetch. The XBox was barely used since I also had a PS4 and Wii U. I think I've watched about a dozen movies on it...

In all cases I'll pay for the shipping both way and will even throw in a 2Tb external USB HDD as a bonus. I ship to Canada and the USA.

I'm looking for the following system in order of preference. They must be in good working order and I don't really care if it's pristine or not in appearance as long as its not broken or missing parts and comes with all wires and PSU to hook them up:

    • TI99/4A (any version will do) with optional but desired PEB (The PEB can be empty)I got a TI99/4A elsewhere
    • PEB for TI99/4A (can be empty, I'll hunt down the cards and FDD if needs be but having a FDD + controller would be nice!) or any modern day alternative with ram+serial/usb+CF/SD floppy/hdd emulator
    • TI99/4A Sidecar FDD controller and drive + TI tape recorder
    • Atari 1040STF(m)/STE with (optional) mouse
    • Amiga 500 with ram expansion
    • Amiga 1000 ram expansion (sidecar)
Again, those machine/parts don't need to be perfect but they do need to be complete, working and not broken. I don't really care about scratches or ding. I'm not a museum, I intend to use those thing

    Thank you for watching.

  7. I don't have a big collection and I'm not intending to have one. I don't collect software be it disk or carts instead I've got my hand on the ToSec archives for the systems that I own and use floppy emulator to access them. You can see the system that I own presently in my signature and my end game is only missing three systems, the TI99/4A, Atari ST and the TRS80 Coco (2 or 3), after that I'm done as I'll have every system that I used in the past.

I may replace two of the system that I own though. I would like to replace the A1000 by an A500 since it was better supported and it's easier to find parts for it, and the Apple IIe Platinum which I would like to replace by a IIGS for the more advanced capabilities.

My interest in those system is coding mostly. I'm getting too old for playing games but I like programming stuff. So all in all I don't need that much space. The 8 bits machine are hooked up to the 1702 and 19" LCD on one desk, the 16bits machine will be connected to a 19" LCD as I'm about to retire the Amiga 1080 after about 30 years of service and I don't have the ST yet, on another desk. I have one PC in that room that I use for file transfer that also share the 8bit 19" LCD screen. No big game boxes or cart collection, no gadget or plush toys or promotional items, only usable systems. And the whole thing fit inside an 8x8 area of my finished basement or about half of my electronics lab which is about 14' x 8'.

And when I lose interest or get to old, I'll put them on eBay or in the marketplace here. It's an hobby not an existential need. ;)

  8. Windows 95 includes MS-DOS v7 and is installed at the same time as Windows. Windows 95 is a 32 bit system but at minimum the 16-bit MS-DOS component serves as a boot loader. The MS-DOS component also provides DOS compatibilty. Windows NT is completely different. [Windows 3.1 is a 16-bit add-on to MS-DOS, Windows NT 3.1 is a 32 bit operating system completely independent of ms-dos with the new ntfs file system]

MS-DOS was not a requirement of Windows 95 since it included a version of it. It was still needed to run Windows 95.

The dos that came with Windows 95 was ms-dos v7.

[Was there a different version of Windows 95?]

Yes there were a few releases of it.

  9. Here are my favorite OSes :

    Non PC:

    • GEM OS : It was fonctionnal and out of my way and for what I was doing with my 520STfm it was quite sufficient.
    • AMIGA OS : It was quite powerful with its multitasking but I found the workbench less user friendly than the GEM desktop. And beside, I never ever used the multitasking capability of the machine.
    • Atari Dos 2.5 : Nice menu driven interface compared to the C64 esotheric commands.

    PC :

    • MS DOS 6 : It was he Apex of MS DOS
    • OS/2 Warp : I even was a member of the Montreal OS/2 fan club :-). I liked that it came with Rexx which I knew from my Amiga days (Arexx).
    • Windows 98SE : It replaced my OS/2 Warp machine and was the best 9x OS.
    • Windows 7 : Last of the classic windows shell and last to offer Windows Media Center which I loved to use with MediaBrowser 2.x

  10. I think it's probably pricing. Apple II stuff is going through the roof. It may not be worth it for somebody to sell a computer that's worth $50, but when it's $400 or more (as a lot of Apple II's now go for), that's different. Same with peripherals and anything else. Even a lot of Apple II cards now go for over $100. People realize they have this stuff lying around and now it's worth something.

This is especially true for the z80 CP/M board... I wonder if CP/M is making a comeback or not :-)

  11. Value Village is an international chain; they can be found across Canada -- I have personally shopped at Value Village stores in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia (I travel a lot). Goodwill is also located across Canada (albeit in fewer locations than Value Village). There is also Salvation Army (often located in small towns), Bibles for Missions (only in some provinces), and various small, independent/church-run places.

What Canada lacks, as far as I am aware, is significant online auction sales by thrift shops -- at least I have never seen any. All that I am aware of is the in-store auctions, and only a small handful of places have those.

If I search for Goodwill store in Montreal, for example, I get links to Value Village. Both stores are partner under the Renaissance org. https://www.renaissancequebec.ca/en

  12. ShopGoodwill is not a thing in Canada

No Goodwill, but we do have Value Village in Montreal which cater to the same market segment.

The videogame section is pretty bare except for the sport titles. On the other hand, the music CD section is good in most of them and the more you buy the less they charge per items. I don't buy electronics there though. Looking at the state of some of the stuff that is available, I don't want to bring roaches or bed bugs into my house.
