  1. With my hands the way they are I dont mind auto play games at this point in time. I'm looking for a football game where I can call the plays and just be a coach. I'd appreciate any recommendations....not just football.

There are plenty of soccer games like that, where you manage the team and watch the match being played, but I don't know of any american footbal games like that...

  2. I saw a PS 2 keyboard (in box) at a thrift shop once. It was expressly advertised for use in MMO games like Everquest or Final Fantasy XI.

I have heard of the PS 2 Linux kit, but I have never actually seen one. From what I have read online, it was very limited (e.g. no access to the specialized graphic hardware).

Same as the PS 3 version, no direct access to hardware, but i know people who used both the PS2 and PS3 linux kit. The PS2 with the HDD/Network interface was cheaper than a PC at the time so poor students could chose this as an option to connect to the university servers.

Of course there is also the Dreamcast which ran Windows CE and was often used as an ethernet sniffer/hacking/penetration plateform by hackers and net admins.

  3. I've downloaded the atr from the MAE website (version 1.1) and transfered it to a real floppy with my old SIO2PC serial interface. Now, I haven't touch an Atari in years so don't laugh at me please.

My silly question is how do I load and run the thing? The floppy isn't bootable and if I try to load it from my dos 2.5 menu the computer just hang and needs a reset. I've tried both my 800xl and 130xe.

I know there's a newer 1.3 version on the site but it isn't an atr format.

  4. Back in the day when the ST was my main computer for college work, BBSs and what have you, I had a HDD. When I've come to revisit this recently I gravitated initially towards an Ultrasatan. I'd have loved that back in the day, but now, you're reminded just how clunky HDD support and GEM is (I used Neodesk back in the day to ease that a little), and just how much better the Amiga does it. I ended up selling the Ultrasatan and am now running a Gotek with HxC firmware and, for nostalgia's sake, which is all the ST is now really, it's perfect as it runs most things without the ball ache.

You can also bodge it in there without too much butchery to the casework if you're that way inclined.

Admittedly the way I've done it means you have to take the lid off to get to the USB drive. But I very rarely update it now so it's not a big issue.

A torhoidal transfo in a computer?? Nice!

    Is that a recent replacement?

  5. The Bally Arcade/Astrocade was enthusiastically programmed in Basic by many through the numeric keypad. I think there was a keyboard at some point available, or at least planned.

Also, I believe the Amiga computer was originally planned as a game machine. It was also eventually used in some coin-ops too, I think.

I would also say that the Commodore 64 was sold as a "computer", but was mostly used as a game machine; same for the Sinclair computers, and several others. At the time, there was a lot of hype about computers making game machines obsolete, but that's not what happened.

Well... Since both the xbox and ps4 are pretty much consolized PC, I believe it did became true. Even the Dreamcast ran a version of Windows...

  6. Yeah, my cousin and I actually bought Mad magazine (at the same bookstands :D) too. I "think" that after some time there was even a Dutch edition....but not sure....we loved all the craziness.....and I knew Spy Vs. Spy from that magazine but.....I guess you needed to read the manual a bit with that game and uhhhh..welll uhhh, they forgot to pack the manual with my copy I guess.....

Yeah, I almost never get the manuals for any of my games too :-)

In fact, the only 8bits game i ever bought were Ultima III and the SSI AD&D gold boxes because you needed the code wheel to play them.

  7. Not to push the button ... but if I read your post in the (locked) thread correct, I understand that Steve did respond (instantly?) but that it was sent to an address you did not expect him to respond to....

Not quite. The receipt for the transaction was sent to the old email, but he never answered the email I sent him to confirmed that everything was ok. But I agree that I've overreacted and I did admit I was wrong and if it can help, I'll even do it again right now!

Being human, I do make mistake. But I recognise when I do and try to not do it again.

  8. He shipped my product yesterday. I'm sorry for having doubted the guy and will do business again with him now that I know that the lack of communications is modus operandi for him. It's just that in this day and age of instant gratification, the simple act of not being quick on the reply button tends to rise the level of someone anxiety, especially when it involves $$$.

  9. Mine is in really great condition electronicaly, but the case has some scratches and a "C" designation made with a marker. I,ll try the magic eraser or backing soda method next as neither alcohol or windex worked on it. I'm not a big fan of retrobrighting, especially since winter is coming where i live and i don't get that much sun anymore.

But this is a work machine as I intend to code and experiment on it, just like i intend to do with my 800xl, 130xe and c128. So they're not museum pieces. In the end, I may try to find a matching color and spay paint the case (after a bit of sandind/filling on the scratches).

I've taken it apart yesterday for a good cleaning, it was dusty but in great shape. I've open the PSU and none of the caps were leaking or bulging and the voltage was within spec, but I do have a replacement on the way nonetheless. The keyboard was surprisingly clean needing only a bit of air to blow out the dust. The disc controler, mouse interface and ram/80col/language card where also cleaned and reseated. BTW does any db9 type mouse works with the IIe or does it have to be a specific model?

Today will be spen't transfering dsk images from the Apple Tosec archive to actual floppy via AdtPro, so I can start learning 6502 Assembler again. I've hooked up a video switchbox so I can switch between the green mono display that I'll be using for coding and the amiga 1084 that I'll use for games and running my homebrews. The Ataris and C128 benefit from a similar setup with a 19" LCD via an svideo upconverter and the same 1084 via a switchbox. My amiga 1000 use the 1084 nativelly of course.
