  1. Sound card, CPU accelerator, Apple composite color monitor (I prefer this to digital or VGA), ram upgrade & clock. With the Floppy Emu, I don't think you need a CFFA3000 since it basically does the same thing, but a bit slower I think. It also works with Mac's. Of course it doesn't hurt to have both, but most likely you will only use the CFFA3000 most of the time.

Would an amiga 1084 do as a composite monitor?

  2. You can use a standard composite cable to hook it up to a modern LCD (Or any display, vintage or otherwise, with a composite input) in most cases. Some people have had trouble getting signal locks, but I've never had an issue in plugging any of my Apple II's into any of my modern (or vintage) displays.

You should also get on the CFFA3000 list.

    I registered today for it

  3. Hi,

I have an old, well they're all old now anyway  , Apple IIe platinum that I want to "modernize" a bit. I have a Floppy Emu Deluxe on order and the machine came with a green monochrome monitor and a single floppy drive.

I was wondering if there are any other popular upgrades that I could fit into the machine. I'm already planning a rebuild/replacement of the PSU and a good recap job as well. Maybe something to hook it up to a modern LCD would be nice since that old green monitor has seen better days (it was a school surplus machine that I bought in 2009).

  4. Anyone care to talk about what they plan on doing with their CB boards when they get them?

I like the look of AltiumDesigner and how it incorporates schematic and code in one tool, essentially.

Some of my plans include getting up to speed on a modern language and doing experiments in real-time fractals. And it'd be cool to make an ornery out of electronic parts. Among other things exploring periodic patterns.

    Rule the world?

  5. Not sure if I mentioned it before... But in case I did not:

Steven Tucker and his Atarimax are a bright star in the a8 scene.

Oh wait... I already posted this in the plethora of topics about this same topic ever and ever again. And everytime it turns out that the fuzz was about nothing.

Although I can understand the worries, I find it a bloody shame that a new forum member not first uses the search facility of this forum, writes a topic which is not good advertisement for Atarimax and where it (as in most of all other cases) turns out that it was not Tucker's fault.

So I can not repeat this enough... Tucker and Atarimax are amazing and I would trust him forever. Great, great guy.

And if there might be any future people with doubts or worries who actually did use the search feature and find this topic... For those people I would say: Read my lips: Tucker and Atarimax are awesome!

Actually I did search (via google) and read one of the thread. But you see, situations evolve and business do go out without notice, hence why I ask if it was STILL in business and explained my situation. I admited my responsibility in this.

At this point what more can I do? Send him a dozen roses and a box of chocolate?

You know that the easy solution would be to just upgrade his shopping cart to something a bit more modern and/or accept Paypal.

  6. So this means he does acknowledge orders by email after all? But he still gets a forum post regarding "the legal situation". LOL.

Mmmm, I admited my part in this imbroglio so I'll sleep well at night. Especially since this thread was never meant as an attack against the guy.

Since last week, I've spent over $1k on different retro eShop and eBay. This was the only one I had a "problem" with. It was also the only one that didn't use a modern shopping cart solution without Paypal, hence why I was a bit anxious.

Again, if I cause any problem to the guy it was not intentional. Also of note, english isn't my main language and text on a forum doesn't carry emotion or intention very well. But I don't have any control over your emotions concerning this thread and I can only say again: I never intended for this thread to become a flamewar and have nothing against the guy.

  7. Well, well, well I can relax now.

For some reason, the email got to my old gmail adress instead of my outlook one... I haven't use that one for quite a while but since that was the one I used when I bought my sio2rs232 years ago I've decided to go check it just in case and yep the email was there...

I guess I'm a walkin' talkin' case of foot in mouth disease...

  8. Check your SPAM filter. I've expereineced the slow response to follow up queries, but I've always gotten an Automated e-mail when I originally placed an order. (And if the initial e-mails are in SPAM, any responses may be too.)

Having said that, I have personally decided not to order from Atarimax anymore. I prefer to support people that are more responsive.

First thing I checked... But alas, no email.

  9. AMenard,

Please don't feel like you have initiated anything negative. As the last couple of responses to this thread show, this has become a perennial topic. Your question was well intentioned and was received in that fashion by the vast majority of those here. I would like to add my assurances that Atarimax will come through with your order in due time. I am sure he appreciates your patience.

    Thank you.

  10. The approach to e-commerce on some of these Atari sites (especially in the US) seems pretty arcane and in the past when discussing the matter on the forum we've asked "Why doesn't X update his site?" or "Why doesn't Y get help updating his site?" or "Why doesn't Z do this or that... it takes five minutes to set up an auto-responder?". And as I type this, Paul wrote: "Just a little automated script would not be above Steve's abilities". Totally true, but who knows why they do the things the way they do them, or even why they continue to bother supporting this ancient platform in the first place?

I suppose what I'm saying is that bemoaning the comms situation at AtariMax isn't going to accomplish anything at all unless someone actually gets in touch with Steve and either offers him help or gets some definitive answers about the way things work. Beyond that it probably is a case of take it or leave it. Even raising some goal-oriented points on the AtariMax forum instead of on this one might be a step in the right direction.

My goal wasn't to start a flame war against Atarimax, but to understand why I haven't received any hint of what was happening about my order.

I've dealt with many "ancient platform" web store and never had anything but good communication with them, until now.

I did buy an sio2rs232 with the APE program years ago and that transaction went normally so I was surprised by this one.

My intention by posting here was that maybe someone, maybe he has friends here, could reach him via a personal email and bring him up to speed about the fact that his web store isn't issuing a confirmation email/receipt after charging the customer CC.

Maybe something is wrong with his shipping cart/CC processing service, I don't know!

This purchase is for the usb version which I need now that none of my PCs have RS232 ports anymore. It's an $87Cdn purchase, not the end of the world but it's still money I would prefer not to lose or worry over.

  11. Before contacting your attorney regarding the legal situation, have a look at a recent thread on the same forum discussing the exact same issue:

    https://www.atarimax.com/flashcart/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=2121

So yes: it's normal for the store, and the forum is quite quiet, so you may have to wait for a few days (i.e. more than two) for a reply to a post. However, the proprietor is a trusted seller and supporter of the Atari scene, and you may therefore rest assured that merchandise ordered will eventually materialise.

    Oh, ok.

It's just that most web store sends you at least an automated transaction confirmation when they charge your card.

Since I've not received anything I was getting a bit anxious.

In any case, since he's someone well known around here I'll just relax a bit and wait for the postman :-)

  12. Hi,

I'm starting to get a bit anxious concerning a transaction I did with them last Monday.

I never received any confirmation email or shipping info and yet my credit card has been charged.

I've sent two email to them and also posted two message on their forum and still I've not heard from them.

Is this normal for this online store?

  13. I had to learn Cobol as well, at the time it was already considered an archaic language, but the justification was "hey, it's still widely used in business systems". Never once worked on Cobol in the real world. But they also told me I'd never encounter Pascal and I did so...

Same here... I've been traumatized for life the first time I saw I had 35890 errors in my listing because I forgot a "." at the end of a line :D

But my first job was in Delphi (Object Pascal). I then moved to .Net (vb & c#) and plain old C.

  15. Pascal, or to be more precise, Turbo Pascal was used in commercial product dev. especially communication software for some reason. But mostly it was used in education because it's a strongly typed and structured language. It was the one of the languages that I learned in college, that and Cobol (yeah, I'm old...). When I got to university it was replaced by Ada.
