  1. You know what?

Too Bad. That's how everything in life is. Cars die. Pets die. Trees fall down. Televisions die. Stereos stop working. Shit happens.

You're not entitled to unending perpetual access to cheap consumer products from 30-40 years ago. That's why these things typically only carry a 90 day warranty on them.

Stereos can be easilly repaired, cars too. plenty of aftermarket for parts. Pets and trees are living things, not consumer goods. Old computers/consoles can also be repaired and keep running, this is why site like this exist. Media can also be transfered unto a newer medium.

And, yes, having bought the damn thing I'm sure well entitled to enjoy it perpetually as long as I can keep it running even if I have to fix it and replace every part, including medium, to keep it running. No amount of playing devil's advocate will change that fact.

  2. I don't really collect. I buy, use and trade/sell when I get tired. I buy again when I feel like playing again later on. I generally make a small profit over all and donate what doesn't sell instead of throwing it away.

That being said, I'm a bit over the retro computing phase with a caveat. I mean, that I'm over the already built 8/16/32 bits computer from the well known brand. Instead I would like to build my own 8 and 16 bits computers, hence why I'm enrolling in a couple of electronics classes to refresh what I already know and learn what I'm missing.

I recently bought a NES, SNES and Genesis and a couple of games. Also got a PS2, PS3 and a PS4, mostly for the RPGs and to watch BluRay. The Wii U, again I got for a couple of games that I want to play. But beside the 8/16bits and the PS4, I won't be keeping them for more than a year.

I'm single with a good paying job. I don't have any real family to take care off beside my mother who lives with me (bi-generational house). I don't drink, smoke or do drugs. I don't like travelling all that much and I don't value cars as anything more than a convenient way to go from one place to the other. My mortgage and taxes are low since I'm about 50km from the major city and live in a small town. I have "hobby" money available to spend once the bills are paid.

  3. I wonder if loose means CD only or just no outer box?

With most system, loose is game only/disc in generic case, no case, no booklet.

The missing slip case will bring its value down somewhat but It should fetch around ¾ of a CiB since it's a rare disc to own, IMHO.

  4. You guys saw the video of The 8-Bit Guy restoring an impossibly ratty VIC-20, right? It was missing keys and covered with an unidentified oily substance. He did manage to resurrect it, but it must have taken many hours of work. I think he had to swap out a few chips, too, since some of them were destroyed.

That Vic20 was used in an industrial setting and was covered in old machine oil and grease.

  5. Since we are talking about switchers, anyone know a thing about SCART ones? Once my son leaves for school, I may be able have my retro stuff out at once.

Scart switches are expensive as hell, at least on ebay... You'll probably get better luck if you can find a friend willing to ship you one from europe.
