everything before leading up to V'ger was great!

You should see the Director's Edition of "ST:TMP", if you haven't already. It's much tighter and more focused than the original.

It's too bad that Kirk didn't pack the ancient Commodore computer from his antiques collection (in "Star Trek II"). Maybe he could have hacked into V'Ger with that.

V'Ger is older than that Commodore computer, I doubt that his PET could be useful for hacking V'Ger
