Well Larry, I did, and I just did again.. the last reference to that name on here is 2014.. and I found no user by that name. So unless someone has better information the best I can find is a 4 year old reference to a email address and a three year old reference to a telephone number. James

This is the most recent Rana 1000 thread, so its the one I decided to resurrect to help with my problem. Mr. Martian seems to be the most knowledgeable about the drive but he no longer seems to be active on the forum. Larry if your reading this and can help that would be awesome. I have a new to me Rana 1000 - I have not taken it apart yet.. it works for the most part.. the speed is a little off though 295rpm.. Would like to adjust it.. but no service manual. 1. Is that manual that was made years ago still available anywhere? or did it go public? 2. Would like to look into the upgraded ROM that was done in the other thread. Larry? So if anyone can help.. I am open to help here. James edit - took it apart - I have the 8031 with the 8mhz crystal. U12 the p2732a-3 is the rom in mine, but its not an eprom? I would love to put the final rom that MrMartian did.. I have a burner, but I would need the eprom. I think you ran that didnt you Larry.. and it worked with all? Mine works right now.. np - I think I am getting all density.. I have formated DD and SD .. not sure about ED. I gain what by burning a new image?? just bug fixes and Ultra Skew? US DOUB? what?

In post 1 Bryan says the jumper or wire positions are different with Rev. D .. but does never show the positions for the 400 (that I have found?) Thanks for the help. James

In regards to disk reads and writes. Does Sparta allow you to read a disk on a DD drive even if I would not be able to write to it?? I have lots of different drives for my Ataris - I have the Xf551 which would allow me to make a 720K disk.. which I can read and write in Sparta np. But I have also been able to READ - I guess the disk header?? on that disk in a Rana 1000 and an Indus GT which are both supposed to be 90k/130k/180k The interesting or scary parts is that I was able to write to a 360K disk on the Rana.. Sparta format will not allow me to format the Rana to 360K but it allows reads and writes? I am assuming this will be incorrect and corrupt?? James

I will ask the question here since this is the most recent active Indus GT thread.. I have 2 drives.. 1 is 1.2 rom and the other is 1.1 .. I have one drive working fine.. the other will not read.. everything "works" it just wont read. Anyone reading this good at troubleshooting Indus drives? I have swapped systematically just about every component from the working drive to the non-working drive.. and I have not been able to get it up and running. I am open to ideas. James

One thing this thread shows is there still is a lot of 800 original units out there. Awesome to see.. it is such a classic unit over the 800xl. James

To tag on to that thought Michael, I am reading this with much interest, as I think this might be something I would really enjoy. (Your MB project) But it has been a goal of mine to have a modern i5 or whatever in a GOOD LOOKING atari type case as well.. So that I could do my modern tasks with a awesome retro feel. At the moment I am trying to stuff mini ITX etc into a 800xl or 800 case (just in the planning stages) but I dont want to hack it up at all. If in another thread etc.. a project to make a 1450xld looking case.. but have a modern keyboard in it, so we could mount a itx based Q87 or something MB would be amazing. XEGS is about the best idea for this.. but its just not retro enough for me.. I would like an AIO case that just looks 1984. I would love to have someone LOOK at my space and say?? just Atari computers?? muhahaha

I think I have found the issue.. although its not where I thought it would be. It seems to be in the prompt command I issued in my autoexec.bat prompt $l$p> This is what is causing the indus GT to hang and continue to spin forever, unless I access the drive from a real drive in the sio chain. If I access the drive from an SIO2pc drive.. I get it hung up. Now I know this is so odd, it does not effect a significant group.. but interesting none the less. guess this should move this over to the spartados X thread. James

In my continuing effort to figure this out.. I found out.. its not QUITE RespeQT... but it might be pclink. I tried this using RespeQT.. but not sparta 4.48 that is on my U1mb.. but I used my spart 4.19 cartridge.. NO problem. Then I loaded Sparta 4.48 again.. but no drivers, no autoexec or config.. no problem. But when I load Sparta 4.48 with the pclink driver.. I get the problem.. so maybe kinda related.. but its the pclink driver issue?? James

Bryan if you can.. are there any details on what needs to be done on the 400 to draw the audio into the pinout? I think its only a couple of wires.. in an old thread was there not someone who posted up his 400 install? James

OK, so got that MrFish.. thanks = any chance a 27c256 would work? I have a few extra of those from Atari ST TOS burning?? I know the rom is only 64K Now I guess if I want to do this.. I end up using my spartdos x cart.. not that I need it.. I have sparta x built into both my U1mb and Incognito... but can I use this on a MAXFLASH cart?? maybe this gives me an excuse to buy some? I have a sparta dos cart with the passthrou.. I think that was the 4.19.. so your saying that with the right eprom ( I have a burner as well) I could just swap out the prom? What number of prom would I need please. James
