  I took my trusty Starrett metric tape measure over to my wife's friends' house to help the 80 year old re-do his shed to pass the homeowner's association rules. I used it to measure the rotting trim boards so I could cut new ones. I pointed out to him "it's much easier not dealing with fractions on an SAE tape." He replied "this shed was built from inches and feet; that metric stuff is gonna make the boards not fit." 4cm by 9cm is the real size of a 2x4.
