Hi everyone,
I just finished modding my Odyssey 2 and I thought some of you may be interested in the results.
I'd first like to thank the following AA members:
- thevnaguy (Willie) for his Youtube video (ArcadeUSA channel), where I learned about the controller mod
- metarog for providing me with the necessary additional Odyssey 2 wires/connectors
- grips03 for giving me advice for the technique, and Dremel-bit used, for cutting the connector holes

I've been wanting to add composite connectors to my O2 for quite a while, but can never find the time. Which Dremel bit did you use? Do you have any other tips for someone wanting to mod their O2? -
And I actually didn't know she started doing actual logos on them, though. This Odyssey 2 one looks great--I may need to grab one.

Yeah, I'm tempted to get this even though I don't really a dust cover.

Thanks for telling me about the collisions not working. I took some time and made the collisions between the cat and rat work again. Let me know what you think.
Collisions work now, so does the action button to restart the level. Thanks again for making this, I enjoy logic/puzzle games.

In 2.1 the rat and cat collision doesn't work (at least not all the time), the mouse and cat go right through each other. This collision detection worked in 1.7. I'm playing this on a real Odyssey 2 if that matters.
It's possible for the rat to be stuck in an infinite loop, but maybe this is only because the collission detection isn't working? I think you mentioned in your blog an option to press the action button or another button to restart the maze. If that gets implemented that would solve this problem.
It's a fun little logic game as is, but if you wanted to add some competitiveness/replayability you could either add a timer that counts up to see how long it takes you to solve a maze or a timer that counts down (for example you must get the cheese in 30 seconds or you lose). With the second option you could have different difficulty levels (like level 1 gives you 30 seconds/maze, 2 = 45 seconds, etc.). Lastly, instead of picking the mazes having them play in a random order one after another would help to keep the game moving and keep you guessing a little more on how to solve the next maze (especially coupled with a timer). Then it'd be a competition to see if you could solve all the mazes in a row. Maybe save the toughest maze to always/only be the last maze like a boss ending.
Of course I've never programmed an O2 game, so I have no idea how difficult it'd be to implement any of those ideas. As I said before it's fun as is, but after beating all the levels once there's not much incentive to come back and do it again (although in my old age if I wait a couple months they'll probably all seem new to me again

Looks like a fun concept, I'll have to find some time to try out your ROM. I had never heard of Chu Chu Rocket, I'm going to have to try that game too. Seems similar to the play mechanics of Ricochet Robots, which is a fun board game.

That's great, it certainly looks Odysseyish. I just might have to break down and pay for a Netflix subscription yet... I've heard good things about Stranger Things anyway.

Finally got a chance to try this today. It's well suited to the Odyssey's impressive capabilities. Having a working score for bragging rights would be really nice, so I hope you at least add that. Do you plan on adding the items from the Game Boy version? The action area doesn't take up the whole screen vertically and you can only move horizontally in the right third of the screen, are those restrictions by design?

Can anyone get the Linux version of this to work? Trying to click on the cc3editor executable doesn't do anything.
I'm using CentOS 7.3 64 bit. I ran it from the command line like this:
./cc3editor
and I got this error:
./cc3editor: error while loading shared libraries: libpng12.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
So I then installed the 32 bit version of libpng12 with this command:
yum install libpng12.i686
and now cc3editor runs without error for me (both just double clicking it and running it from the command line).

There are a few multiplayer games I keep replaying. "Showdown in 2100 AD" is my favorite. The ricochets always get my kids laughing and my brother and I can get quite competitive on it.
Honorable mention to Blockout/Breakdown and Monkeyshines. -
I just had two of grips03 newer "Norcomp db9 shell" adapters delivered today. As you can tell from the pic they look nice and he delivered them quickly.

My son that carved the Pac Man pumpkin is pretty nerdy in his own right, but without authentic blockiness he hasn't learned to take it to the next level yet.
I did have one trick-or-treator tonight give my pumpkin a positive comment, he said he liked the "lego pumpkin guy". I guess I'll just have to resign myself to the fact that my beloved Odyssey 2 is no longer the most popular home video game system, so lego props will have to do.

You can get a USB to serial adapter for $20. Windows will treat it the same as the old days.
True. I occasionally need a serial port for connecting to network equipment at work. Since no laptops have serial ports anymore I have to use the USB to serial adapters. I've always just used cheap no name adapters and they've worked fine in Windows and Linux. On Amazon there are several highly rated adapters for < $10.

I have a Intellicart (#037 by Chad Schells) for sale. I wrote a check (ha, is that old school) on 14AUG2000 for $105 for this, but I've never used it (life keeps getting in the way, and what little time I do have to retro game is spent on my beloved Odyssey 2). Included is the cartridge and floppy disk, I don't remember if it came with anything else. Asking $150 OBO.
