1. I don't know of any other computer but the Atari that screeched. 2. You can turn down the volume on the TV. 3. The noise was optional. Some programs turned it off automatically, and in BASIC there was a POKE to turn it off.

Have you got kids? THAT'S screeching. The sound of cassettes sounds to me like the sound of a summer breeze through the trees in comparison.

I'm fine with the screeching (actually I looped Skool Daze for 15 minutes) but I'm asking whether you could turn it down/off because many people seem to hate it. C64 and the Speccy screeched.
