  1. Trying it on my phone and the first time, after inserting the cartridge, it didn't insert, and the second time, it inserted, but the game won't start. Does it support controllers, I wonder. Edit: it seems like it depends on the rom. Like if I try to insert Juno First then it won't insert, and if I try Joust then it just won't start. Tried the zipped Centipede file and it won't work. Says no valid rom files found.
  2. So I got Visual Batari Basic from the Tinkernut website yesterday and whenever I try to open a file, it gives me this error. (See draft_5) When I try to run a tutorial code, it says the code "is not the latest version" and asks if I want to compile. And every time I try compiling, it says "path is not legal". What could be done to fix these? Thanks
  3. I seriously wish there was a Pac n Pal port that was free.
  4. So I consistently read that the Atari 2600 can show 2 player sprites on the same horizontal scanline. If that's the case, why do the ghosts flicker constantly? If none of the 4 ghosts share the same horizontal scanline, shouldn't they all be able to be shown on the screen at the same time, like in say, Bermuda Triangle, where they have an enemy on each horizontal lane that do not flicker?
  5. Trying to use VisualbB and everything I do results in an error. Opening a file, compiling a tutorial file, etc. Can't even begin to code.

I can't compile or open a file. There's something wrong with Visual BB and I don't know how to fix it.

  6. Oh I found out you're supposed to use the newly mapped button for the settings. Still the inverted problem isn't solved though.
  7. Just tried this game out and how do you save the level editing? Pressing Enter increases the nodes and pressing Esc unsaves your level editing. The original site for the full documentation is no longer up and while I was able to remap the controls on the menu screen, changing the controls from normal to reversed does nothing. It seems to save if I press the editing keys outside of the edit screen but I still start the level with the same controls regardless of whether I had set it to normal or reversed. Edit: Also after I finished my configuration of controls I could no longer go to the options screen anymore

  9. Be sure your joystick is firmly plugged into the LEFT controller port of your ATARI Video Computer System

I've always heard the one on the RIGHT does not have to be so firmly plugged in...LOL

  10. If you're building one I like 4 a bit more than 1.
  11. What do you mean classics? As Iin games you enjoy the most, the first games you played, or the most popular ones? Cause they would have different answers and I expected the second but it seems people are listing favourites
  12. My personal favourites are Millipede (be sure to learn what each enemy does and how they behave to enjoy the game fully) Missile Command Beamrider (though I much prefer the Atari 800 version) Omicron (homebrew) Demon Attack Robot Tank Tunnel Runner (kinda rare) Klax (PAL but I heard there exists an NTSC prototype, though you might want to check out a video of one of the other versions, say the Arcade version, to understand the perspective, and note you could hold multiple blocks on your paddle) Medieval Mayhem Kaboom Juno First Submarine Commander Wizard of Wor Other recommends that don't make my top list include the famous Yars' Revenge, Pitfall 1 and 2, Space Invaders, River Raid (Plus). You really only need paddles and a joystick/game pad to enjoy most games. The keyboard controller isn't required for most and the driving controllers are used in even less. Also btw I'm 21 too
  13. Should Marble Madness, Paperboy, and Klax be considered Atari games? Like it's not featured in any modern Atari compilations.

I consider them Atari games, much in the same way I consider the 2600 versions of Vanguard, Berzerk, Ms. Pac-Man, etc., "Atari" games. There is nothing left of the original Atari anymore, so we can define it however we like.

In the 70's **ALL** vidyahgamez were called "Atari". Even my Apple II was known as Atari by my parents.

      Tangentg

Yeah but you get games from before the split, I'm assuming, like Missile Command, Tempest and Yars' Revenge, which are featured in modern Atari compilations. I take it it's the case cause Infogrames bought the Atari that had the rights to these but not the Atari that has the rights to Klax and Paperboy, etc.

  14. When my peers tell me they don't like Atari games I think it's cause they never tried it. i fail to see how anyone could have played one of the better games and not like it.

When I looked up "video games" on the internet for the first time, it's all NES and Atari 2600 stuff. I'm surprised so many people don't like the Atari as a result but yeah it has its benefits. I asked my friends for their favourite genres and it seems like most of them like Western RPGs, therefore even the best Atari 2600 games don't seem to suit them well.

You could always pick up a copy of Dungeon from the AtariAge store and totally blow their minds with what the 2600 is capable of. It pretty amazing for an RPG on the 2600 and probably my personal favorite homebrew game. =)

  15. the problem when i go into retro gaming circles is no one is onterested in Atari. Atari 2600 is my favourite among retro consoles but retro gaming circles often obly start at NES and discuss stuff as new as a

I was born in 2001 and have a 2600, NES, Genesis, Game Gear, SNES, PS1, Game Boy Color, Dreamcast, PS2, GameCube, Wii, DSi, and 3DS. Which ones do I play the most? The Atari and Sega consoles. While the classic Nintendo consoles are great, I feel these other great consoles deserve more love.

Often I can't tell if people are making fun of me because they think it's impossible that I would be born after that time and still play on the 2600 most. I don't have an actual 2600 though. Wish I did. Closest I have is the Flashback 7.

  16. I want to create an Atari Discord server but i dont know if people would be interested.

  17. Why are ROM uploads called "dumps"? Sounds as if you don't want it, like you dump some rubbish on the side of the road.

      I don't know what's "copying -to- a file"

    2. jaybird3rd

      jaybird3rd

Would you prefer "copying bytes from the ROM and concatenating them in order to the end of a file"? Seems like "copying to a file" conveys the same idea and is a whole lot easier to say.

    3. Tangentg

      Tangentg

I'd just prefer "rom". Like you could have just "ROM: download" and "uploading the ROM" rather than "ROM dump: download" and "dumping the ROM" I guess

  18. Is Frenzy (7800) only available as a cartridge not a free download? Also, I see sound in KC Munchkin 7800 but mine doesn't have sound. Looking through a thread trying to find a latest version.

  19. A friend of mine suggested me to ask/search about it online and I haven't been able to find something so specific and there's nothing that I could do about it plus it didn't seem to do my drive actual harm so I decided to ignore it but there's a strange bug with the No Cash GBA emulator. At one point I had downloaded a game (Black Widow) from Tardis remakes. It doesn't share the same directory or a similar name with the No Cash emulator or any of the rom files. Whenever I play a DS game with No Cash GBA (this seems to happen only with games where you make some sort of progress and has new save data being created, which is most DS games to be honest, like Phoenix Wright), the folder where Black Widow is in, all the files disappear. Instead, they are replaced by a number of corrupted files with file names resembling the DS game I played. (e.g. if I just played a Phoenix Wright game, the file name will go like Ph! ix Wr%$? ä#.ght, with ".ght" being treated as the file type). These files are often, if I right-click on them, many Gigabytes worth of size (as big as 15GB or so) and I can't rename, move, or delete these files, and I can't move or delete the folders containing them either (though renaming is fine). However, despite this, it doesn't seem to actually use up as much space on my drive, since my drive only has 30GB in total supposedly, and the entire folder is said to use up 23GB, my USB shouldn't have had enough space to store everything it is holding. Yet it does, and some files have 0KB shown in actuality in their properties. Attempting to delete these corrupted files seems to result in a loss of your saved progress on the original DS games. I ran many scans for viruses and none are picked up, so it might be something else. I've seen lots of people using No Cash GBA having save files mysteriously disappearing, and I think this might have something to do with it. Fragmentation error perhaps?
  20. I have a similar problem but with Pole Position. Never been able to get past the qualifying run.
  21. I'll check Rambrandt out. Thanks for the info. By the way, I saw an undo function "oops" on the C64 version. It's not present in the Atari version, I guess.
  22. So I tried out KoalaPaint (for the Atari 8-bit computers) today, and it seems like the entire picture could only have 4 colours at a given time? (unless you're doing rainbow mode) Cause when I tried to change the colour on the palette thing then the same colour on the picture also changes. Also, i haven't figured out how to make multiple pictures yet (it's probably in the manual but I haven't gotten round to reading it fully yet). Unsure if you could do an extra 4 colours in a second pic and the "copy" it to another picture, creating up to 8 colours, though I doubt it, looking at some Koala art.
  23. For the author of ParaJVE, I'd like to have him know that one of the digits gets outside of the screen in Space War too so there's no way to tell how many bullets Player 2 has. And since using ParaJVE I've gotten picky with Vectrex emulators so unless it can do everything ParaJVE can (the overlays, the flickering, the glowing effect, the afterimage effect, fully customanizable controls), I'm not sure about VIDE. Plus, I don't think I have the best hardware so it'll probably be very slow.
  24. I mentioned how you only see 1 digit for the 2nd player in Space Wars before, and the developer knows that pacman clone doesn't run properly. But I found another bug that was probably missed by the developer: In Star Castle, I realized on the Vectrex, the shields are brighter/thicker after they've been hit once. On the emulator, that doesn't happen, presumably because in the settings, it defines only a set brightness/thickness for all vectors. it's a shame that Space War and Star Castle suffer from these bugs cause those are 2 of my favourite Vectrex games and the emulator is otherwise so cool with the authentic flickering, wobbling, glowing, and afterimage effects.
  25. That's Yars' Return. I'm talking about if there was yet another sequel, and also about how it might/could have been, if the creator wanted to better approximate the original Star Castle in that sequel.
