Not originally an Atari 2600 title but... How about Space Duel? It was originally an arcade game and got ported to the Atari 7800 (great effort from PacManPlus) and Atari 2600 (that version was pretty bad though). Also Windows, by me.

Battlezone and Tunnel Runner, I'd say. I always wished I was more able to dodge the enemy fire and ended up moving my physical self, and the latter used to be a bit scary for me. Still wish the 2600 had scarier ghost games. I imagine they could pull off a cool death scene by having the entire screen black and having a flashing ghost that teleports closer and closer to you as a game over sequence.

I like arcade games, but my favourites all happen to be shooters, at least in the 2600. Good short fun. I'd also like a game I could beat too that has some sort of replay value, but since save points weren't a thing, you had to do those in 1 sitting.

I probably already said this, but I was born in late 1995 and didn't have regular internet access until I was in First Form.
I went to a website for Jimmy Neutron, a TV series I was into back then, and it had games, which turned out to be clones of retro games. This made the first video games I had contact with retro games. As someone who always want to find out the source of something, Atari 2600 and NES games were among the first bunch of games I found online, so I grew up playing 2600 and NES games on the internet. While definitely not as mainstream as the NES for "retro" circles, I think Atari still holds its ground.

Actually I've tried it at both settings and even pressed reset after changing the difficulty. Neither A nor B shows any crosshair. On both the left and right difficulty switches too. Usually B is easy and A is hard by the way.

It's been going on forever but the ball still seems to be only going horizontally... You sure you haven't overlooked something? The ball was basically bouncing against the two walls with nothing in between at the bottom of the screen.
-
Just ran into a "problem" where 1 ball was essentially out of play cause it was bouncing absolutely horizontally across the screen back and forth and it's not posing any threat to any of the warlords.
In theory then all the balls could be "stuck" and everyone would be left at an impasse because there's a maximum number of fireballs.

Wow, great game! While I liked the original 2600 version of Zaxxon, I really liked this version! Why hasn't this been talked about more? I only heard of it today...
Haven't seen the original Zaxxon robot but I suppose that's replaced by the tracking missile? Haven't gotten that far yet.
Also the manual said if the "P1" difficulty is at B then there'd be a crosshair, yet both of the switches are on B and I don't see one... Has that been removed?

They're going to be combined into a single file if this was completed, right?

I can't get it to work on Stella.............. is it just for the Harmony Cart??
It worked on mine...

It'd be cool to get a hack based off of the 3D maze Windows screensaver... Maybe have the rats as the enemies and the final door as the smiley face, and other doors as OpenGL, with the walls being the bricks (though that would take away the colour variety the Atari 2600 is good at).
Perhaps even a more sophisticated one with rocks added that turns the maze upside down (thereby requiring reversed controls)
-
I'm kinda confused as to whether it is you or she who worked on it...
I think the rails was the biggest improvement over the original.
-
Yeees! The 7800 needs a pinball game.
An updated version of Midnight Magic with more colourful stuff, more features, and stuff would be interesting to see, maybe have some more missions and lanes/overhead ball rail things.

Gradient objects are in many games, like in Frankenstein's Monster. Also two prototypes come to mind: Venetian Blinds and Aquaventure.
I thought flashing was iconic, rather than the bars, but Krull comes to mind with the moving bars.

I'm looking to buy 2 sets of paddle controllers and I saw a set being sold at I think 158 US dollars.
-
Yeah I did get the .8 version.

I thought it was pretty good despite what you said about it not resembling pinball
I thought it was pinball-like enough... Though the ball seems to keep passing through the thing at the centre from both directions... I'm probably missing something though. -
Well the thing is, it's a Windows game that's made in the style of an Atari 2600 game so it's not a ROM... I posted the topic before but I haven't gotten much feedback...
Well the topic (where you could find the download links) is here: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/251573-atari-fangames/

Oh another young person here? I'm 21 and I basically grew up with Atari 2600 and NES games online cause they happened to be the first video games I ever found and played online and I stuck with them because I loved them.
I wonder if you'll like Millipede? It's my all-time favourite arcade and Atari 2600 game.
It basically has all elements Centipede has and only adds more, plus there's a sense of progression that you feel as you go through the different bug swarms.
And speaking of Centipede, this is a screenshot of my War of the Bugs remake, which is itself a Centipede clone. I wish I'd get some comments on my games but I haven't really gotten much... I wonder if you'd be interested?

I love playing my 2600 games, but I'm terrible at most of them.
I think that's the point really... They're fast-paced arcade games not meant to last for an hour.
Which brings me to another sin:
I think that many times people who are "good" rely on exploiting the games in ways which they weren't meant to be played, such as setting the trap in Centipede and leaving 1 rock on the screen in Asteroids forever.
I know this doesn't apply to all games but there were many arcade games where expertise is based on exploiting the games.

I actually got into Atari through the Angry Video Game Nerd. I've watched his videos since I was in middle/high school, but about a year ago I became really interested in the ones where he ranted about Atari stuff. I started looking into the 2600 more, mainly by watching reviews from Lord Karnage and MetalJesusRocks, found AtariAge, saw how many people were still into it, and decided to take the plunge and get a system.
For me I discovered Metal Jesus much later. When I looked up videos about the 2600 (I've posted my story above), It was AVGN first, then Lord Karnage and finally Aqualung. The latter two remain to be my favourite retro game reviewers.
