  1. I guess I don't really get much feedback on my games cause people are only interested in actual ROMs?

I have no idea how trustworthy MediaFire is, but it still is true that you would get a lot more feedback if you were developing new games for old systems than making old-looking games for new systems. Try it! Obviously you know the general principles of programming, which tends to be the first obstacle.

I haven't caught a virus from downloading a rom yet.

No it doesn't. I don't do those things that require installation. It doesn't leave anything behind.

  2. Yeah I did get the .8 version.
  3. I thought it was pretty good despite what you said about it not resembling pinball I thought it was pinball-like enough... Though the ball seems to keep passing through the thing at the centre from both directions... I'm probably missing something though.
  4. Well the thing is, it's a Windows game that's made in the style of an Atari 2600 game so it's not a ROM... I posted the topic before but I haven't gotten much feedback... Well the topic (where you could find the download links) is here: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/251573-atari-fangames/
  5. Oh another young person here? I'm 21 and I basically grew up with Atari 2600 and NES games online cause they happened to be the first video games I ever found and played online and I stuck with them because I loved them. I wonder if you'll like Millipede? It's my all-time favourite arcade and Atari 2600 game. It basically has all elements Centipede has and only adds more, plus there's a sense of progression that you feel as you go through the different bug swarms. And speaking of Centipede, this is a screenshot of my War of the Bugs remake, which is itself a Centipede clone. I wish I'd get some comments on my games but I haven't really gotten much... I wonder if you'd be interested?
  6. is there a graphical glitch in Space Invaders (arcade) where the lastbig invader leaves a trail?

    1. Tangentg

      Tangentg

Does it leave a trail like in the one I mentioned anyway though?

Ah yes, that's it! I saw that recently when playing Space Invaders Extreme 2 on the DS. It's quite interesting that they kept that there. Thanks for the pic!

  7. I think that's the point really... They're fast-paced arcade games not meant to last for an hour. Which brings me to another sin: I think that many times people who are "good" rely on exploiting the games in ways which they weren't meant to be played, such as setting the trap in Centipede and leaving 1 rock on the screen in Asteroids forever. I know this doesn't apply to all games but there were many arcade games where expertise is based on exploiting the games.
  8. For me I discovered Metal Jesus much later. When I looked up videos about the 2600 (I've posted my story above), It was AVGN first, then Lord Karnage and finally Aqualung. The latter two remain to be my favourite retro game reviewers.
  9. Mini update: Stars' maximum speeds have been limited to 60.
  10. Guess I just haven't heard of them :/
  11. I see, Keatah... Ah, thanks for the detailed explanation, King_Salamon! It's sad, with your 6-switch But now you made me wanna check out cartridge-frying Pitfall 2!
  12. So I guess it refers to turning the console off and back on again quickly then? I've seen a weird screen effect on an Apple II from someone turning it off and then on again without waiting long enough. I guess that would be similar. So basically it's that first act that was called "fry cartridge", because it makes the game on the cartridge go weird? And then the releasing the Reset button isn't part of cartridge-frying, I take it.
  13. The video's removed... Was it the waterworld AVGN episode? I can't believe it's no longer up... Anyway AVGN is the first internet series I found about Atari when I looked up Atari games on Youtube and he helped promote games I wouldn't have otherwise known about.
  14. I don't know who that is... But what's this about hitting the power switch and getting the weird screen? Since I've only seen the video about the reset button thing, I don't know anything about how to get that weird screen... Wouldn't hitting the power switch cause it to turn on or off completely? Or is it something like turning it off and back on too quickly? Googling "frying the cartridge" didn't get me anything on the origin of the term... I quoted that from Stella and Javatari, where the backspace is used to "fry cartridge". Is that used to refer to something not going right?
  15. I've seen a video that tells you that you could get double shots by holding down the reset button with the power off, then turn on the power and then let go of the reset button, to get double shots in Space Invaders. Now the "fry cartridge" functions in Atari 2600 emulators result in getting double shots too (after you hit reset), but why is it called "fry cartridge"? What does holding down the buttons have to do with frying and the cartridge? Also, isn't Space Invaders the only game where this has a significant effect? (Other games being just unaffected or causing undesired glitches, rather than desired glitches) Thanks.
  16. Bug fixed regarding the white saucers from Level 10 onwards. Same link as before. Edit: another potential (but unlikely to occur) bug regarding multiple UFOs fixed.
  17. Actually, it is exactly the same as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkJ73Uk9vgQ
  18. I've looked at the 7800 version and I didn't really like it, but it's good enough I suppose since I've tried the arcade version, the 2600 version, and the GBA version. I also remade GORF myself that's primarily based off of its Amiga port (with some arcade references). My remake was called Commodore Amiga GORF. I don't enjoy the 2600 version so much because of the lack of vertical movement and I couldn't figure out how to beat the flagship (I shot at the middle many times but it still won't go away for some reason). This is a video of Commodore Amiga GORF beaten done by a friend (it was one of my very first games): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8aIHVhpH23o And my game could be found here (along with some other remakes of mine) if anyone's interested: http://shogikappa.tumblr.com/post/143073417522/vista-game-reuploads
  19. I'd still like comments on my Atari fangames...

I'd try linking a video of your game. I like the concept of multi colored vector graphics.

      Tangentg

Oh thanks. Are you making a video of the game? I also meant my other fangames, namely the Bug War (Centipede) and Little Red Riding Hood ones. I've done videos on them myself, but it'd be cool to hear what people think about them.

  20. Well as long as it works. Good luck then, and I hope you'd like my remake.
  21. Took me some searching to find your final version actually since the original site you linked to doesn't seem to hold the game anymore and even that link wasn't linked to in your first post in the thread. That said, it's a nice and complete port with the voices intact, just a bit more silent than the arcade version at many times and lacks the flashing red invaders. The matrix is a really good addition though. It's a shame that the Jaguar version couldn't be covered and instead there's a 800 and 5200 version, which are a bit too similar for this.
  22. This is a Windows game though... Unless you're going to use put your computer monitor into the cabinet? It uses keyboard input only though.
  23. A simultaneous comparison video of the different versions of GORF that I just came across and really liked: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCtHQuxi-Qs
