  1. Very nice, but System 7 is too new for a BW Mac in my opinion. Install System 6.0.8(L) on that bad boy....
  2. Yellow in the middle, red/orange on the edges. The rest of the screen is tinted blue.
  3. The original Thunderforce is for Sharp X1. It is a free-roaming game kind of like Time Pilot '84 but with super-annoying sounds and music. I mean, you will turn the volume down within 1 minute or you will go crazy.
  4. Aw man, don't ever wrap the cables around the computer like that. I've seen so many where sitting like that for years and it causes what looks like cigarette burns, but aren't. I am told it is a chemical in the power cables that keeps the plastic flexible, but it causes it to disintegrate over time.
  5. Even an old Pentium 4 with WinUAE and you're way better than the original. Sorry to say, and I do collect old hardware also, but at that price no way.
  6. "Listing has ended" does not necessarily mean it was sold. Even clicking on "sold" to sort them in eBay is not right. It will show any Buy-It-Now as sold when in fact it was not. eBay has been doing that for a couple of years to make it look like things sell for high prices. Maybe 3000's go for that now, but that's just crazy. Money is worthless now apparently.
  7. Heavy sixes, I do not mod. They generally look great on RF. Light sixers, I would mod all day long.
  8. Yeah, that's going to sit for a while at that price. It's really a parts-only machine. The board is gone...
  9. I think there are tons of threads already on here you could search to find opinions on different mods. If you are looking for a kit, there is http://electronicsentimentalities.com/Assembled%20Mods.htmlfound on Google. I would search the forums for reviews. If someone is currently selling one, they will probably pipe up eventually.
  10. I think the explanation was that the VCR expected interlaced frames, which the Atari didn't output, so it was not recorded correctly. I'll have to drag out a period-correct VCR and try it.
  11. Someone said you can't record Atari with a VCR. Is that true? I can't say I've ever tried...It doesn't sound true.
  12. Now Billy Mitchell has been caught cheating and was removed from Donkey Kong scoreboard. I wonder why he gets to keep his other records and it not banned?
  13. In this case, the issue is that there was never any proof.
  14. Like they would remember something that insignificant clearly... People can't reliably recall things minutes later. If you mean video proof, back in those days people didn't carry around cell phones that record everything.
  15. Unfortunately, things that mysteriously work and then don't work usually don't stop that behavior.
  16. Yes, our old CPUs have no memory protection, so they were always "vulnerable" to this. You always have access to all of CPU, RAM, registers, everything. That is how all the memory snapshot cartridges worked back in the 80's (and 90's). Action Replay...
  17. Heh- I've never considered an attract mode for Zork- that would be funny. What, maybe it enters random phrases?
  18. That's why you sell things on eBay for higher prices than you would elsewhere. There is a risk factor involved that has to be taken into account, on top of the 10% eBay + 3-4% Paypal fees. On top of that, I usually have to add a pound or two because they underestimate shipping costs, and then charge 10% of that, too.
  19. Exactly the opposite of this topic, but how many people took programming classes and the tests required that you wrote programs on a sheet of paper with pencil/pen? Now THAT was stupid. This was the early 90's... Writing Pascal and COBOL programs on paper.
  20. The mod itself can't cause video corruption like that- it is only a passive amplifier. You may have dropped solder on some TIA pins or damaged it somehow.
  21. These pictures look strangely familiar. My basement is similar, but not as extensive. I tend to periodically decide to unload a section and then buy up a new one to replace it. This helps keep it under control. You are unloading all at once... It will probably be liberating.
  22. The yellow wire is shorting to the components next to it on the board. Trim the wire and resolder it.
  23. I don't know... If the RAM was blown by the power supply, wouldn't he just get a black screen? I've never seen a blue screen with no sync from a bad power supply...
