  1. I printed the disassembly page and it was really helpful, but I foolishly spent way too much time trying to unscrew the screws for the fire button manually, when I should've taken my electric drill out for it right away. After removing the fire plate, I noticed the coil spring had just popped out of place. So I put it back in place, tested it, and it seems fine. So I'm about to test it so I switch the power on and it doesn't go on. Apparently the black battery wire disconnected during my tedious disassembly. My problem is, I can't figure out where to solder it back. I've tried touching possible locations but nosign of life. Now I'm bummed.
  2. thanks, I'll print the thread and check it out when I get home.
  3. there are none. I looked in and about the battery port and around the entire unit. Nothing. There are four little rubber feet that were glued to the bottom. I thought about screws possibly being under them, but I know someone here did rip open his Joystick and I would like to confirm they are under the rubber feet b/4 I go ripping them off. I peeled one back a bit and did not see anything, but I may just have to rip the whole foot off to tell.
  4. Has anyone taken apart their Namco Joystick? My action button "popped" and the response isn't that effective anymore. There are no screws and I'm afraid of breaking the plastic.
  5. I've been playing Bosconian almost religiously and I think I just broke it. The firing button isn't properly responding after I heard a "click" inside. I should probably see if I could return it but I never sent in the warrenty. Oh well. The best bet would be to do surgery on the thing. I'm bummed b/c I was doing well last night and then after the fire button sort of popped, I couldn't get passed the board I was on. My highest score so far is Round 24 - 433,500 pts
  6. I miss playing Omega Race, Gorf & Demon Attack on my Vic-20. My system broke b/c my brother thought it would interesting to see what would happen if he plugged a cassette decks 9v chord into the 120v Vic-20, since they happen to have IDENTICAL ports. There went the fuse. So I went out and bought a new fuse, identical to the one that blew and nothing. Never to work again. I did walk by a school that was throwing out a bunch of old TI's & Commodores and I snatched one (it was a bit dirty) and walked it 5 1/2 Avenue Blocks to my apartment (i'm in manhattan, NYC - if you know how long avenues are as to streets). I transported the unit to my parents house and left it there with all the rest of my commodore stuff I still have. I called my brother and he says he plugged it in and it works. I should bring all that into the City and check it out.
  7. I'll agree with you on that. The one thing that gets my goat is that when you die, it's game over. There's also the 2-player games that don't have a 1-player option. But still, they can be fun games.
  8. I just checked the titles of a few threads and didn't see this anywhere, so excuse me if this is old news. I found it to be exciting, yet very sad. http://www.deviantart.com/view/5142652/
  9. I just got the 128-1 multi-cart today and was checking out the games I don't have. I have to say, I'm glad I didn't bid on the Parker Bros. games, because I'm not that happy with Popeye. All in all though, it's great to play the games that would otherwise be difficult to get a hold of. I'm a bit perplexed with the Pong game. All I'm getting is Squash and no other pong like game. Anyone know if there are others?
  10. I did well last night. Got to Round 15, I believe and was over 230,000. The best I've done since 2/15. I am starting to get sick of the game though. And it actually slows down b/c of too much memory. It's weird. The whole screen moves in slow motion when there is too much memory used. I think I may venture to Rally X next.
  11. Agreed. I love pong. It's fun. but the version on the 10-1 joystick is biased. I can only move up and down so fast and my computerized counterpart seems to have the abiity to move faster than me. Hmmmm.? BTW, I got home on 2/15 from my girlfriends apt and immediately played a game of Bosconian. I got to Round.... I don't know 20?? and got a score of 381,050!!! I have since been over 200.000 once. I'll probably play a game in a few minutes.
  12. I got the AMOK! cart and I was going to order the multicard today but decided to wait a bit. I may Paypal him tomorrow. I've been keeping my eyes open on games at eBay but I'm taking a trip to Barcelona in May and I can't be spending my money on all these carts. And one cart would make life a lot easier. So I think I'll do the multicart tomorrow.
  13. I've found out that you can go diagonal in Bosconian on the Namco joystick. It's just a matter of playing around with the stick. I think the problem is that it is a four way stick and getting the ship to go in a diagonal is difficult. I can imagine that if you are able to remove the board inside the Namco casing and insert it in the Atari casing, you'll get the 8 way directional function. The does program have it.
  14. The 2600 version, I stay in the middle and hyperspace when I'm in danger. Then, when I reappear, I thrust back to the middle again. There's no ufo ship so you can play from the middle virtually the entire time.
  15. Overpriced would fit quite nicely in the area. I'll have to look into them more. I just caught the website, but since i'm at work, i didn't really read up on it. Maybe I should be in on when the lawyers go over the lease detail. I should insert a "classic" gaming clause with regards to Atari/Mattel and Coleco.
  16. I just got back from a meeting and I just found out that the Real Estate property I work for is talking with EB Games and a potential tenant. Is anyone familiar with the chain? http://ebgames.com/ebx/default.asp Will my paycheck end up paying for this tenant's rent?
  17. I'm probably going to invest in the multi-cart too. I don't know. PowerLords, if it came with the box and everything, i can see a start price at $60. I'm sure it would go up, but the cartridge alone with nothing else at $99 seems a bit extreme for me. I've seen a few different strategies with seem to work out for some. One is to sell carts individually. Another is to sell them as a bundle. I saw one group of O2 games, 20 I think, and it went for $51. I bought the unit with $43 games for $46, so I didn't get in on the $51 for 20 games. It did have Turtles and computer Golf, two games I still don't have, but I set limits. I collect for the enjoyment of playing. Not because I think there's value in the thing ten years from now. I have a lot of doubles in some O2 games (and a few triples), which, when I upgrade my home computer and get a camera, I intend on selling on ebay. I'll probably bundle them in groups though. When I'm ready, if anyone needs any O2 games, let me know. If you Paypal, I can give you first dibs.
  18. The Atari joystick is fun, but there are a few games that are paddle games. Circus Atari, Pong, Breakout are three games that lack with the joystick I just bought the Namco stick and either my response time is getting worse, or there's something wrong with it. Pac Man is fun, Galaxian isn't as fun as I thought. You can't fire fast enough or as often as I expected. Bosconian is fun. I've been playing every day. But again, I think my joystick isn't reacting clearly with my moves. I should probablly exchange it. I still want to get the Activision. I saw there is an Intellivision Hand control unit with something like 25 games in it. That looks interesting. Now, what would be really good is if they did one for Astrocade. That system is often forgotten and to have those games in one control until would be sweet.
  19. I wonder if some of these sellers on eBay do searches for the same item before they post a selling price. A week or so ago, someone was selling the Odyssey Voice module at a starting price of $97. Of course, no one bit. Yes, it was never used, came in box, like it was on the store shelf yesterday. But really. $100? Since no one wanted to shell out $100 for the Voice, the seller placed in on auction again. This time at $77. I figured no one would buy it for even that price, but someone did. NOW, I see the Odyssey 2 "Power Lords" cartridge up for auction. Just the cartridge, no instructions, no box, no nothing. The game. It works. $99. I know this game is rare, but I'm not that much of a collector to shell a $100 for that game. It's an O2 game, which means its not that advanced. I've seen some interesting auctions. An Astrocade listed at $9.95 and selling for $200. You never know. But I can see this cartridge sit till the auction expires. Maybe the seller will wise up and lower the price to something reasonable like the Odyssey Parker Brother cartridges, Super Cobra, Popeye & Q*bert. (I missed out on bidding with those cause i forgot to check on them last night) If you sell on ebay, remember to do a search first and get a feel for what your item goes for.
  20. Ginger Ale. Just kidding. Actually, it was Ginger Ale that ruined my original Speedway, Spin Out, Crypto-Logic cart. Underneath the sticker are two screws. You can unscrew the cart open and check it out inside. There maybe a dust bunny in there. Or it could partly be the O^2 connectors. Buy a can of compressed air and blow out any dust that's inside the unit. You could also try that with the cartridges. But I wouldn't use anything wet. You could make things worse.
  21. Before the Holiday's, I was fortunate enough to come across the Atari Joystick by JakksPacific. For those of you who don't know it, it has 10 classic VCS games built right into the joystick. The 10 games are: Astroids, Adventure, Pong, Volleyball, Missle Command, Gravitar, Yars Revenge, Circus Atari, Centipede and Breakout. I play Astroids the most. Today, I went out and got the Namco Joystick, which has five arcade games. Pac-Man, Dig Dug, Galaxian, Rally X Bosconian. Bosconian is my new fave. I've been searching for the Activision Joystick, but I may end up having to order that one online, since I'm not finding it anywhere. http://www.jakkstvgames.com/atari.html
  22. Sounds like it is. The computer picks a 5 digit code. You enter 5 Numbers. The computer tells you how many numbers you got right and how many are in the right order. And you keep guessing until it says: 5/5 You know, I don't know why I hear the Odyssey can't produce yellow yellow. Pick Axe Pete, for one, has a yellow board level. As for Freedom Fighters, I have to play it again. I tried it once. But as I was saying, I don't want to bombard myself with so many games at once. When I was ten, I had only nine cartridges to enjoy. Today, I have thirty-five!
  23. The one life in O2 games is very frustrating. I don't like how my score is always so low in the KC games, PAP and Timelords. After taking a much needed nap after work (I think I had a slight cold and was not feeling great), I made dinner then spent the night playing my Odyssey2. It was 12:30 by the time I shut it off. I still can't get passed Level 4 on AMOK! I think the option of killing all the robots should make Smileybot harmless. (Or at least, if you kill all the robots, you have the ability to shoot smileybot and freeze him for five seconds or something). Usually when he shows, I've killed maybe three or four robots and try to escape before getting them all. I played Dynasty last night too, as well as Matchmaker, Buzzword, Logix. In Logix, I guessed a number in six tries. I'm sure that'll never happen again. I think some of the "educational" games are pointless. I can't imagine paying $20 for Keyboard Creations and Type & Tell. Little kids may enjoy I've Got Your Number, but what a silly game (I did get a lot of games when I bought my O2 off ebay). I also played Alien Invaders and lost 10 to 8. But I am getting better. At first, I didn't like it as much as Space Invaders, and now that I'm getting better, I'm starting to enjoy it more. UFO I didn't play last night. I'll have to give it some more time, because I do find it frustrating with the firing. And Freedom Fighters I'll explore soon too, but I want to try and get the hang of a few games at a time. If these classic games get frustrating for me, I can only imagine how frustrated Rogue Squadron for GameCube for me.
  24. A new game for the O2. Since I always liked Cosmic Conflict as a kid, but now realize it is not challenging, I wonder if some game creator (which is certainly not me) would do a Cosmic Conflict II. The game would be similar to CC original, but. 1) Each completed round increases in difficulty 2) The Tie Fighters can sometimes appear two at a time. 3) The boring ships will start to turn at you and shoot at you. 4) Maybe give yourself a defense shield that will weaken. 5) The game doesn't end after completion. It continues and gets more difficult. Maybe work with the time on the bottom right. You get a lot of time. If you can killed, you lose time on the clock. When you complete a round, you continue with the time you left off at. Game ends when time runs out. You are judged by number of rounds you complete. I don't know. But something more could certianly have been done with Cosmic Conflict. Just my suggestion.
  25. I say collect for the Astrocade. Nearly an impossible system to find and get games for. But, I do feel it fits the term Classic, better than many of the others of the time.
