I have one of these which works beautifully with a VGA modded F18A system. On the downside it looks absolutely horrible with regular TI composite hooked up. Think blocky snow and really bad shadowy text. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I have a few backup units. Daily driver is the DeLorean model with F18A thanks to matthew180. Just won a beige model online which will serve as the testbed for major console surgery mods in the style of Sinphaltimus — hardcore dremel! Always wanted to add a flip screen to a console so...sacrificing the beige console because it looks easier to cut up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

What’s the Databar? Enjoyed the high scores in the latest newsletter. I’m betting that most recent VAST high score is unbeatable by even the best gamers here on AtariAge. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

TI-99/4 Console! Looks clean but probably a stock photo. Ships from Mexico with (0) seller history. Only weird part is the no power cord mention. Assuming a fake computer would include a fake power cord. Senior Falcon on AtariAge is quite good at fielding specific XB256 and Compiler questions. Did you ask in the Intellivision Forums if they have a similar editor to Magellan? I know there’s a book about Inty BASIC which covers dev tools: Programming Games for Intellivision https://www.amazon.com/dp/1387929089/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_3UDHCbZGRVNJQ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Just change the Width and Height of your Magellan map to 20x12 ... top right corner. Hint: You can also create maps much larger than 32x24. I’d guess you can just cut and paste your 64 character defs from Magellan output right into your editor for Inty BASIC. It appears what you need to do with Intellivision BASIC is already a subset of Magellan’s capabilities.

This is a good path to learning how to write an Assembly game as well. Using the compiler helps with workflow concepts when you move up to the Assembly challenge. It’s also a great way to practice with Magellan, and even learning about Classic99’s debugger, if you dare! All of the above activity leads to improving your knowledge of the system hardware which is essential for Assembly. My personal experience with Harry’s XB256 & the BASIC Compiler (two different things) was code running 20-25 times faster than standard XB. Check out: SCRAA.bin So sure, you can write a “decent game.” My code ran fairly fast and I was able to exceed 24K slightly since the resulting object code turned binary was smaller in size. The original code wouldn’t load due to size limits yet SCRAA.bin was okay. I believe I read the multiplier in speed for Assembly v TI BASIC was around 200X. At least TEN times faster than Compiled BASIC, and you get far more freedom to maximize the hardware. So...it’s alright to be excited. You should be! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

“Put your pinky of your left hand on the "A" key and place each of your following fingers to the right on the home row keys with your pointer finger ending up on the "F" key. The side of your thumb rests on the spacebar. To hit the "W" key (up), extend your ring finger naturally up from the "S" key, and your joints will naturally guide it to the upper-left direction there. Other natural movements are moving your pointer finger from the "F" key up to the "R" key or down to the "V" key. Using the spacebar for something precise like jumping feels really natural with this hand positioning.” ^^^^ I can think of no better illustration as to why Atarisoft games generally do not have keyboard controls. On a related yet much less technical note... I’ve always felt the early computer games overused the keyboard. Lots of really poor UI out there... Examples: “Press J for joystick or K for keyboard” or “Press Enter/Return to start game.” or “Press 1 to play, 2 to exit.” or “Press Spacebar to begin” or “Make sure alpha-lock is....” or As a gamer I much prefer joystick based menus with button presses or Joystick movement to select options. Ex: Building in a joystick-up menu movement requirement prior to starting your game assures Alpha-Lock is released on the TI console, well before gameplay begins, every time. It’s understood the TI console did not come with a joystick. Is it not safe to assume each potential player has one by now? Why punish all players with zero value added keyboard driven UIs? Text adventures may be the exception here. They may also be the reason bad UIs became the standard prior to action games: sports, shooters, etc. Nothing worse than having to get up off the couch to restart a game. Seriously, I didn’t buy a joystick cable extender so I can now get up and press the 1 key to restart each and every game. Friends don’t let friends KSCAN. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Cost: CPU RAM PAD is located at addresses >8300 through >83FF. 256 measly BYTES! ISR uses the high memory locations at addresses >83CO through >83FF. 64 BYTES! (25% hit) Conclusion: LIMI 0 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Safe to say there’s a consensus here regarding CRU bit 2 testing vs polling VDP Status Register for previously stated reasons? Added bonus is no interrupts enabled so scratchpad RAM isn’t “trampled upon.” Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
