  1. @phoenixdownita Sorry, I worded that poorly. What I was trying to say was that at that pricepoint he could put in hardware hundreds of times more powerful than what was used in those consoles originally so hopefully at the pricepoint of that technology he could find some tech that could act the same on a hardware level. Honestly though I would have 0 problem if it was a 25 pound block the size of a human torso with some actual hardware in it for systems it couldn't replicate. It would still save time, space, clutter, and money. I'm completely aware it is idealistic but I think if someone was dedicated to it and confident in the interest it would receive the hardware side of things could come together in the next few years and the cores fairly steadily over time. As for patents and the legal side of things... as long as the cores are unoficially released and don't include bios I'm pretty sure that is completely legal but I'm not sure what kind of hardware patent limitations there would be... hopefully equivalent tech could be found that was not patented. @Kismet Thanks very much for the detailed post! Just a few follow up questions: 1) Ethernet - Any kind of direct line ethernet would be fine even if it required an adapter as long as it was a direct line in and didn't reduce speeds. It would mainly be for connecting to the fan run dreamcast and xbox servers to keep things like phantasy star online alive. 2) Bliss box - I wasn't talking about using semi-custom hdmi in ports for the controllers but a usb for controller input, or perhaps get permission from/co-op with bliss box to make a multi-out that the system could read and could be used for their semi-custom hdmi port input? I'm told by bliss box with the proper adapter to console ports you can use a bliss box to work on the original hardware so you can use controllers you prefer better than the system ones on early consoles. 3) Bluetooth - same as ethernet, as long as it works 2 thumbs up from me! Really only needed for the wii-mote or perhaps it could be a kind of internal 8bitdo retro receiver for people that want to use bluetooth controllers on retro systems. While not something I would personally be interested in I could see it being a selling point and maybe feasible to add if bluetooth was being added anyways... actually now that I think about it, as the 8bitdo works with the current release doesn't that mean you can use it with any supported core right now? (Also would need support for the wii sensor bar or some equivalent technology) 4) 2tb sd card/nas support - what about external hard drive support? Supporting the complete libraries for the systems I listed for all regions currently runs me about 14tb not counting the ps2 and wii which I haven't acquired the complete libraries for yet. Although like 10tb of that is xbox. Anyways I could see the whole thing ending up close to 30tb if not more so it would require 3-4 10tb hdds which wouldn't be too difficult to link together in an external enclosure and get a usb 2.0 line in on. While that would make file transfers a bit slow with a small internal ssd or even 64gb sd card once the files were transferred it would still be considerably faster than the original hardware. If usb 3.0 could be supported then even that small nag would be removed even though imo usb 2.0 transfer time given the size of games on those systems would be completely tolerable. 5) 4k @60fps - 1 frame of lag for systems that already had 1 frame natively wouldn't be an issue at all! I mean all the games would have been designed for those systems with that in mind so removing that would almost be like making the games slightly easier imo so keeping it around and having the ability to view content in native 4k with 0-stock lag would be completely fricken awesome! Thanks again for taking the time to make that long post it was super informative.
  2. At the pricepoint I listed you could take the current console and put a gtx 1080 and i7 6700k in it. I'm pretty sure that would be incredible overkill to make something with support for the original xbox as its most demanding task. So I feel that having an all non-hdmi in one hardware capable could be a very realistic possibility in the near future and spitballing ideas is important because he is already making plans for the Z3K and this kind of feedback could inspire him to maybe take its design a step further. (When he gets around to it. I'm certainly not telling him to stop making the cores he can get done right now)
  3. I didn't want to just list off a hundred names so I kept it down to the big sellers that would attract the most customers. Besides if it can handle the more advanced systems then throwing those in slowly at a later date should be possible.
  4. Firstly, let me just say that this is a big ask and would probably require years of dev time, but I think it would be the hands down ultimate in retro gaming and while probably closer to the thousand dollar range it would be incredibly worth it because even if someone was only interested in 2 or 3 of the systems then they would break even, but if they use more than that it would be hundreds in savings. Anyways, what I would like is: Every non-hdmi system in one console without emulation. We're talking all of sega (Master System, Genesis, 32x, CD, Saturn, Dreamcast, Gamegear), all of Atari (2600, 5200, 7800, Lynx, Jaguar), most of Nintendo (nes, snes, n64, gc, wii, gb, gbc, gba), NeoGeo & NGPC, TG16 & TGCD, PS1, PS2, PSP, Wonderswan, and the original xbox. To save costs some immediate features to cut down on could be: Only a sd card reader included and maybe a port of some kind for people that want to plug in extensions to play physical games. And built in bluetooth for running the wii would hopefully mean you could do some kind of internal workaround where classic consoles could accept bluetooth controller input because the console would accept the signal and then send the hardware the inputs the systems were expecting. Also support for the bliss box for people that want to use wired controllers would be huge. This way you could completely avoid any cartridge connectors or controller ports except 1 for the cartridge connector addons (so people only pay for the ones they want) and a usb controller input for the bliss box (or any other adapter people prefer, but seriously get a blissbox) and that should reduce a lot of the costs. Features I would like: Bluetooth support (needed for Wii) Ethernet port Bliss box compatibility 2tb sd card compatibility nas (network attached storage) compatibility (requiring specific folder structures to make this work would be fine) 4k @60fps hdmi 2.0 support for 0 lag upscaling would be my wetdream if you could pull it off I'm just going to assume you can't pull off native rendering in 4k @60fps and 1080p is the max that would work. That means each console you could replicate in this system would still be rendering with improved graphics not supported by the console itself, many of which hdmi mods don't even exist for and almost none of which have 0 lag native rendering increases to 1080p... boom hundreds of dollars saved right there alone. Now factor in the fact you can pull backups off a sd card, usb drive, or nas and how much everdrives and optical drive emulators cost (and how rarely they go up for sale, good friggen luck trying to get a psio) And if people are willing to spend ~$200 to have a hdmi mod, drop another $500 on a xrgb mini, and spend $100-$200 on an everdrive, not to mention the cost of the console itself to have a SINGLE CONSOLE work like this (with 1-2 frames of lag added from the mini, and screen blackouts every time the resolution changes) and I think a $1,000-$1,200 price tag is completely justified to high end enthusiasts for an all in one product.
  5. Loving long file name support! You mentioned it was limited to 1k names though, would it support subdirectories (aka multiple folders on the main screen so you could have several hundred in each that would add up to over 1k names)? I don't see this being a real issue though as I only know of under 500 officially released games and doubt there are over 500 homebrew games/hacks I would want for the system but I'd like to know just in case.
  6. If preorders are open for this please add me to the list. If they are not open, thumbs up on your work so far. Looks great.
  7. Not really. Sounds to me like it is in the final stages so hopefully the hardware shouldn't change a lot and a rough estimate could be very plausible.
  8. I understand it is still early development but is there a rough idea as to the pricepoint of this yet?
  9. Please add me to the preorder list.
  10. All their cables are wired by hand so making a custom request isn't a problem at all for them. In fact they've made customs for me before. Also while learning how to do it might be an adventure I'd prefer to have a pro with superior knowledge and materials make anything I'm actually going to use. Just my 2 cents.

  12. Is it too late to place a pre-order? I would very much like to be put on the list for 1 if possible.
  13. I just meant that the buttons push down and slide back up in the same way. As far as them actually causing anything to happen... neither seems to do anything.
  14. So does this mean the reset switch is broken? Because it seems to operate the same as the game select switch.
  15. Nothing. But the switch does slide back up slowly on its own.
  16. Hi, I have an atari 2600 and while it plays joust and some other games just fine I was trying to play adventure and it doesn't seem to be working right. the game cartridge is freshly cleaned and turns on just fine but it stays at the screen with the "1" on it and doesn't do anything. I found out if I hold southeast on the joystick for a bit the block (avatar) shows up and I can move it around but it won't let me move to the next screen. Is there some step I'm missing?

Maybe similar to the original game "adventure" the author loves you could add an easter egg like Wade's secret base or something? (Maybe a little bike you pedal to turn on the lights or something like he used for a power generator) I would imagine Wade's room in the trailer would probably have some kind of artemis poster. As for actual gameplay improvements it seems to me like you've faithfully created a game that fits the description given in the novel. Can't picture it having much more stuff than what was mentioned in the book. Unless you want to add a bunch of references to other atari games in it. I'm sure a gunter would constantly have retro games on the mind.

Have you considered talking to the author? I'm sure he would love to give the game a little something extra, maybe as a reward for beating hard mode. Perhaps some bits of the first novel that got cut out because they didn't flow well, or maybe some info about the second novel/the first chapter or something.

If it makes you feel more motivated I am totally freaking out about it and can not wait!

So is there any kind of eta on this?

Did this game ever get finished? I've been eagerly awaiting the chance to buy a cart for it for ages! (as well as add a rom to my collection)
