  1. That's just extremely poor logic. Doing stuff that is going to leave it up to people to make assumptions will inevitably piss them off if they make the wrong assumption: If someone assumes there is no jailbreak and they spend $180 + $40 shipping to get one and then a jailbreak comes out they have the option to use the extra feature or ignore it and nothing will have changed for them. If someone assumes there is a jailbreak and spends $220 to get a console and it never gets released and they are left to figure it out on their own they will catch on eventually and be pretty damn pissed. Not only that they will also have to pick up a $200 sd2snes for rom support on the snes and a $450-$500 nt mini to have support for the consoles that it covers. Assuming Analogue knows the value of not pissing people off and having a customer base that continues to love them then the only reason they would keep people in the dark about a jailbreak is because one is coming later and they don't want to draw attention to it as something their company officially endorses. Anything else would just be really, really stupid.
  2. Thinking that it isn't because people would react better to being kept in the dark than hearing the truth is just stupid thinking to me.
  3. For A LOT of people that reason is to play roms. While not commenting on it is not misleading them the fact is if Analogue were not releasing a jailbreak they would have no reason to keep silent about it because people will still feel misled if they hurry up and pre-order the system and put faith in them only to have Analogue not live up to their past amazing standards after refusing to say anything about it. That would certainly leave many people not feeling well (some obviously irate because this is the internet and everyone is offended) and I would return my console out of principal because I need to vote with my wallet and a lack of rom support is not something I want them to make a policy out of.
  4. How do you know they weren't monetized on the nt mini? If Kevtris' contract stipulates the compensation for his work is a percentage of the sales then obviously selling a crap ton more consoles would mean he would make a crap ton more money.
  5. Your logic is the same as: Which I've already explained was stupid because: Obviously any "damage" done by admitting jailbreak wouldn't be coming would be nothing compared to the damage of intentionally misleading people. What kind of reaction do you think people will have if they fall for this strategy you're proposing Analogue is using and buy a console expecting it to get a jailbreak because one hasn't been denied only to find out it isn't coming? Do you think they will be happy? Will they just say "Good one, guess I'm stuck with this product that doesn't suit my needs but man did they pull one over on me!"? Or will they return the console and find out shipping is only $10 instead of $40 and be even more upset? If you think my logic is flawed I strongly suggest you take a long hard look at yours because it is terrible.
  6. I'm pretty sure the point they are trying to make is that you can pick up better displays used in the $50-$100 range on basically any site that sells second hand goods, and far superior large 4k low input lag displays in the $300 range. Even if your finances are tight upgrading to a nice low input lag 1080p display of a decent size for under $100 is going to be a big improvement to your setup. Saying you enjoy what is probably a high input lag, low pixel density display with most likely poor viewing angles and color accuracy and don't want to upgrade to something better even though it costs next to nothing is like saying you enjoy wearing shoes that make your feet bleed and someone suggests you buy some more comfortable shoes for $50 only to have you defend your shoes which sometimes spontaneously burst into flames.
  7. Oh yea, because covering it up and misleading people would be great for sales. Absolutely wouldn't have any negative repercussions at any point. And so many, SO MANY people would continue to believe and buy the console just for the never confirmed jailbreak that isn't coming as long as Analogue simply doesn't say it never will.
  8. We're obviously getting a jailbreak firmware which is why they have declined to comment about it. If we weren't getting it nothing would prevent them from saying no. The only question is how inclusive will the jailbreak be, as I doubt Kevtris has had time to crack any of the enhancement chips not already completed. The sd2snes chips are already in fpga language and should be able to be ported to the Super Nt with minimal fuss so those might happen soon-ish. Also as it sounds like Analogue is already setting their sights on a Genesis console I wonder if that would get a core here on the Super Nt and if the Snes will be a core on the Genesis fpga. The incentive to buy would still exist for the cart and controller ports but that is a bridge we won't have to cross for at least 18 months.
  9. Holy shit! The Super Nt has the option to change the color of the led to the color of the current center pixel! That means with a device that can compare the color of your led against the color of that pixel you would just need to figure out what the delay is (if any) between the center pixel and the led changing and add that number to the difference between the led changing and the center pixel changing on your display to match that color and you could use this to measure the input lag of your display. That's a neat little extra! https://twitter.com/twitter/statuses/962498022763630592
  10. "Always" was referring to on the lagless modes across the various cores.
  11. You literally repeated what I said but said I was wrong at the start. The lagless mode adjusts the clock speed and only speed runners will care about it. The alternatives for speed runners add a frame of lag and either drop a frame or has tearing.
  12. So in basic terms the clock speed will always be adjusted to 60fps regardless of what the native clockspeed was, but all this will change is the playback speed imperceptibly slightly and the only people that could possibly care about that are speedrunners who have two additional modes to pick from to get native clock speeds with their choice of tradeoff between a dropped frame and screen tearing with a single frame of lag?
  13. Aptly named. I once spent an embarrassing 2 hours of my life screwing around with driver troubleshooting my dap back when stand alone music players were a thing only to find out that I was plugging in the identical black usb mini cable that came with my portable speaker which was a troll cable.
  14. Maybe they could have a button combo to confirm like the konami code? Pretty hard to do that on accident while your screen is blank. And as someone with a digital display that supports all the retro consoles via my ossc I would like to have a lagless native clockspeed option.
  15. I'm a huge fan of my tcl 55p607. Takes everything my ossc can throw at it and looks amazing with modern or old content. Just finished 100%ing Breath of the Wild on it and it was a really fantastic experience.
  16. Regardless, you are not going to use it to talk with your Super Nt.
  17. Uh... what the hell are you actually trying to accomplish? The sd card slot is just a regular sd card slot if you want to write something to the sd card you can just use an sd card reader. As for the usb cable, if it is a data cable it will be marked as such. Note the little picture showing the data flow: Data or power cables can be used to charge the only difference is what pins are populated (obviously a charging only cable can't send data and won't have the data flow icon on it but that is the only difference). Regardless of which cable you use you still won't be communicating with the Super Nt itself though because it doesn't have any kind usb hub interface (software) so it wouldn't know what to do with any data you sent it (and probably doesn't even have the data pins populated). As far as sending data to the console all it can do is read data from the sd card or cartridge slots.
  18. That shouldn't be an issue as Analogue isn't falsely creating shortages to drive up demand for their product. Pre-orders are available right now at normal price. (Who could have predicted that? Shame they didn't keep any magical reserve units that would have made much less sense.)
  19. *Disclaimer: This is not a confirmation of a jailbreak, just an assumption that the jailbreak will be released after 1 week like with the release of the Nt Mini.
  20. Well if the Super Grafx fpga has an expansion port it would be the best way to use the Super SD System 3 as it could play the exclusive games.
  21. This is a discussion about playing them via fpga. There was no mention of hdmi only until your last post.
  22. I was only talking about if it could play it. There are obviously other benefits to using fpga technology besides hdmi so it is far from irrelevant.
  23. I never said it would work with hdmi, just that it (the console) would work with the 32x. Obviously in rgb. And the point would obviously be that it can play your Genesis game much better and still play the 6 32x games people enjoy. Also perhaps the jailbroken firmware could still play 32x roms with the 32x attached, I'm unsure if game data could be sent from the console to the 32x for processing or not though.
