TI-99/4A -- Tie Tac or Lapel Pin? (New Products)
Arnuphis replied to Omega-TI's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
Yep put me down for one of each too. Thanks in advance -
Yep the BBC Micro was a great machine. I wrote a student database program on one back at college. Never personally owned one. Sadly for us in the USA getting hold of one is a bit pricey. Might as well go for a BBC Master or Archimedes if you are planning to spend that amount of cash. Maybe the next time I head over the pond to visit the family I will keep an eye out for one and bring it back.
-
Oh wonderful! I remember drooling over that machine back in the day and always planned to get one but they were short lived sadly.
-
Aha! Thank you Sir! I knew I wasn't imagining things. So It's a case of tracking down this other version then.
-
I gave it a go tonight. Didn't work beyond the 40/80 column menu selection. Planetfall did although only in 40 column mode. Guess it doesn't like the F18a. I will add that this version of Lurking Horror is different to the one I had. This is clearly a later version as mine at the time did not have a 40/80 column option or the 'Lost Treasures of Infocom' heading. So maybe this version does need that extra 8k. Shame it isn't looking at the memory space my SAMS is occupying!

I have many fond memories of playing it with a friend as we attempted to solve it. Black screen white text and the game thrashing the floppy disk every time we entered a command. Back when text adventures were king and imagination was everything.
-
Necro thread time! I remember playing 'The Lurking Horror' on my TI back in 1989 on disk and I did not have a super cart so maybe it didn't need one.
-
Some great 'under the radar' systems there. Very nice. Nice to see a Mattel Aquarius in the wild too. All you are missing is a Camputers Lynx.

I always hoped for an 'all-in-one' board that would go inside the PEB (Like a Geneve) and have everything! We can dream.

Interest check: Micropendium and 99'er magazines
Arnuphis replied to InfernalKeith's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
Those are some lovely scans. Thanks for the link! -
Exciting times for that A500 as well with the Vampire board coming. Hoping to get one for my A2000.

Interest check: Micropendium and 99'er magazines
Arnuphis replied to InfernalKeith's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
Are there PDFs of these magazines anywhere? I never got to read them on my side of the pond back in the day. Shame I was late to the party on this offer. -
Yep that red LED is the SAMS. Tip of the hat to Ksaurl for that fine piece of hardware.

Looking for interest in custom molded FlashROM99 case
Arnuphis replied to Caleb Hansberry's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
I don't have a flashrom99 (yet) but I'll gladly throw in for a case if it will move you closer to your goal. -
Thanks for the kind words. I have the F18a installed and that's a VGA LCD. Will work on getting that menu system and a bunch of nice stuff on the SD now everything is working.
-
Yep I got it all working. Thar she blows!
-
Looks like it may have been an SD card issue(!) drive is now accessed but I get a 'disk not initialized' error.
-
So, I finally got my disk controller card back and finally had a chance to try it out. Using a straight through cable. Plugged in a 3.5 floppy and it's seen as DSK2. DM formats and catalogues it just fine. Added the HxC into the mix. Latest firmware, 12v yellow lead cut, config file on the SD card. Set up as Shugart with auto options off etc. ID0 switch on, everything else off. Added an HFE image and it is selected on the LED screen. Tried to access it as DSK1 and got Error 16. Tried to access the floppy(DSK2) and I am getting 'not initialized' error. Took the floppy off and I get Error 16 with DSK1/DSK2/DSK3. I took off the HxC and put the floppy back on and everything is fine again as DSK2. Any ideas? Cannot seem to get my Lotharek recognized as DSK1. Thanks in advance.

Rest in Peace TI Warrior. Thank you for everything you did for our community.

I'll have to give the keep a go... Once my disk controller card comes home
-
Tempted by that CC-40. Never owned one. Probably more of a curiousity than a useful item, no?
-
Is your TI a siphon for money? (In a nice way of course) ;)
Arnuphis replied to Omega-TI's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
Probably dropped around $500 all told for my system,PEB, Lotharek, AMS etc. Money well spent and a drop in the ocean compared to what other retro platforms cost to get into (Looking at you, Amiga!). -
Nice work. Something to consider for the future. All I did was replace the fan in my PEB with a nice quiet one and change out the LEDS for blue ones. Figured if the PSU dies then I can consider the ATX route.

Just completed the 80 Track disk controller MOD
Arnuphis replied to Sinphaltimus's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
Nice work! Looking forward very much to the return of my controller card too so I can start looking into some TI programming as well. I was too timid to attempt the upgrade myself and deferred to a couple of 'seasoned experts' on this forum. My config is also 80/80/40 and I have an HxC and 3.5 floppy in my PEB. I have a straight through cable which I made myself (so hopefully it's good) which is fine since I am okay with the floppy being DSK2. Really want to attempt something that will use the F18a and the AMS memory board but I will need to re-learn 9900 assembler as it was the early 90s when I last wrote and ran something. Should be fun. Love your disk jumper solution as well. -
I enjoyed this BBS for the all too brief time I was able to use it. Thanks again for hosting.
