  1. I've checked in now and then, but it always comes down to the final price. Finding one in pristine condition, KA-CHING, paying the shipping, KA-CHING, then adding in the power conversion stuff, KA-CHING, and of course the mandatory item, a Retro Clinic Kit, KA-CHING!

Yep the BBC Micro was a great machine. I wrote a student database program on one back at college. Never personally owned one. Sadly for us in the USA getting hold of one is a bit pricey. Might as well go for a BBC Master or Archimedes if you are planning to spend that amount of cash. Maybe the next time I head over the pond to visit the family I will keep an eye out for one and bring it back.

  2. Camputers Lynx 96K on the way... supposedly boxed with a manual... will post it once received.

Oh wonderful! I remember drooling over that machine back in the day and always planned to get one but they were short lived sadly.

  3. I gave it a go tonight. Didn't work beyond the 40/80 column menu selection. Planetfall did although only in 40 column mode. Guess it doesn't like the F18a. I will add that this version of Lurking Horror is different to the one I had. This is clearly a later version as mine at the time did not have a 40/80 column option or the 'Lost Treasures of Infocom' heading. So maybe this version does need that extra 8k. Shame it isn't looking at the memory space my SAMS is occupying!

  4. I have many fond memories of playing it with a friend as we attempted to solve it. Black screen white text and the game thrashing the floppy disk every time we entered a command. Back when text adventures were king and imagination was everything.

  5. So, I finally got my disk controller card back and finally had a chance to try it out. Using a straight through cable. Plugged in a 3.5 floppy and it's seen as DSK2. DM formats and catalogues it just fine. Added the HxC into the mix. Latest firmware, 12v yellow lead cut, config file on the SD card. Set up as Shugart with auto options off etc. ID0 switch on, everything else off. Added an HFE image and it is selected on the LED screen. Tried to access it as DSK1 and got Error 16. Tried to access the floppy(DSK2) and I am getting 'not initialized' error. Took the floppy off and I get Error 16 with DSK1/DSK2/DSK3. I took off the HxC and put the floppy back on and everything is fine again as DSK2.

Any ideas? Cannot seem to get my Lotharek recognized as DSK1.

    Thanks in advance.

  6. Nice work! Looking forward very much to the return of my controller card too so I can start looking into some TI programming as well. I was too timid to attempt the upgrade myself and deferred to a couple of 'seasoned experts' on this forum. My config is also 80/80/40 and I have an HxC and 3.5 floppy in my PEB. I have a straight through cable which I made myself (so hopefully it's good) which is fine since I am okay with the floppy being DSK2.

Really want to attempt something that will use the F18a and the AMS memory board but I will need to re-learn 9900 assembler as it was the early 90s when I last wrote and ran something. Should be fun.

Love your disk jumper solution as well.
