  1. Got mine today and it works like a charm. Thanks Ksarul! Just need the disk controller upgrade and the Lotharek SD card reader and my system upgrade is complete!
  2. Just a straight through 34 pin floppy cable and a Molex to 3.5" power adapter I think.
  3. Well once I order the Lotharek I will ship it off. I can then spend the TI-less time measuring drill holes in the PEB...
  4. Funny you say that http://www.theguardian.com/uk/2002/mar/03/research.elearning The original book has been around since 1086.
  5. Sure, I'm in. I need to mail mine off to Greg for the upgrade but I have separation anxiety already.
  6. Put me down for 1 cased unit. Thanks!
  7. I heard the US Department of Defense bought it to upgrade the IBM Series/1 in their nuclear missile silo.
  8. Welcome to the TI world! It's nice to see new people trying out the system. Sounds like you have serious intent if you are getting a PEB! I recently came back and am waiting on one of the Extended Basic 2.7 carts. Since you will be using that and Disk Manager the most, any cart that has both will mean less swapping time. I would say the F18A is the most essential next piece of hardware as you will be amazed by the results.
  9. Great feedback so far and some lovely looking setups. I can see the use of the 5.25" drive for backwards compatibility for old TI disks you may come across but the 3.5? What practical use is that?
  10. I wish there were retro computer swap meets near me (Sacramento). I miss the old 'car boot' sales from the UK.
  11. So, I am about to take the plunge and get the Lotharek SD card reader. I am trying to decide on what PEB configuration to go with and am reaching out to those with one. So a few questions and a thank you in advance. Did you have your Lotharek as DSK1/DSK2 and a regular floppy as DSK 3? What type of floppy did you go with internally? a 3.5 or 5.25"? Why did you choose that format? Did you also have an external drive?
  12. If you are just interested in trying out the Amiga to play some games, I would suggest an emulator like Amiga forever or pick up an A500. Even a nice 2000 will do the job if you don't mind the big box. Plus they are bomb proof but the downside is they use SCSI drives which are scarce unless you consider the SCSI2SD card option. As for Amiga games. I loved Pirates!/Civilization/Railroad Tycoon and The AD&D adventures such as Pool of Radiance series and Eye of the Beholder were good fun. If you decide on an AGA machine (1200/4000) then you can end up parting with a lot of cash, especially if you go to Ebay. Prices can get crazy especially once you factor in Accelerators etc.
  13. I'll take one for a NTSC 800xl please!
  14. That 99/8 is nice but 3K for something that is just a conversation piece is too rich for my blood. If I was throwing money like that around I would snag an Atari Falcon or Amiga 4000 Tower.
  15. Is there a good source of NoS or refurb keyboards for the TI-99/4a? Looking for a black non-Mitsumi one. Thanks!
  16. Yes the last one on Ebay sold for over $3k and made the news http://www.cnet.com/news/this-lovely-10mhz-home-computer-yours-for-only-3240/
  17. Great info. Thanks for doing this and thanks for all the help earlier today. I figured out my connect issue and am happily on the BBS. Nice work!
  18. Oh good lord. Time to sell that kidney. Would love to see some 99/8's made like the C64 Reloaded project.
  19. Welcome back! I myself have returned recently. I bought a populated PEB a few years back from Texin Treasures. Great guy. Glad he is still around. I never had space to set the system up permanently so it was sat in storage. We finally got a house that has a spare room I can use as a hobby room so I can set up some retro systems permanently. Like you I am discovering all the neat things I have been missing in the TI scene. It's a great time to come back. I got the F18A a couple of weeks ago and it is amazing. I would say it's purchase #1, followed up by the PEB and memory.
  20. Looks great and very happy for those that have gotten one. Can't wait until I get the 'nod' and can order mine
  21. I have the original disks so I plugged in my 1541 and gave it a go and all works fine. I guess I need to track down some better D64 images. Thanks for the help everyone.
