Got a Vic 20 in the box at an estate sale for $16USD the other day. Now to find some software for it. -
Did Spy Hunter come with some weird "Controller holder" thing?
EdwardK replied to Propane13's topic in Atari 2600
Agreed for the printing, mistakes get expensive with a 3d printer, but for my vacuuforming plan I'll have somewhat of an easier go with the measurements. Planning on using 2 controller cases to make the form to draw the plastic over, so those measurements should be an exact fit thanks to the nature of the process used. The only variable I'm going to run in to is going to be the thickness of the plastic itself, and I plan on going as thick as I can for durability. More thank likely it won't be exact, but i'll be functional. As for other configurations of the tray, all I'd have to do is rotate one of the controller bases from the spy hunter configuration, so that'll be easy enough. Biggest thing for my efforts will be finding a thick enough plastic and the right amount of vacuum pressure, but mistakes are cheap enough in the process that it won't really matter if it takes a few tries to get the right balance. Honestly, judging by the pictures and the low production cost associated with vacuuforming, I wouldn't be surprised if that's how the originals were produced in the first place. -

Close enough to give me a basis to test some things. If it's close to 2mm, I could probably manage that with the vacuum I have, if it's closer to 4mm I might need a bigger one, or a couple of shop vacs. I'll look in to it. Been thinking about building a new vacuu-form table anyways for some other projects. I'll bump this in a couple of months when I have the time to really mess with it. Might be able to make some viable reproductions on a small scale. -

if it's a thin plastic that doesn't have to take alot of stress it could be vaccu-formed pretty easily. -

My results from searching about the nets came up with this. http://forums.atari.io/uploads/monthly_08_2016/post-1-0-11444400-1471320420.jpg Decent looking shirt, in a reply to a post that I think was made by our OP. Still saying the OP should sent that letter to the France office -
Andrew, If you handle it a bit like an interview of you that I read (which mentioned the game that shall remain nameless ) I'm sure you'll do fine. Also for what it's worth, a friend and I rented the game when we were young, and thought it was odd, but didn't think it was the worst we played. We did however think part of the problem was us not having the right controller (We were 5, we didn't know any better). All joking aside though, I think the flack the game catches on the net is a bit undeserving, especially considering the details you mentioned in the interview I read. I think you giving them the back story should go over decently well, and I seriously doubt anyone will say anything negative on the subject, unless it's a hilarious joke they've been sitting on since the 90's.

You could try this address 1640 S Sepulveda Blvd #300, Los Angeles, CA 90025 but i'm not sure if that's them anymore either. Or have some real fun and try this one off their website Atari - Corporate and Financial Communication 78 rue Taitbout - 75009 Paris - France At very least, they might get a laugh out of it. -
That's not a sin. You were just an innovator and redneck engineer. Reminds me of my dad's first remote control for the Magnavox, me sitting on a bigwheel. Good times.

Definitely. Thinking about it, there were several on that list that I like much better now than I did back then. Atlantis being a major one of those, probably because I'm much better with leading targets now. Journey Escape was my favorite game to get friends who had one too many beers to play. Watching them try to figure out what the hell was going on there was priceless, and them sometimes getting Don't Stop Believing stuck in their head later and not realizing why was the icing on the cake.

Possibly capacitors, kits are available and relatively cheap. Double check with a good cleaning of the contacts though. I had one I was trying to power up with a Sonic 2 cartridge, and after a really good contact cleaning on the system and the cartridge, I managed to get visual on the screen to come back. I liked the Sonic Drift games pretty well, Road Rash was a must have as far as I'm concerned(i'm biased though, I love most of the Road Rash games). Also it's got Streets of Rage, Ninja Gaiden, Shinobi, a decent Paperboy and the other good news is the game gear is region free, so you can play any country's carts. Also, if you get one of the Master System adapters, it opens up the library a bit further.

Got curious. From the bottom of my 2600, the California number (800-672-1404) and the US main line(1-800-538-8543) are an advertisement multi line. I've sat through a few, and got State Farm Insurance, T Mobile, Direct TV, a Cash Giveaway sweepstakes, a singles line, and one of those "get a free vacation" timeshare companies before I lost interest in pressing # to decline the offer. Think I might have hit a new low. lol -
I'm surprised Venture got picked as late as it did. Always loved that game. Although i will admit, the Colecovision port is better.

I've often thought about sending off some photos for the Activision patches just to see what happens. I look forward to seeing if you get a letter back asking if you have been living under a rock for the last 30 years. Edit: Probably should have done some Google searching and checked if Atari even has any facilities in Milpitas, California anymore. Maybe whoever has the PO box now will have a sense of humour. -
Does my copy of Ninja Gaiden have a reprint label?
EdwardK replied to Treg's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I'd recommend you try to put your dislike of crooked labels out of your mind. If a perfectly straight label is a requirement for you, you're going to be searching a very long time to get the games you want. It's just a reality of mass produced products. Trust me, You'll find much worse. -
Collecting "random bits" of gaming hardware
EdwardK replied to jhd's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I did buy a 4 controller adapter for my Genesis before getting any games that went with it, but the plan was to pick up Gauntlet 4 and Mega Bomberman as soon as I found a good deal on them. Loved those games with 4 players, and with my wife and step-kids, that was a very real and regular possibility. So I'd say that one paid off. Otherwise, the closest I've come is buying controllers when I see them in the dirt cheap range, but I have the systems they go to. You know how it goes, nothing worse than being in the middle of a game and a button decides to quit working. Always nice to have a couple of spares. I've also intentionally bought extras for systems I didn't have with the intention of giving them to a friend who did have the need for them. Figure I owe him that much since he gives me regular shots at his duplicates for systems I do have. -
Who illustrated the original Atari VCS game catalogs?

I always thought they looked like the Schoolhouse Rock cartoons. -
Does my copy of Ninja Gaiden have a reprint label?
EdwardK replied to Treg's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I don't think that it being a little crooked would be a reliable way to tell if the label is reprinted. Alot (if not most) of my Nintendo cartridges are crooked, and nearly all of mine (except about 3 that I can think of) were either bought by myself or friends brand new off the shelf. -
I'd go with Megaforce. Probably my favorite game that's based on a movie. Unlike alot of other movie games on the VCS, the gameplay is somewhat representative of the movie instead of a pac man or frogger type game.
-
You're not alone on that one. Thought of another thing I do that's probably an Atari sin. My favorite paddle game is Super Breakout on progressive mode. All other modes could be left off of that cartridge and I would never notice.

I actually like Night Driver, ET and the infamous Pac Man(still can't figure out why this one draws so much hate) I have multiple working VCS's, some in the attic in a box somewhere, and I don't care if any of them are light, heavy, 4 or 6 switch. They were all bought on the cheap, or traded for under the assumption that eventually one of them would break, and I didn't want to be without one or at very least without repair parts. Haven't had to make a single system repair to date. The fact that they're collectable never occurred to me until I got on the internet. Still don't care if one model is more sought after than the other. I once got a group of people hooked on Warlords with the Catch option turned on, when they'd all gotten proficient with that variation and in a very competitive spirit, I switched the game mode to normal for the next round, didn't tell them they didn't have catch, and laughed my ass off at the chaos that ensued. For whatever reason (probably the beer and lack of an xbox controller) they couldn't figure out how to get catch mode back, and kept trying to use the same tactics they employed in the other game mode. (Note: I don't feel any guilt for this one. Best moment of the whole thing was one of the players getting the ball between his paddle and wall, resulting in his death as he yelled "Catch Catch Catch!" and frantically mashed his button.) I like the way mine looks hooked up via RF and can't understand why anyone would want to do any AV mods to the system.

Centipede had about a page worth of story in the instruction manual. Not sure if we're counting one that short though.

Sold All are very common per my experience, but I figured I would offer them up to the forum before I just took them to the game shop for a trade in. All are in playable condition. List is as follows, all are US releases, NTSC Atari 2600 - All cartridge only, no box or instruction manuals. Atlantis - Minor scratches on label Amidar - Damage to label Circus Atari - Missing end label Pac Man - Sears version, discoloration/spots on label Pac Man - Atari Version, similar wear to the sears cartridge, missing end label Haunted House - some wear/fading to label Race - Text label, One is missing end label, other is not Pitfall! - wear to label, especially on edges. label has been re-glued in some spots Pitfall II - no major wear on label, only minor fading Stampede - wear and discoloration on label, some spotting. label bubbling up in some spots, tear on label on the part where it curves over to the end Grand Prix - Fading on label, looks to have been re-glued. wear on edges of label Sega Genesis NHL 95 - includes case, no manual. Couple of small tears on outside of case. Case still holds the cartridge firmly and closes correctly. Minor wear on edge of cartridge label. I'm open to trades for Atari 2600, or Colecovision games, I have a small Colecovision collection and I am not picky about condition so long as it is playable, so it would be pretty easy to trade me some common titles for that system if anyone is interested. I was expecting to get a buck or less per cartridge as store credit at the shop I was looking to trade them at, and they probably wouldn't even take the sports game, so i'm not expecting much. I figure at very least they'd make good shells for anyone doing any homebrews. Thanks for looking
