  1. A bit off-topic but I wish SegaScope 3D games would be released as an Official Sega compilation title with the complete library for the 3DS. They made "A" Space Harrier game, but not the original SMS one. Since you can play Space Harrier 3-D in 2d on a SMS (unlocked after beating the game I think), I need to find a patched rom or maybe a save state I can load from my MegaSD. Has anyone made 2-D rom conversions for the library? Of course I'd love to be surprised by a MegaSG or MegaSD firmware update to eliminate the 32x hardware. Though if FPGA space limits this [likely], an idea for FPGA 32x hardware I keep having is inspired by the MegaSD's shell design. Perhaps my favorite [theoretical] solution would be to fit a 32x into it's own FPGA cartridge. Similar to the MegaSD's Virtua Racing design, I think a FPGA 32x in a Sonic and Knuckles style case would be the ultimate! Think about it: one could plug 32x or Genesis games into it like Sonic 2 stacked in Sonic and Knuckles. You could plug in your MegaSD on top of the 32x cart for the whole 32x library, Sega CD, etc. or use the upcoming (discussed) adapter to plug the MegaSD into the expansion port for the few 32x+CD games. This form factor would be sleek (goodbye mushroom repairs), allow real 32x carts for those that need it, get around the 32x/cd combo titles, and could be used on original hardware. Somehow I'd see Terraonion more likely than Analogue releasing this but would buy from either.
  2. phoenixdownita, that would be spectacular! Especially if paired with a more modern (and cost effective) set of glasses: " 3D Wired LCD Shutter glasses- for 3D Viewing of any system with a stereo glasses jack by 3dtvcorp"
  3. Actually, I just noticed that my HD Retrovision cable has an input so I just need to get a male to male stereo audio cable to connect the front of the genesis to the HD cable.
  4. https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/sega/32x/32X-PATCH-CABLE-WITH-FEMALE-9-PIN-DIN I've checked ebay, amazon, RetroRGB, and many of my usual online shops and I can't find anyone that has this cable for my TMSS-free Genesis. Might anyone have a link to one for sale or have an extra one to buy?
  5. Maybe I should simplify my question by starting with original hardware instead of the MegaSG. What hardware is needed to play Sega 3d master system games on a Sega Genesis? Do I need an original power base converter so I have MyCard access for the 3-d adapter or is there a modern option?
  6. Is the SMS adapter for MyCards ALSO for SMS carts? I'd like to know what extra gear would I need to play the 3-D Glasses game library on my MegaSG? I know the DAC and a CRT and Sega 3-D glasses (or maybe modern flicker equivalent shades if our heads are now larger than our 1980s vintage). Are there other adapters, etc. needed?
  7. Ah geez, I started an individual thread on the Sega CD core news - sorry to all for not finding the news here. Another mention of Pezz though - he cracks me up and I adore his sense of comedy. I have no affiliation nor get paid to say it, but I highly suggest others here check out his channel, especially for MiSTER news, tips and tricks.
  8. Pezz is quickly becoming a fave for me, especially in MiSTer realm. I highly suggest his Amiga setup video and scripts one. From another Atari thread I picked out a specific 256 Sd card a member claimed was compatible to put my MiSTer build on. Has anyone figured out total disk space spec details for a currently complete Mister Software library or rough estimation? That is, some sets people might use No-Intro, and others might use Smokemonsters. Maybe you have a complete ScummVM set that takes up more space. The ao486 core I can't even imagine a complete romset for. Perhaps the better question that is also sure to provoke childish giggling is: "Who has the biggest Mister?" "How much space does it take up?" Is anyone planning ahead for USB drives when CD support might get added? We are one hypothetical surprise announcement of a Sony PSX core away from instantly scrambling for storage beyond SD cards.
  9. I came here initially to check in about the aforementioned possibility that a Jaguar CD core would be added to Mister eventually - news is out now a beta or WIP Jaguar core is available. That said, now that I read some of the back posts since I have not caught up with this thread, I'd rather wish SainT the best of health and happiness. I am sorry to hear of your stress and some of the comments that might add to that.
  10. Thank you for verifying. This made me think they might also had been some grey version of the Mega Drive sold in the 90s in Europe I didn't know about.
  11. In my earlier mention of my 'vision' of what Analogue may do, I think it might make sense for them to release the adapters with the 8 console. I didn't remember a set timeline promised for the adapters, just that they would be at a later date. However, if they ever stated sometime in 2019, though I'm not upset, I guess others might be. I'm fine with the jailbreak until then.
  12. When looking at the official Mega-SG photos of the options (USA, EU, JPN, White), is the main shell of the EU one actually grayer or lighter than its USA and JPN counterparts? Other than the white one obviously, are the power and reset button aesthetics the only differential, and their case shells the exact same shade of black? I've never seen the actual units in side by side images to compare.
  13. About the chip tune functions of the Pocket: I am not really aware of the DJ scene other than hearing about it, but I'm told an original gameboy is a popular device, hence the inspiration for this pocket feature. Is anyone imagining the possibility that this will support other sound chip support? I don't know about the differences between the GB and GBA, but GG, Lynx and NGP sound chips would be great just to add to the possibilities and music options. I'm sure people on the development side would love to add the much loved Commodore SID chip if a handshake between the two FPGAs can be made. A simple SID music player would be amazing too. I do agree that the naming of the Analogue 8 sounds like a wide net for 8 bit consoles that Kevtris already has cores for from the NT mini. TG16/PCE/SGX would be a wonderful surprise as would 5200/7800 and Intellivision. I had an imaginative vision of Analogue's future... wanting to be the modern end all be all covering all grounds. This is purely speculation of course, but maybe one day Kevtris will make a CD based system to rival Polymega and Seedi [status? cancelled?]. Even without Saturn and Dreamcast, maybe some amount of CD cores up to Playstation 1 (PCE-CD/TG16-CD, Sega CD, Amiga CD32, CDTV, 3DO/CD-I/Jaguar CD)? An FPGA PS1 alone would be amazing - for real hardware, the current options are: - real discs/burned copies on a PS1, - the hassles, limitations and price of a PSIO, - original/burned discs on the models of PS2 that still have PS1 hardware. I could be wrong, but read that a fat PS2 with hdd loading or from USB on early slims skip the PS1 hardware and only uses emulation on the PS2. So, in a few years, I'd hope for a jailbroken "Analogue PS" that might support extra cd cores.
  14. https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/programmable/cyclone-series.html Cyclone V: 2011 Cyclone 10: 2017 Mister (DE10- Nano) Intel Cyclone® V SE 5CSEBA6U23I7NDK device (110K LEs) I think that means this development FPGA is newer than the DE10-Nano's Cyclone V
  15. Kevtris - thank you for all you do! I'm in on all of it! Let's consider the value of this device: A Game Gear and Atari Lynx where you don't need McWill screen mods nor cutting either console's plastic anymore for output to a tv. A NeoGeo pocket color. A GB where you will actually be able to see the games, unlike the original. Plus GBC and the amazing feat of GBA? That saves many from a GBA consolizer; play all on a modern tv or CRT with the DAC+dock? This is a dream for portable game streaming. Also modern battery life for all consoles implemented! Super high-res screen? A second FPGA to port some Mister cores over or create brand new ones? The Mister Turbografx core alone would make this thing also an expensive Turbo-Express clone, but with SuperGrafx support too! If and when Turbo CD support was ever added or Sega CD, to me this is a must own. Some other thoughts: - A future variant shaped like a GBA would be great for many, but I'm loving it as is. - I assume that the NGPC core will also support the small handful of NGP black and white exclusive titles? - Virtual Boy - though a shame the library wasn't officially released by Nintendo for the 3ds, a 2d version here would be fun. - I can see that the Japanese Wonderswan systems are beyond the scope, but maybe a core will get on the Portable. - I love the Mega SG, but Gamegear on an actual portable is fantastic. If the MiSter SMS core likely gets ported, a 'Master Gear Converter' is no longer needed. - Just really let it sink in, all the Mister cores that potentially can port over. Genesis? Instant Nomad (even better if a Sega 6 button 8bitdo controller works in handheld mode.) Portable Atari 800xl? Amiga? ao486 for Dos gaming? I look forward to hearing about the 'other' new console, be it a NT Mini separated from the DAC or otherwise.
  16. Bob at RetroRGB presented a great interview with Mike Chi, the creator of the Retrotink: https://www.retrorgb.com/interview-with-retrotink-creator-mike-chi.html So is it $50 for each system per new HDMI solution? I know they are basically a RetroTink condensed into a small form factor and with S-Video removed. Do I buy one of these, and separate console adapter cables or do I need to buy one for each supported console? If the latter, wouldn't one RetroTink be the better buy where I can then plug all current cables into that AND have S-Video options? I like the Genesis one where I'd have native RGB out converted to HDMI. I can even use that on my hdmi to SVideo adapter and hopefully have better video on my S-video tv than if I just used composite cables, yes? Future product pipe dream: Original XBOX: I was not impressed with the Pound cable for Sega and hesitate to buy the Pound hdmi cable for XBOX. Are there any future plans for a Mike Chi product of original xbox with HDMI adapter
  17. Being close to Halloween I do have a mysterious and disturbing game to discuss. I am no fan of this game but am curious to know if it was some official game or someone's basement homebrew project. Don't read any more of this if you are easily offended. In the early to mid 1990s, I knew someone who was very computer savvy. In the school computer lab there was a PC and a few MACs. This guy one day was laughing at a screen with some of his friends and I approached to know what the commotion was about. He was playing a disturbing game. I guess you could view it as comical, depending on how seriously you took it. He installed into a secret folder most noobs wouldn't find. It was crude and primitive Pac-man type of game with a southern redneck theme. In this version though were naked human characters (The film 'Deliverance' is a good comparison) where your playable character's goal was not to be caught by a hick and get mounted from behind. It is not a pleasant game and I had no interest in playing it. I don't remember if it was for Mac or PC but I have seen videos on banned and controversial games like HATE or some Columbine shooting themed game and am surprised whatever game I saw has not been covered. I would guess then that it is some 90's homebrew project.
  18. Geez, can this forum apply for a divorce from neo-atari? This new atari now daily gets more amazing in each layer of awfulness. I feel like I am watching a sequel to Inception. Stefan Werner's foul mouthed response to Johnathan Noddings is beyond redemption. I'm not advocating it, but if these guys got lynched I wouldn't be surprised. I sense a major future documentary into the Atari Box that will rival any E.T. landfill ones.
  19. Hey thanks! I made some progress. My only problems left are getting the spindle to spin and the door open switch to catch with the plastic lid. I got the tray to open slowly again. The little cog gear that aligns with the main spring side wasn't catching right. The switch in the picture - I thought mine wasn't working, but if you bend the metal part a little, the contact can be made. I am trying everything but have yet to be able to replace the lid to where it pushes it to the "door closed" position. I use a flashlight and line it up but it fails once my fingers are out of the way. Opening the plastic tray prior to closing may help. I followed a guide by Global Garage called "Sega Saturn not working. How to Replace the Laser. Disc not spinning and Drive empty issues" I adjusted the laser's pot with a multi-meter to .723 (as close to .720 as I could get). I cleaned the laser and greased the rails and it at least seeks a disk and moves. I pulled the spindle off and realigned many times. It once spun for a few seconds. Adjusting the spin pot on the cd rom pcb so far has no effect. I'm sure now that having a working tray open/close switch will work with the Satiator (even if I use tape to keep it "closed") but it would be nice to get this Saturn fully working. Seems I'm almost there. I appreciate all the help!
  20. I got hold of a Sega Saturn [revision 7] and it boots up fine. I needed to clean it and get a test game and Action Replay cart. While waiting on the ordered parts, I took the whole thing apart, dishwashed the plastic bits, and re-lubed the rails of the cd-rom drive and lightly isoprop cleaned the laser head. When I put it all back together, now, the eject button springs open instead of the slow way it is supposed to. It also now gives me of a tray open alert unless I put a book on top of it. Even when closed via the book weight, the spindle doesn't start nor does the laser move. Any fixes suggested? I am waiting on the Satiator news and will probably just use that instead of optical media, but I still like to repair what I can. Hopefully the Satiator can bypass the door open/close issue if nothing else. Thank you!
  21. I never pre-ordered this and feel for those that did. I only check this thread periodically. Regardless of the prototype PCB's legitimacy or not, I wonder if people at "Neo"-Atari are just hoping people don't ask the following: Even if the board is to be believed, a bigger question is how can ANY game [Tempest variant of otherwise] have been developed over the past months or years if the first prototype's creation date is pretty much now and backers are supposed to get the thing before Christmas? The short 2600 production schedule of E.T. comes to mind. One could argue Atari had hypothetical dev kits to work on and I could be wrongly assuming a prototype is the precursor to dev kits. If this prototype board is just an attempt to finalize a layout or something pre-existing, how much QA time should be expected for a game console, then allowing more QA to ensure hypothetical launch titles function, or so it doesn't get hacked in a day? Maybe they'd WANT it to get hacked right away to at least drum up some Playstation Classic level of hope for added functionality? Before people say Atari has nothing, bluffing, or otherwise, know that I share the same thoughts. I'm merely wondering with the above questioning what the current Atari company's thought process is about what backers and potential buyers are thinking or supposed to think about a prototype board NOT dated a year or so prior.
  22. I haven't kept track of which original retro ICs are still in production or not, and I suppose getting spare chips off older Sega boards would require much more skill than popping out socketed Atari ones. Tectoy in Brazil, if not for import/export issues, would be an interesting company to consult with about ICs or GOAC. I don't know the current status of production GOACs, but it seems unlikely and unnecessary to create a GOAC from an open-source FPGA core. Probably the best we will see is more like the Ultimate 64, with or without sockets for real Yamaha chips. Not that that's a bad thing. That or a project fitting a Mister or Analogue SG (or future FPGA product) in a G1 case with a DAC.
  23. So I recently heard Bob at RetroRGB mention how much he would love a new drop in replacement motherboard for an original Sega Genesis... I have a Commodore 64 MK2 board, and admire the Ultimate 64 one and the Atari 800 XL in a 1050 disk drive, Eclair, etc. I really like Bob's idea though. So, though I don't have the experience level to design such a board, I thought about what features would make a redesign worthwhile, and maybe some here would like to hypothesize or render designs of a definitive Sega Genesis/MegaDrive. "If you build it, it will come" type of idea. - With the Analogue SG already out there, I wouldn't go the FPGA route of an Ultimate 64 equivalent as top priority and would favor a MK2 Reloaded type of design, with all specialty chips required easily dropped into ZIF sockets. - Original stereo headphone/audio jack should remain, but stereo audio should also be available on the rear output. Maybe a triple-bypass built into the design. - I always thought the system had built in S-Video and that I had a cable to do so. In this reality now my upgrade back in the day was perhaps a composite AV cable instead of RF. I guess the magazine EGM didn't showcase a S-Video upgrade after all and instead when I was presented with the sharper video detail comparison of the 'Don't Walk' sign in Batman, it was for the upgrade to a composite AV cable only... so strange! Yet, I'd hope for a S-video out port common replacement of the RF which would fit the plastic shell's hole. - HDMI, even if micro with adapter would probably fit the channel-select plastic hole. - Probably a good switch is to make a custom AV port which would match the Model 2 Genesis AV out but with extra plastic to fill in the space of the shell's hole. The middle-man of cable adapters could be avoided in this way and cables could be compatible with other Genesis models and even the TurboGrafx-16 - Was the "EXT" port ever even used??? Maybe that is better for a full size HDMI out port? SD card for rom loading? That would require adding supporting features to the board, I know. - Clean power supplies already exist like the TRIO and DUO, so the power port likely would remain unchanged. With the above, I can see at least a jailbar-free clean audio/video and power new Genesis. Now, I'd love the experts to chime in: 1. What original specialty IC chips are still in production if at all? 2. I'd assume the Yamaha sound chip is a must have, but could/should any ICs be integrated onto the board (like the PLA on the Commodore 64 Reloaded board after a claimed 100% reverse engineering by Individual Computers)? 3. Where would subjective outcry start to dominate the feeling it is no longer true to the vision of a board? Think of an army of RAM chips on an original C64 get consolidated onto a C64C and really optimized and consolidated on the Reloaded line? 4. What capacitors, resistors and other components could be reduced in trace requirements with modern technology to make both a cleaner board and energy efficient to use a standard cell phone charger for power? 5. This will be divisive I'm sure - purists will want the expansion port for a real Sega CD and physical copy of games. Those with burned only copies and or a Mega SD wouldn't need it. Should it be removed to save costs or used to support USB controllers for example? Finally, I suppose all in the ideal world would unrealistically want a Mega SD FPGA built-in to the board regardless of Terraonion's closed source proprietary work extremely unlikely. 32x support as well to be that prototype Neptune or Pluto all in one Sega system. I would LOVE to see that someday but more immediately, I do think the Sega Genesis deserves a drop-in replacement motherboard as per Bob's off the cuff aside. I hope others here will comment, create pictures, or more here, even if the fruit of the labor is merely hypothetical. I love this kind of stuff!
