  1. Cross referencing THIS thread, I managed to hose color on my 800xl but I am confident it is temporary...

Will this device or the SOPHIA bypass whatever I did so I can get COLOR and great video after 30+ years? :)

With this board (and I suppose Sophia)- I read that with these you don't HAVE to mod anything on your board, but are there still some modding that makes these upgrades even better or is such butchering moot and redundant?

  2. I think I incorrectly assumed: though it wouldn't be output as RGB (or upscaled), I would get the best (or great, or ANY) Composite or S-Video signal out of the Scart cable. I also just tried my MIST computer, set to scandoubler=1 and can't even get the main menu core to show up, let alone any cores that support 15kh. Maybe my RGB mode on this monitor is just plain broken. Guess I'll wait for my adapter to come in and try this again on my other monitor. I am losing all faith in this RGB stuff.

  3. Hey Everyone. I tried the earlier easy 3 step Faicuai method and got mixed results and wondering what I am doing wrong.

    I clipped out C56.

"Solder Chroma-signal wire from R67/R68 junction" - Does this mean to put the wire to touch R67 or R68 or BOTH (right in the middle of them)? (Currently between both based on online pics)

I got a decent signal, but the picture was in black and white. If I pushed the leg of C54 back down to its former joint, the ready prompt turned back to blue. I tested that "live" which may have been a bad idea... I only get B&W now even IF I put that leg back. I removed C54 completely for now. How do I get color back? I've tried with both NTSC and PAL Antic chips swapping out in case it was a PAL issue.

  4. I have a 800xl, MIST, and C64 with cables to end with scart, then a scart female to 9 pin RGB (and stereo cables) to connect my old CRT Commodore monitors. Only issue is my RGB cable is male and I have two monitors - one with male pin in and one with female, so I can only use the latter. The easiest fix would be a small RGB female/female adapter for the other monitor so I don't need more cables. CANT FIND ANY ON EBAY/AMAZON/retro shops online! I see similar 9pin adapters on Amazon but they state for serial or Null modem and unsure if they'd work. Attached is a pic SIMILAR to what I'm looking for.

Anyone have a surefire solution or link? Thanks!

  5. I have been dreaming of an Atari 800xl "C64 Reloaded" type board and this and the EclaireXL look very promising. Thanks to all for making this possible. I am stunned at the layman's ability to improve upon and perfect what a whole corporation did decades ago. I know Michael stated he has no plans to alter the board design to fit a real Atari case but for me (he's done plenty and no one should ask more from him) THIS is what would set a new Atari in my collection with my stock 800XL and my MIST FPGA. To me, what MADE 80's 8 bit computers as much as their real chips were that they were housed in the same case as their mechanical keyboard. If my first dream is becoming mostly true... here is a case wish list chronically ordered:

    1. Clever people build a new motherboard with Michael's design to fit a real XL case (I don't look at the rear and don't mind wires just running out an XL's plastic holes)

    2. Atari XE Game System case: may not have a built in keyboard, but at least the case is real Atari, and the most 80s looking thing of glory!

    3. A sleek NEW Atari 8-bit themed printed case with WASD type mechanical keyboard built in.

Has anyone considered inventing a middleman adapter for the Atari keyboard ribbon cable? Ideally, it would protect the ribbon cable and secure its fitting more firmly, sure. It would also be great if it was a universal interface that could pair on its own (or via custom adapters) with a real Atari motherboard and convert ala "Lotharek magic" to usb to work mapped in original/PC layout.

EDIT: Being fair, another great project would be re-creating the XL mechanical keyboard on a customized WASD type keyboard.

  6. Just got a new (to me) clean, working FULLY (28) Socketed NTSC 800xl and wish for the best video output 2017 can offer (RF childhood memories be gone..). Inspired after viewing youtube clips by "The Modern Atari 8bit computer" I have a NOOB video question:

Comparing Bryan's UAV Rev D. and Simius's RGB mod, which would be best for my setup? I have:

Commodore 1902 Monitor (CRT) with both chroma/luma inputs AND RGB in (Pin, not RCA type),

Dell LCD monitor (has Svideo and Composite in!)

Samsung USA tv with Component in, VGA, and HDMI

a 5 pin to audio/Chroma/Luma retro cable (compatible with both my 800xl and C64)

a 5 pin to SCART retro cable (currently can only connect to USA tv with crappy hdmi converter box)

I'm also comfortable removing/replacing a capacitor or removing an RF box or soldering a wire or two.

  7. Already right there you've provided information that I haven't found anywhere else. Thank you! I didn't know how the creators managed to load atr files from the cartridge slot. So, even with a flash cart I'd still need a solution for loading most games, since they are in ATR format. In emulation, I never liked switching disk sides. Perhaps off topic, but has anyone made Atari file format conversion software to trick hardware into thinking an ATR is a cart? Or taking a game with multiple sides and disks and combining them into one file where in game, it auto-switches sides behind the scenes?

  8. I did mean a flash cart or SD card in a flash cart combo but I'm a fan of options. Just got an 800xl- I have game controllers, power, and video taken care of now so I'd like to get my software library playing. I'm not collecting original carts and floppy disks, but would love to play the games in a quick load and easy switch between games. I'd prefer not having to have a laptop tethered to it and a cart solution looked like the best. If a cart also gives speed or memory expansion built in, even better. How is "The!Cart" for instance? If that is from 2013, maybe there is a better or newer one?
