  1. I've used Hyperspin/Hyperlist xmls for a while and find it is hard to find one place to get an ongoing list of modern (Ie. POST year 2000) Sega games. I get piecemeal murmurs of new titles like Coffee Crisis or Piers Solar, but it would be great to have a definitive list of new games for older Sega consoles. I love that there is more than one Alex Kidd 2 now and would be sad to miss out on a good title like that.
  2. It would be nice to have a compatibility list for all light guns across all all Sega consoles. I don't know of any adapters to play Saturn or Dreamcast on earlier systems but SMS and Genesis have the same plug type. I've read though that Sega Menacer games used infrared and aren't true light guns. I'm guessing then you can't use a SMS light phaser on these titles. Are there rom hacks that allow this? If you can't use a Menacer to play Lethal Enforcers, do you still need the Konami light guns or do SMS light phasers work? Maybe there are more options if using MiSTer through USB? Maybe there is a best suggested light gun for each console? The SMS likely had the one and only, and I don't know any other than mentioned for Sega Genesis. I have seen various used ones for Saturn and Dreamcast but don't currently own any. Any better than others?
  3. I've played through Shining in the Darkness and Shining Force and soon to start by going through them in order. I have to see if Shining Force CD is the same game but with cd soundtrack. Looking through Smokemonster's Everdrive game lists is a good way to get ideas which titles could have CD soundtracks brought in. Look under Game Series Collections/Franchise and you will see what I mean: I can see the TMNT games getting arcade music and sound effect upgrades, The original Batman's music is already great, but the Tim Burton film's OST would be interesting. Disney games a' plenty: Little Mermaid, Beauty and The Beast, Aladdin, Lion King. I wonder how Castle of Illusion would sound with the Fantasia soundtrack?? (read on) Under movie based, many are subjective based on how badly you like a film OST. I don't know if adding the Wayne's World theme is worth it, though I think the Terminator games would be great with Brad Fidel's music in particular. Fantasia is known for it's soundtrack so using the game rom of Fantasia with the soundtrack makes more sense than Castle/World of Illusion. I'm in the minority that has nostalgia for Back To The Future III on the Genesis - that might be fun with the OST too. Can MD+ be used to make compilation games? Imagine hacking 6-Pak to make a complete Phantasy Star collection of 1-4, with part 1's various translations, and the GG and the Phantasy Star II Text Adventures. That would make for one repro cart.
  4. Agree with all you said about Panzer Dragoon. At least with MD+, the end user can create some of these ideas, if Sega doesn't. Panzer Dragoon as a Sega Cd/32x combo game would be great, but I know nothing about how one would do this. Though what WOULD be great is a MD+ version of Ghostbusters with the 80s-tastic soundtrack. The diamond being Ray Parker Jr.'s theme but I've loved the entire soundtrack for decades! Songs like Savin' the Day, Cleanin' Up the Town... Laura Branigan rocking out on Hot Night for the fire themed stages. Dana's Theme in the ice stages. The Thompson Twins's song In the Name of Love when you play as Bill Murray, the song Magic when playing as Harold Ramis. The intercuts could continue to use the instrumental version of the Ghostbusters theme and save the vocal version for the bosses and end credits (or Savin' The Day for the ending). Now if only I can figure out the gobblety-gook written in the MegaSd's MD+ manual.
  5. Of course I agree being the OP voice, but to add to the idea, I was messing with the entire light gun library for the SMS the other night. Some titles are very hard, regardless of my distance to the screen. The library is slim, and I thought about what a lost opportunity for Sega. The SMS light phaser were the same as the ones used in the anime. The name 'Zillion' is actually the name for the guns they used. Sure, the zillion gun features as your weapon in both games, but I'm surprised there was no 3rd SMS installment of Zillion that actually incorporated the Sega light phaser as a controller. In the anime the three worked as a team (regrettably called 'The White Nuts'), so I could see a 2 player co-op game where one player uses the light phaser and the other a SMS controller. I could also see a double light phaser game called "Zillion 3: The Gun." I envision a game a little like Space Gun with stages set around Japan, both in cites and the anime's rocky terrain on their ATVs (like what you ride in Zillion 2). dj_convoy, how would you see this? I also really like the Sega CD idea with FMV. Could be like Mad Dog McCree, but maybe just for cut scenes like The Terminator or Sonic CD? The anime has so much to it that could be used to make a retro game. Govellius would be AMAZING as a remake like Wonder Boy got where you can toggle between the classic look and a modern one. Creating this with a brand new sequel could be a hit on the same platforms Wonder Boy released on. I'd give it the Y's treatment and call it "Govellius: Book 1 and 2" As for the MD+ version of Sonic 3, it is actually the game of Moonwalker but with Sonic 3 music. Nice to have the option, but no replacement for the MJ vocal tracks in my opinion.
  6. JOY!!!! I also think the people that sold an NT mini for 1000 to 3300 (be it euros pounds or dollars) will have the last laugh when the Analogue 8 comes out.
  7. Ugh. If Kevtris sees this post- please convince Analogue to do another run of the DAC. I wish they would time things so we don't have to pay the heavy shipping for each and every item. I would have bought or pre-ordered the DAC with my order of my much beloved MegaSG. If anyone cancels their order please let me know.
  8. If people were to guess from previous releases, any speculation when we can pre-order the Pocket, Dock... and DAC?? Wait, the DAC says Sold Out as well. Was there even a pre-order? I hope they plan to stock more. I was going to save on shipping by buying it WITH the Pocket and hopefully the dock all in one go.
  9. I am very sorry to hear about any hostility in life, especially in an area of my escapism: gaming. I respect great work and I'm simply too old and lack the time for both the cool tables and the nerd tables at lunch. I REALLY I don't have the time, and have never been on a discord and barely know what that is, so I am unaware of the daily drama. I watch positive people like Smokemonster and celebrate all things FPGA. I got a MiST after my jaw dropped from a video explaining it by Phil's Computer Lab. Then I looked for all FPGA projects for Commodore and Atari, then discovered MiSTer and Kevtris's Zimba 3000 page here. That became Analogue consoles and my FPGA devices include MIST, MISTER, MEGASD, MEGASG and probably a flash cart or two I am forgetting. I plan to buy a Pocket, dock and DAC, and maybe whatever the '8' is. I am a 'cheerleader' for all platforms, and hope for Mister compatibility with the DAC one day. So that said, I have had pleasant exchanges with Kevtris as well as some of the MiSTer devs. I have donated money and gear to members here with youtube channels and have tipped some for pm tech help. I send love and peace to all here and hope for less 'discord' among everyone as a hope for the new year. You are ALL awesome in my eyes. Mister cores on the Pocket might be the 'Simon and Garfunkel' setting aside of differences many of us would welcome.
  10. I saw the reviews, and though I would love one, I cannot justify the price over getting an Ultimate64 for one of my many spare breadbin case/keyboard combos. I don't fault the company at the price because I don't know the manufacturing costs/return ratio for a niche company to recoup. If it were under $100 eventually, I might bite - until then, I am happy with my MK2 board from Individual, despite the S-video output being frustratingly subpar on mine.
  11. Trebor- thanks for the link, and actually- you bring up a great point. Can someone of Atariage speak with authority that the games purchases support the site? It would be a nice reminder to all that they can help support the site and get a game in the process.
  12. Hopefully this will be less of a wish list thread and more of a vision with what is possible. Of course coders can create anything I suppose, but what about engines and the like. I dream of a day when an average Joe can have a 'Super Mario Maker' level of ease with simple engines and tools to make a game for any system they wanted. If they told a great story we could breathe new life into older consoles. A GREAT example of this is the Alex Kidd sequels and demos made with the tool, KiddEd. This Sega mascot, I couldn't get enough of and hope Sega brings him back. Is anyone else wanting a Golvellius-Ed program to be a thing so we can finally have the sequel Sega teased us with decades ago? Maybe ports of the MSX versions can be used to make a 'sequel' if not. I will probably see the day Mel Brooks makes "History of the World: Part II" first. So, I have a great idea for a perfectly doable Sega CD game, being the perfect platform!! What about Zillion 3?? Zillion 1 and 2 for the Sega Master System vary greatly in gameplay and style. To me, this series is grossly underrated and have dreamed of a sequel(s) for decades. The Sega CD has FMV games that are cool, compressed versions of arcade laserdisc games you play in Daphne. Zillion has a great anime and the music from the Sega games was taken from the soundtrack. The show even has Sega's then mascot OPA-OPA in the anime!! So, if you remember reflex and memorization Daphne/laserdisc games like Cliff Hanger and Road Avenger compressed on Sega CD, if NOTHING else, I'd bet a Sega CD Zillion 3 would be amazing! All one would need is to take scenes from the anime and use the opening/closing credit music and you'd have a FMV game of reflexes. If one were ambitious, MD+ versions of Zillion 1 and 2 could work with redbook audio... even Opa Opa could get a stage using pre-existing games, or M2's creation of a never before existing System 16 arcade game Fantasy Zone II: The Tears of Opa-Opa could work. If 'Cliff Hanger' got a remaster using Lupin Blurays, maybe this Zillion 3 for Sega CD is possible from the anime. Finally, when I was working on my ideal personal tweak of MD+ Moonwalker, I saw a broken link to what I think was a MD+ version of Sonic 3 with MJ's original music mixed in. Does anyone have a non-broken link so I can explore this one?
  13. What is MD+ you ask? I am very new in learning about it, and thank Pezz82 for a great video (and links) so I could play Streets Of Rage 2 with the remake soundtrack, Outrun modded with the feel of the Arcade version, and I read about others. Basically people tweak the sights and sounds AS IF it might have been released as a better Sega CD version. The SNES has games like this now too. So, recently on RetroRGB, I saw mention of Moonwalker getting the MD+ treatment! The game was always great fun for me! I saw it in magazines and anticipated it! I owned it and played the heck out of it and dreamed of replacing the MUSAK (what I called it then) with the real MJ songs. So, I downloaded the pack and patched the rom and... though the experience is great, the songs are instrumental just like in the original game. I get it why they are instrumental, but thought if Sega COULD make a Moonwalker CD game, they likely would have milked their deal with MJ to include his vocals. So I looked at the files and updated it from my own music collection to edit out the intros to more closely match the edits in the instrumental game and the MD rom. Since there are no in-game volume options, I thought the audio was too loud, and after a few tests, settled on about a 3db cut to make the music mix well with the sound effects. If you love the original game, you simply MUST play it with Jackson's full music and vocals... unlike a game like Revolution X where Aerosmith music is the soundtrack, you don't actually play AS Steven Tyler. In Moonwalker, you are playing a game based on an extended music video you've seen, play as the lead from the video, oh and that guy is the most famous pop star in the world. Now add the real music, and I think you will see that there is no longer a reason to keep the songs instrumental due to 90's limitations of a Genesis. I updated both versions: MD+ Moonwalker (Another Part Of Me) MD+ Moonwalker (Thriller) If someone wants to PM me a way to share some of the files/patches I'd be happy to help, but please remember I did not make the original MD+ version of the game. I only replaced the music files from my own music collection and am sure many of you can do the same.
  14. Sorry if I missed it, but does the boxed copy also come with a rom download? I was debating re-buying a 7800 and think I'd prefer to play the game on a future A7800 MiSTER core or Analogue product.
  15. You have the right to express your opinion, but I doubt it will be a favorable one by the majority. jotego seems to be a well respected individual and I am very happy with his FPGA cores. His work is fantastic as is Kevtris's. I'm baffled: Why say such a thing? A difference in ideas over a GPL 3 license? That he may not have had 100% surety that Analogue took code? I don't know your talents, but I have yet to release a FPGA core for any playform, so at least in that area, I MUST be dumber than jotego.
  16. Thank you all for the tips and tricks. As you know, these things aren't inexpensive, so when losing suction on my FIRST C64 board after about 12 chips, I panicked that I had a lemon. I know service and cleaning were par for the course, but with no frame of reference, I thought that was WAY too soon to of an interruption to my fun. I tried poking the rod through to clean it and dump the canister contents before my original post. I will try to clean every part that needs it, and I see I will have to order more filters just to keep work flow going. Those blue $6 solder suckers I can't stand unless I have nothing else. The spring and backing pop out from a crappy locking design and I tape it to keep it from constant fiddling. They remind me of the "Wayne's World" joke of the 'suck-cut' (It certainly does suck). I may try Crayon King's link to have as a good in-between, but will be careful on fragile boards as DrVenkman suggests.
  17. DrVenkMan, Please don't fault me for thinking that was a tasty mini-quiche with a pearl of solder as a garnish.
  18. I've done some soldering but wanted to get into some desoldering work, particularly to re-cap some consoles of mine. Earlier in the year I bought a Hakko FR-301, hoping to make life easier after butchering some dead VCR boards as practice without one. I fired it up to retrieve some ICs on a dead C64, as well as to practice capacitor removal. First few ICs and caps were a breeze and my investment seemed to be worthwhile. On the same board, just a few chips later, the task is getting harder, and the vacuum seems no longer there. Using the same small circular movements, all that happens it seems is just making the solder joints shinier. The solder melts from the heat, but the vacuum doesn't such anything out. The thing is brand new and a well respected brand no less, so I assume it is my learning curve. I looked up videos of how to clean it out and did so, but can't imagine a brand new desoldering gun would need it after under an hour of use. I have several cap kits waiting to go, but I don't want to attempt anything until this is first resolved. Any tips and tricks that might help? Thank you all!
  19. I can't imagine playing vintage computer cores with a modern keyboard like Logitech or those RGB lit cherry switches. I'd want to mod something like putting the Analogue dock and DAC in an Atari XEGS case where the Pocket fits in the XEGS cartridge slot, and then plug in the keyboard for computer cores. I wouldn't butcher a XEGS to fit the cartridge port, and I lack the skills to make a 'Keyrah' conversion of the keyboard to USB. DB9 ports would be nice. I at least have my imagination skills. If Kevtris reads this: if you ever make a dream computer version of Zimba 3000, please consider the XEGS and its hybrid console/computer design as inspiration.
  20. Pixelboy, I was just thinking the other day about Analogue's future. If the 8 is what many of us think it is (Kevtris's Zimba 3000 without the Genesis/SNES 16 bit cores), with the pocket covering handhelds, there is not much left to do (in my opinion). Maybe a future FPGA chip can price/performance be a viable option to handle Saturn/Dreamcast. The only stone left un-turned would be computers. Like the Mega 65 and Spectrum Next projects, maybe a future product would be an all in one retro computer? If the Pocket is shaped like an OG gameboy, I wonder what divisive design an Analogue computer would take. To avoid Atari/Commodore/Apple wars, maybe the safe option would be IBM, with a Model M keyboard inspiration. Imagine a tiny beam spring keyboard!
  21. I have some flashback 2 consoles laying around with many big round buttons that remind me of IO board buttons...hmmm.
  22. I'm working on a Mister in an Amiga 1200 (keyboard for computer cores), but for a console case, has anyone thought about putting one in a non-working Atari 2600 case? I'd try to rescue the 2600 first, especially if a heavy sixer, but maybe a 4 switch woody or vader. It would be funny to show friends your 'modded' 2600 and fire up the Neo Geo core...
  23. I am most excited to see official Atari paperwork claim that we will be able to play: "Classic Console Emulators: 2500, 5200, XT, Lynx, Jaguar, etc. for download" So the 2600 games will struggle to run and play at imaginary console 2500 speeds? I look forward to playing Atari's legendary "XT" (IBM?) games but a bit sad that XL, XE, or ST games aren't stated. When you rush without 'pwroofreading' you get a forgivable forum post mistake. When it's an official document, you embarrass the company. If I was given a VCS for free, I might put a Pi3 in it.
  24. Sadly for backers, a 'Great Space Coaster' is what people may end up using it for.
  25. I have a BlissBox and wonder if it is worth it to get a Blister board. I am waiting on my Amiga 1200 keyboard to go in my new A1200 case with a keyrah to see how much space I have. It would be great to have SMS controllers or Zipstick (for Commodore, Atari 8-bit) plugged in to the DB9 ports and then have my blissbox or blister board for the other cores. Likely a USB port or two would go to wireless Saturn controllers. As far as the Mister's value, yes, it has it in spades! Let's not forget ROOM (space) saver too. I played at friends' places on a NES, but I was more a Sega nerd. So for me, I'm less nostalgic for NES/SNES hardware (at all), let alone the costs and work to RGB mod many consoles. You can focus on the real original hardware you were nostalgic for to take up desk real estate. I like flash carts that allow save states, but the SNES core is so good I am saving money on a SuperNT and or flash cart, yet enjoy my MegaSG and new MegaSD. Computers are different and I have a real Apple IIGS, C64 and many Atari 8bit because the keyboard key arrangements differ, as does the nostalgic FEEL of them. I can't justify buying russian (or were they considered 'Soviet Union'?) computers that will end up on a closet shelf, but LOVE to fire up the cores and explore. FUTURE SAVINGS! I only have an N64 with an Everdrive because I'm not content with the emulation options but may sell them when if an N64 core arrives as good as the SNES one. I never played N64 at the time. So that leads to FUTURE value. Retro consoles hit the ceiling of functionality (I doubt I will ever be able to play Jaguar games on a N64 but it's looking good someday on MiSTer). I will hold off on buying a jaguar. Heck, I'd be interested in checking out CD-I games but can't justify buying a CD-I. Maybe one day I can load them on MiSTer. The future of Playstation 1 looks bright as well. I'd sell my modded PSOne to avoid cdr issues alone. Maybe my PS2 and 3 I only recently got to test the best way to play PS1 games. I'm too new to my 3DO hardware to know yet if I'd sell it if a core or 'mini' system came out. Let's see how my recapping goes. Other benefits of MiSTer: A MiSTer will never need retrobrighting! If an IBM 5100 core ever releases to perfection, MiSTer might even save the world in 2036!! [Or at least be even more convenient for John Titor, maybe even save him a time travel trip]. How funny would that be if MiSTer saved us from Skynet someday! HAHA! "No John, you don't need to go back to the 1970s for that old clunky thing, here's a MiSTer! It's got Smokemonster's latest IBM 5100 rompack and everything!"
