Space Invaders!!! I like the 2600 version a lot more than the arcade. Also, the 2600 had a great version of Pong.

Wow Joust never looked better!

Let's keep Journey but have different lead singers trying to get to the ship. First you have Gregg Rollie, then Steve Perry, Steve Augeri , and finally Jeff Scott Soto. They have to avoid Neal Schon egos and Disc Jockeys that won't play their new music.

I bought 2 of the defective units from VGLQ and got one working in 10 minutes. The other one, well I did the same thing to it as the first and now it won't even power up. So I bought two more, and once again I was able to repair one quickly, and the other is just spare parts. So for about 20 bucks I got 2 lynxs that work and 2 that I will have to keep trying to fix. At the very least they can be used as spare parts since the screens are near perfect.

The powerup in Vanguard IS Vultan's Theme from Famous Film's Flash Gordon, which was distributed by Universal, not 20th Century Fox.

This was highly entertaining, BUT..... I would have liked to see steadier shots in the beginning. There is no benefit to seeing the shaky TV screen. Inspite of the shaky video it was well done.

Betamax was never a proffesional format!!!! When a TV station or studio refers to Beta they are talking about Sony's proffesional format also called Beta SP. It is not comparable or compatible with Betamax (the home VCR's ). Today there is a digital beta format used by production houses and some news org.'s us something called Beta SX, which is also digital but not the same as digital Beta. Beta is no longer the only game in town, there is serious competition from Panasonic and others with newer digital tape and tapless formats. Beta is still a standard though because when all else fails- every station still has a beta machine or two. Yes this might be TMI but I hasd to set the record straight. Beta video tape recorders are not the same as Betamax video cassette recorders. the difference? about 10,000 bucks

I saw the $450 version at Target today. Not bad- I remember most of the games and they are adapted well. The screen is small compared to an arcade, but the whole machine is miniature so it doesnt seem so small. The controllers are not arcade quality, but they are far better than the namco 4 in one jakks controllers.

"A special place in hell is reserved for the guy that designed: -The Coleco Head To Head (That's nice. Let's whore out the name "Coleco" by making a bad NES-on-a-chip sports games and then package them in replicas of the RCA Studio II controller keypad. Everytime someone buys one of these, I lose a little more of my faith in humanity.)" Too bad this was not posted before I went to Wal- Mart. This is the worst pile of garbage I have bought in my life. When I was a kid I saved up a bunch of money and bought a Cabbage Patch kid. I brought him home and showed him to my friends- they would not stop laughing and as a consequence I ended up abandoning my child and had my sister raise the kid. I felt horrible that day, but would repeat it a thousand times before I would play another piece of garbage from the COLECO head to head. It is being distributed exclusively by walmart.

"It all comes back to Jack Tramiel and Atari Games finding that they could make more money licensing games to the NES as opposed to the 7800. Atari arcade games post 1984 include: Tetris Paperboy Marble Madness Gauntlet Roadblasters Indiana Jones Peter Pack Rat " Jack was never in charge of Atari Games- he had Atari Corporation. They were two seperate companies at the time so all the arcades mentioned above were not Jack's to license. Tramiel was not in the arcade business.

I'll buy anything from RS before I trust the garbage at the dollar store. Considering I am boycotting RS at the present time that means diddly. In the past the RS switch box has worked fine- no more interference than any other box, but the way to go is the direct connect method.

Atari Force also had some ads, in addition to great characters ans interesting stories.

]Go ahead and be insulting if it explains what the fuck you're talking about. Thanks for telling me that Atari made coin-ops, I had no idea! What's your point? Have you noticed that you are a bit cocky? Why? I can't believe you have no idea what I was referring to with my arcade theory. Lets say that that Space Invaders was a popular arcade and that it may have been a reason that some people decided to walk into an arcade in the late 70's. They might see another game, perhaps made by a company other than Taito and plunk a couple quarters into it too, so Taito having a popular game was good for all game manufacturers. Why would Atari decide to crash the arcade market so early? Factor in the other theories listed in the thread and the answer is probably a combo of many.
-
"Apples and oranges. Why would Atari care about Taito losing money?" I'll try and not be insulting, but ATARI was a leader in coin op video games back in the day, plus SI was a good port to begin with.
-
One more reason, though it may just be a conspiracy. If home system games looked as good as their arcade counterparts then why would anyone pluck a quarter in the machine? It would kill the arcade market as we know it. Thank goodness that will never happen!! oh.......wait

Austin computer works is off limits! I got dibs!. Actually they recently stopped selling their old machines (Atari 2600, 8-bit, Commodore) as they are going to be moving. You can still see the pile of donations crammed in a large storage bin behind the counter- but they would not sell anything to me. they said it might go back for sale after they move. When will that be? well they claim as early as January, but this was in August when they told me!

I'm not trying to be a punk, but the shipping prices at Radio F are absolutely riciculous. It's cheaper to buy in smaller lots ?

I've used Sega master system controllers for years and never had to modify them. I still prefer teh pro-line though.

A friend of mine found his Darth Vader hiding in his parents attic. We cleaned it up, hooked it up and boy did we think we were in business. The picture is beautiful and the sound is... a problem. Yes we can hear sounds, but only half of them. For example in Asteroids we can hear the thrust and explosion sounds, but not the music or the fire sounds. In Frogger the opening music has only one voice- the melody- with no accompanyment. Same goes for Crystal Castles. All the games check out in my jr. Does this sound familiar to anyone here? Where should I start to troubleshoot? After a few minutes we started to hear the accompanyment on Frogger, but it was faint. Also, the power switch will need to be replaced as it is a little on the fritz. Thanks in advance

I like how they compare computer Pole Position to the VCS Enduro.

SOLID SNOW WHITE ATARI 2600 TELE SYSTEM--It's a fake!!
rexreed replied to 64squares's topic in Atari 2600
The lettering next to the switches does not appear to be painted. The white on silver color scheme was never real looking. -
Are you a snob, when it comes to Sears TeleGames Carts?
rexreed replied to Kenwood's topic in Atari 2600
To the ones asking about Sears heavy sixers- yes you can tell without opening them up- start by looking to see where is was made. If it says it was made in the states then it is a heavy! -
Are you a snob, when it comes to Sears TeleGames Carts?
rexreed replied to Kenwood's topic in Atari 2600
Since all the Sears games were made by Atari I have no problem with them. Many of my Atari cartridges had no art anyway so they are just as "lame" as the Tele-Games label. Growing up I had Target fun, Tank Plus, Maze, and Race as well as a Tele-Games Heavy Sixer. I luv Sears. -
Announcement: New set of Shirts: "Atari Duds"
rexreed replied to Atari Charles's topic in Atari 2600
No offense but the shirts look pretty cheap, not the shirts really but the images. -
http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/2004-06-...etrogames_x.htm Did any of you hear about this? Some people like to play old games instead of the new ones! WoW! I like the pic- even has an old 800 on the bottom shelf. I hope this doesn't raise the price of cartriges.
