  1. 'Alien Brigade' and 'Planet Smashers' would make a nice duo. Both games mention each other in their respective endings.
  2. I have Haunted House: Cryptic Graves, though I barely played it because my PC at the time wasn't very good for gaming. The game released in November 2014 and was pulled March 2015, so it was sold for only a few months. I wonder what happened behind the scenes that caused the game to be discontinued to soon. While I didn't care for the cartoony visuals of the 2010 game, I did like how it served as a sequel to the 2600 original and I really appreciated how they expanded on the lore.
  3. The article mentions third-party titles are also coming (I'm assuming for the 7800). I wonder which publishers Atari has partnered with ? Bandai-Namco is a good one as there's a few well-known games on the 7800 such as Ms. Pac-Man & Galaga. WB Games is another good one since they have all the properties previously owned by Midway such as Joust & Robotron (both also available on 7800).
  4. Out of all the IPs they sold post-bankruptcy, Alone in the Dark & Test Drive are the two biggest losses (IMO). Those names are still recognizable and a fanbase still exists for them. I do agree they should branch out and create new, original IP. With everything they sold off since, what do they have left besides the '72-'96 Atari consumer properties? That report still mentions owning over "200 franchises". I bet they also include the numerous classic compilations of the same old games in that number. Minimum was an neat-looking game. The blocky aesthetic fits perfectly with how consumers view Atari today (a retro brand). I can't find much info on that one. I assume the game's been dead for a while now.
  5. I'm curious how this 50th anniversary collection will differ from Atari Vault, a compilation that's been out since 2016. Maybe the package will be more like Intellivision Lives! on PC, with developer interviews, a history section, retro commercials, etc. (and the games to play, of course). I wonder who's handling development. Maybe Code Mystics again. Still, I'm looking forward to more info on that. The brief description of "Atari Mania" reminds me of a WarioWare-style game they published in 2007 called Hot Pixel. It also reminds me of that really cool Atari database website (which I frequent regularly lol)
  6. Achievements would so cool to have! It'll definitely provide more replay value. Where did you read that this feature was coming? I would love to see the following games receive this feature on VCS: Atari Vault Danger Scavenger Ato Centipede: Recharged (already there, but in-game only) Sir Lovelot Missile Command: Recharged (I 100%ed it on Steam, but would do it again on VCS) Frog Hop (I already 100%ed it, but would do it again for achievements) Sigi
  7. Yeah, I was really shocked when I read the news back in 2018. This came several months after they successfully crowdfunded the VCS, which made no sense as the console would need first-party content. A new AitD would've made so much sense as an exclusive title for the system. With DOSbox on VCS now, they could've had the original trilogy on here. It would've been a perfect release for October. But nope. THQNordic owns it now and they're not doing shit with it.
  8. Besides Tempest 2000, I can't think of any other DOS game that can be added by Atari. Those Hasbro era remakes (Centipede, Pong: The Next Level, etc.) ran on Windows 95/98. Maybe DOSbox could be for third-party games that can be played with a controller, kinda like how GOG.com sells classic PC games that utilize DOSbox.
  9. Other first-party 7800 games we could see on the VCS: Centipede Asteroids Alien Brigade Dark Chambers RealSports Baseball Planet Smashers Fatal Run Motor Psycho Ninja Golf Food Fight Meltdown Scrapyard Dog Sentinel All games above are listed in Atari's IP catalogue. If they partner with Bandai Namco, we could see some high-profile games added: Ms. Pac-Man Pole Position 2 Xevious Dig Dug Galaga
  10. I wonder if a re-release of Midnight Mutants is possible. That's the perfect 7800 game to play this month.
  11. I just bought Desert Falcon. It plays really well. I'm glad the 2600 & 7800 versions are available on VCS. Now we just need the 8-bit computer version lol
  12. I already added a friend on there. It's a really neat feature and I love that we have profiles. I just wish we could actually view our own though. The on-screen keyboard is cumbersome to me when messaging, but thankfully a physical keyboard works just fine.
  13. I wonder if they plan on reworking their other mobile titles to release on VCS. Night Driver Mobile looked really neat but it never made it's way to the Google Play store in the U.S. (not to my knowledge, at least). Ninja Golf Mobile never left "Early Access" and nothing else has been done with that one. I'd like to have those two make their way unto the VCS (without microtransactions, of course).
  14. They seem to have updated their IP catalogue again this month. The one I saved from this passed Spring doesn't have Miner 2049er listed. Same with Bounty Bob. I wonder which company Infogrames absorbed to gain ownership of those two IPs. Or maybe they are recent acquisitions ? If they owned those two all this time, I wonder why they weren't included in the third Atari Flashback volume, which included 5200 games.
  15. They may not be listing everything they own. Prior to selling off 'Drakkhen', 'Glover' and 'V-Rally' (and many others in recent years) Atari never listed them in their IP catalog. I save every IP catalog they publish going back to 2015 (prior to selling off the aforementioned games) and none of them were ever listed. AFAIK, only four classic Atari IPs were sold and that was during the 2013 bankruptcy: Battlezone, Math Gran Prix, Robo-Squash, and Warbirds. The latter two went to Tommo (Link). Page 74 has the IP list. I'm glad that man is no longer running the company.
  16. Those games I mentioned were available on a variety of hardware (SNES, PS1, PC, etc.) In 1997, Infogrames acquired Philips Multimedia BV, the gaming unit of Koninklijke Philips N.V. I assume all of their gaming assets were held by that subsidiary, including the Odyssey/Videopac IP. I never knew Atari SA had that stuff either until I visited Subvert's website a few years ago. IMO, the Odyssey/Videopac IP is historically significant and I wished Atari actually did something with them (a classic collection would've been nice) instead of sitting on them for so many years.
  17. Oh yeah, I have those games on PSP in 'Atari Classics Evolved'. I enjoyed the fresh visuals in 'Missile Command'. I found the idea of shooting lightening interesting. I wasn't too into 'Warlords' though (graphically, that is). The 'Missile Command' game is available on the newer Xbox consoles. I may pick it up for the achievements.
  18. I love the Steam library cover art. Source: https://steamdb.info/app/1714180/
  19. Fred Chesnais took over Blue Bay's shares of Atari in February 2013 (source). The sale of the 'Battlezone' IP occurred in July that year (Source). After the sale of 'Battlezone', Atari SA/Infogrames wanted to break up the rest of the Atari classic catalogue and sell it piecemeal. Thankfully that didn't happen.
  20. 'Battlezone' was split from the rest of the Atari classic catalogue sometime prior to 2013 so I understand why that one was sold off by itself. 'Alone in the Dark' is but one example of IP sold off post-bankruptcy. 'Drakkhen', 'Glover', 'Hogs of War' (among others) all went in later years after 2013. It would've been really cool to have new games based on these IPs for VCS. Sure there's not much brand recognition there, but at least it would've meant more content for their console. They were also the owners of the Odyssey/Videopac IP until it was sold to Subvert Ltd a few years ago. I would've loved a classic Odyssey 2 collection on the VCS (Hell, even on Steam). Their casino initiative in Africa seemed very sleazy. They were operating in developing nations (Liberia & Kenya, for example) with populations dealing with gambling addiction (Link, Link). That hotel idea seems silly to me, but we'll see how that turns out.
  21. My order for Centipede was 8564. I made the purchase yesterday around 3PM EST.
  22. Atari is always touting owning over 200 IPs. Maybe that number was true at one point in time, but since they keep selling off games, 147 seems more accurate. BTW, Atari only mentions two Jaguar games in their IP catalog (Tempest 2K & Missile Command 3D). I wonder what happened to Fight for Life, Trevor McFur, Club Drive, etc. The copyright info on the back of those games' respective packaging only mentions Atari.
  23. I noticed that too. Strange that the mouse only functions in the menu ? I hope they add full mouse support in a future update. Like Missile Command, it plays better with a mouse.
  24. Wow, I remember when those "newer" versions came out on Xbox 360. I actually liked the revamped graphic style, but I do agree the particle effects were excessive. The worst offender IMO was their Asteroids/Asteroids Deluxe update. The explosions made it hard to see the direction the tiny rock chunks were going.
  25. I played the game for about 40-50 minutes so far. I've already unlocked several achievements in the VCS version (I wasn't expecting achievements on VCS). Controls well with the modern controller. I'll try it out using the classic joystick soon.
