If anybody has either, can you send me a copy of them? Thanks in advance.

The Giant List of Programmers only mentions that he did the Datasoft game, Night Raiders (Atari 800). Perhaps he was doing conversions for the 800 and/or Apple II?

I haven't had much luck in getting the Starpath games to run on Z26. Can someone copy-and-paste the command line that they use?

[ I could never beat Fireworld because there's an error in the on-line solution and I don't feel like solving it on my own. I hate that game...]
Russ Perry's solution is indeed correct, though I think it's impossible to uncover all the clues in a single game, since the difficulty ramps up too high by the time you reach the last few.

Ah - right you are! My mistake. At least I remembered it was a Coleco cart

I know years ago Jerry Greiner found a production-labeled Ladybug casing, so I wouldn't be so quick to count out the possibility of the game existing...

Most of these tricks (and many more) can be found on my Easter egg site.
Btw, my 2600 contest is still running!

It looks and plays very well! Only complaint would be with the sound "dept", which is a bit lacking. Still, for only being 4K, it's amazing! Pesco is basically the same game.

I've tried Stella and Z26, but for some reason the secret kingdom isn't accessible with them.

You mean Sean Kelly is going?
Pffft. . . maybe I can get a refund for my airline tickets.
-
The PB catalog had a detailed (real?) screen shot/picture, so a proto may exist.

Check out the Mountain King page on my Easter egg site for more info, and a link to Tony Roy's awesome MK site (which has detailed instructions on how to reach the secret kingdom).

What is to stop them from going after every other site that has 'Atari' in the name, such as atari2600.com (which is a business site, unlike atarilabs or atariage)?

I have both those Stella at 20 tapes, and I don't recall that being Tod's reason for Pac-Man. I believe he stated that Atari only gave him 4K to work with. He had a better kernel written (which ended up in Ms. Pac), but by the time Atari offered him 8K, it was too late into the project to incorporate it.

I believe it was quite intentional on Ed Salvo's part due in part that there are 2 very distinct methods to reaching it, and there are specific areas that increase your time and score. If it's not, then it's an incredible piece of luck that it happened to be there

I'm 99% sure the PAL versions are the same as the tournament versions (there was no PAL Waterworld). From what little info I found, the final contest was to involve the winner from each game in a playoff with all 4 tournament versions. I haven't found any info to suggest that Atari was going to have a special game made for the last contest (but if would have made more sense if they did. If someone had won more than 1 of the contests, that would have given them a distinct advantage over the others.)
Btw, my article can be found at the 2600 Connection site.

Wasn't there a software/hardware package for the 8-bitters called the Atari Lab Module/Kit, or something like that? And so far, all Infrogrames has done with the Atari name brand is put it on water bottles.

I agree - frying does not produce completely "random" results. Many games have very predictable behavior when "fried".
Perhaps if there was some way to hook up a break-out box of sorts, you could see what exactly is happening to the code during frying, and then incorporate the results into an emulator option.

I remember AR:The City Excellent RPG! Wow, that brings back some memories.
The whole AR series was going to be huge, if I remember (4 games? 6?). I think there was a C-64 version of City (and Dungeon? Any others?) but I never played it.

With the new movie trilogy coming out, it'd be nice to see this one surface.
-
Without a doubt, it's based on Astro Blaster. Other coin-op 'inspired' Activision games are Kaboom (Atari Avalanche) and Dragster (Atari Drag Race)

If Mattel couldn't allow any flickering, then what happened with games like Astroblast and Kool-Aid Man? Objects don't just blink...they disappear completely!

"Epoxy" Style Prototypes
in Atari 2600

I'd guess it's (epoxy) just a cheaper way of making a limited run of carts. Unless you're ordering a (very) large quantity of ROMS, the cost would probably be prohibitive. As to why Atari just didn't make all the boards that way, maybe the epoxy method isn't as reliable/durable over time?
