    Hello all from Dallas, TX, home of the Oasis Radio station (New Age and Lite Jazz station that is no more as of a month ago), kept alive in tribute in the Newton MessagePad Servers!

    Angers me that the replacement Joysticks (made in China) cannot make it through a few games of Blue Max without breaking.

      Thanks for the suggestion.  I know there are multiple makers of joysticks out there.  Few seem to get the stick portion of the joystick right for durability.  The Flashback sticks of rigid plastic that screwed on... breaks where it screws on.   These and others the base of the controllers are made so small and flimsy it is no wonder they broke.

       

      These are great for someone who wants to collect this stuff.  Show off a game or two to a friend of "what was" and pack it all away.  But a lot of joystick makers just don't get the serious gamer who are playing to win, hours and hours of gaming against increasingly difficult foes.  Vintage sticks seemed to understand that and they last years. Why mess with perfection?

      I have a basket of various 2600 controllers.  I find some work better than others for certain games.

      For most games I'm using an old Suncom Slik Stick I bought off eBay for maybe $15.  

      I find it sometimes gives a false UP in Frogger, and has laggy input in Q*Bert, but other games it works great...

      In those cases I fall back on a Hyperkin Trooper for games with mostly cardinal directions (like Ms. Pacman) or a Hyperkin Ranger for games that are free range like Missile Command.

      I think Slik Stiks are Fantastic! (I also use)  Europads,  FB controllers, Genesis controllers too...And of course Edladdin for the True Luxury!!  I also sometimes adapt a PS2 Arcade controller (HORI) and it works very well but left handed...

      True, this has been the go to.  Kinda consolidated it all nicely into one place.

       

      There are a few places I know of.  For starters, quite a few Facebook forums for Atari.

      I see some activity on Atari.org.  A very dated and unsecure site sadly.  😕

      It was created by people who migrated over after NintendoAge was purchased and shut down.  There is a large group of regular posters over there and while the interest typically skews a bit more towards Nintendo and Japanese systems, the users have a lot in common.  There isn't near as much in the way of development and programming discussion though.

      The danger is always there.  Sometimes things happen.   And for the adventurer that is part of the thrill, to go to such places, dare such dangers, and return.   And most of the time we do.   But sometimes luck runs out.

       

      Ultimately I salate the daring of such adventurers.

      I certainly wouldn't have gotten into that thing!  Not Safety Rated,  controlled with a BlueTooth Controller!  Yeah BlueTooth!  That crappy idea whereby you can lose signal at any time for any reason!!

      Zool!  I was gonna try that game on either SNES or Genesis,  or maybe Evercade one of these days...But when I try to find info on it,  my PC just growls and says,  "There is no Dana,  Only ZOOL"   (weird)

      So currently on world 4 (Tool World) and just loving this game.

       

      It's like they listened to what people said were crap about Zool games, didn't do that, and did the things that people liked about Zool.   Lovely.  :D

       

      It would be as if they gave multiple hits for Bubsy.   (Hint hint Atari....)
