Watching "Blind Date".
Bruce Willis, Phil Hartman, Kim Basinger, John Larroquette. Not to mention Stanley Jordan, and a mediocre movie set in the late 80s, I feel I've gone back into another time.
Not a great movie, but strangely immersed.

New Rank: Star Commander: Class 1 in Star Raiders (Atari 800) today!!

I loaded my first mp3 files on a Starpath Supercharger (2600). Was awesome!

Awesome. I have been looking for Supercharger resources, and so far I found the binaries that Nukey Shay modified a few years back, the Worship the Woodgrain CD archive, and I found the makewav binary site: http://web.archive.org/web/20090605074606/http://members.cox.net/rcolbert/makebin.htm
Any other resources or archives out there with already converted binaries either to work on the Supercharger or in wav or mp3 format?

Goodbye Fry's, hello Micro Center.

Fry's was pretty cool when I first went to one, 20+ years ago. I looked forward to visiting the stores and looking at all of the stuff I couldn't afford (but wanted to buy). As Radio Shack deteriorated, Fry's became one of the few retail stores where you could buy stuff for electronics projects. They had a huge selection so you could compare different brands and had competitive prices. My HDTV was bought there, and I got a great deal on it.
That was in 2007.
Over subsequent years, the stores deteriorated. There were fewer products, the displays fell apart, demos didn't work, entire sections weren't restocked, and the employees just seemed to stop caring. I don't recall the last time I went into a Fry's. I certainly didn't buy anything the last several times I went in either, because they didn't have what I was looking for.
Online retailers often get blamed for the death of brick-and-mortar retailers like Fry's, Radio Shack, Sears and Toys 'R' Us. But if you really look at how the stores were run, and what a miserable experience in-person shopping became, they did it to themselves.
The nearest Micro Center to me is in Tustin. 85 miles away, on the other side of Los Angeles. Not visiting anytime soon.
-
Micro Center opened here about 12 years ago. Still appears to be busy and doing OK, thankfully!
I'm so spoiled with their SD and MicroSD cards at the cash register. I get a new one every trip just because they are so cheap. I am flush with 32/64GB micro SDs.
Not to mention the only place where you need "X" cable or part. They will have it. Not even Radio Shack would compare back in the day. Have even gotten fiber network cables there during a work emergency.

Angers me that the replacement Joysticks (made in China) cannot make it through a few games of Blue Max without breaking.

Thanks for the suggestion. I know there are multiple makers of joysticks out there. Few seem to get the stick portion of the joystick right for durability. The Flashback sticks of rigid plastic that screwed on... breaks where it screws on. These and others the base of the controllers are made so small and flimsy it is no wonder they broke.
These are great for someone who wants to collect this stuff. Show off a game or two to a friend of "what was" and pack it all away. But a lot of joystick makers just don't get the serious gamer who are playing to win, hours and hours of gaming against increasingly difficult foes. Vintage sticks seemed to understand that and they last years. Why mess with perfection?
-
I have a basket of various 2600 controllers. I find some work better than others for certain games.
For most games I'm using an old Suncom Slik Stick I bought off eBay for maybe $15.
I find it sometimes gives a false UP in Frogger, and has laggy input in Q*Bert, but other games it works great...
In those cases I fall back on a Hyperkin Trooper for games with mostly cardinal directions (like Ms. Pacman) or a Hyperkin Ranger for games that are free range like Missile Command.

Good morning this is the morning news I'm Doctor Clu and you're not.In the news, for the first time in 28 years, Atari is releasing games again.
Starting with Yrs' Return, Aquaventure, and Saboteur. Atari is also
re-releasing classic titles such as Warlords, Super Breakout, and Adventure
in their 50th anniversary limited edition. When asked about the new game releases in the beautiful packages loaded with
posters, patches, and other feelies, they were asked why the boxes were
bigger. Spokesperson from Atari answered "Well, a lot of the Atari fans are
in their 50s and 60s now and their eyesight is bad, so we made it bigger."When also asked what inspired them to release cartridges at the 50th
anniversary spokesperson also answered "Well, we realized most of the fans
probably won't be around for the 100th, so there is that...."So that fans are not left out, fans can celebrate 100th anniversary pricing
early as the cartridges are being sold for $99.99 each. The Atari XP line of games can be bought at atari.com... and a few other clicks.

Let's see,
The PCBs came put in backwards
The labels are crap
The font on the boxes is too small to match your other Atari games (with the Atari Logo coming out in the wrong spot)
The games have sometimes been known to crash (when they do play)
I gotta admit Nutari did a better job on this than I thought they would!

No static at all.

Americans can't switch from
pounds to kilograms overnight.
That would cause mass confusion.

We Canadians officially made the switch back in the 1970s and we _still_ used a mixed system. Packaged goods are mostly metric sizes, of course (e.g. milk comes in 1, 2, or 4 litre cartons, but butter comes in 1 lb blocks) and highway distances are measured in kilometers.
Most everything else is mixed:
I have no idea what my height is in centimeters, but in terms of temperature I use Celsius. When I go to the deli, I ask for 1/4 pound of whatever, and the clerk clearly understands my request. Most recipes use cups or tablespoons as a measurement unit.
-
As a Canadian I find I use both equally well. I notice that there is a tendency to use metric for more precise measurements, but imperial for less accurate numbers.
For example, if someone asked the distance to another town you might say 44 kilometers, but if it were a rough guess you'd say "About 30 miles".

Not jumping ship* I have this question:
What other forums are good for Atari news and conversation?

True, this has been the go to. Kinda consolidated it all nicely into one place.
There are a few places I know of. For starters, quite a few Facebook forums for Atari.
I see some activity on Atari.org. A very dated and unsecure site sadly. 😕
This one looks active https://atari-forum.com/
Club VCS... looks cool.. https://forums.atari.io/forum/131-vcs-topics/
And back that up a bit, the other forums.. https://forums.atari.io/
There's lots of Atari out there, just curious what other places other people find fun to frequent?

VideoGameSage: Forums - Video Game Sage
It was created by people who migrated over after NintendoAge was purchased and shut down. There is a large group of regular posters over there and while the interest typically skews a bit more towards Nintendo and Japanese systems, the users have a lot in common. There isn't near as much in the way of development and programming discussion though.

Just hit 6th places out of 1,000 players on the PS4 leaderboard of Bubsy!
