While searching for new Bubsy material, which has been easier than you might imagine, this time I tried the yahoo image search and found it had one feature I liked over the Google image search engine: The ability to keep looking for images. Not just one continue at the end of the page but multiple continues.

And then I found a treasure chest, the last one being the ruby of the bunch.

Here is an image gallery of Tumblr gems that were all in the gallery of "accolade"...

I’ve done Bubsy before; he was one of the earliest nomarios and still one of the most popular! …but the way I’ve drawn has changed so much since the blog began, and he was one that I really wanted to update. I hope y'all like Bubsy enough to get him twice. Y'all probably don’t."

    What could possibly go wrong?

I consider myself someone with good taste. People constantly tell me about how stupid they were as children, and how they liked the dumbest things. Generally, what I liked when I was very young, I still find likeable now. I never use the phrase “when I was a kid,” because I draw no distinctions. “Then” does not feel appreciably different from “now.”

I suppose no one pass through time unscathed by embarrassment, though, and I will now admit that I once thought Bubsy was pretty cool. Maybe it’s because my exposure to video games was strictly limited to what my friends owned and rented, or maybe it’s because it was the nineties and there was time for cats, but I played a lot of the first two Bubsy games, and I did so enthusiastically.

Today’s Claymation is sloppy and terrible. I should feel deeply ashamed for being associated with it. In short, I think I’ve captured the essence of this little idiot very well."

Yes, you captured the "idiot" quite well. Don't worry, only sharing it here where only us Bubsy fans go, you're secret's safe with us.

So a month a so back Sponge Fox (Deviant Art name, BubRayBobCatt here on Atariage) asked me when I would feature a Deviant Art and comics entry. Well, here is a compilation of ones I've found over the past two or so months. But to kick this off how about one from Sponge Fox herself?

I also want to mention that in the last month Noxid throughout the month of May presented Bubsy facts which were creative, informative, and sometimes a bit creepy, but I would like to feature them here one day for archiving. You can find his work here...
    https://twitter.com/nbNoxid

And on, on with the comics!!!

"Bubsy Yamaneko"_by_spongefox. Since Bubsy is a Japanese mountain cat in Japan, he would not be a Bobcat. He would in fact have a tail. So I always love it when Sponge Fox takes a moment to acknowledge this:

First off, hope you had a great Christmas and Happy New Year.

I can think of no better present than playing a game of Bubsy with a Lara Croft version of Bubsy. A friend of mine when playing Legacy said he liked to play female characters. The reason why was if he had to play the game for hours on end he wanted to look at the back of a woman rather than a dude. I totally get that.

So here we get to see the scenery of Bubsy 3D improved greatly with the Bubsy going from a Bobcat to a hot woman. Works for me.

Here are shots of the mod to the Tomb Raider (III) game...

This game variant was shown on YouTube here:

Here at the Bubsy Fan Blog we are liking the positives of Bubsy more or less going forward. I will admit, I was actually glad to see a review that highlights some of the positive aspects of the game.

Yes. There are are actually positive aspects. And I have to especially agree with number four below:

    1) Comments Bubsy makes.
    2) Swimming Stages
    3) Bubsy 3D references Bubsy 1 and Bubsy 2.
    4) Great animations.

    Check out the review here...

Hope you are having a great holiday season and more to come!

I received the two Bubsy Russian games (Bubsy and Bubsy 2) in the mail today. The cases are so small and cute, just barely bigger than the game cartridge itself.

More details on this in October, but in the meantime, here is Bubsy Bobcat written in Russian!!

Another hobby of mine is the Fiero car by Pontiac and they would have these license plate frames for when the car survived the first 100,000 miles known as the "100,000 Mile Club". And I remember when my car entered the "200,000 Mile Club"

The Bubsy blog started sometime in June 8, 2008 is now entering the ...
    100,000 Visits Club.

Now at this time I have made 87 entries, and maybe read over my blog entries after posted. So say I read each blog four times each, that is 387 times I have looked at this blog. That means that 99,613 times were other people.

Thank you everyone! (blowing kisses) MUH!! MUH!! MUH!!

This is a good time to say that it all started with the Bubsy fan page of my friend Bluies that opened my eyes to the rest of the Bubsy world and what was beyond the Bubsy game on the Atari Jaguar:
    http://www.bluies-island.com/BubsyHQ/

And there was a thread we've added to over the years here on Atariage "Bubsy - Your Opinions" which was fun to read all the exploration of the Fractured Furry Tales, and when I finally beat that damned lobster on December 17, 2006. Yes, that was a day for the calendar. That damned lobster on level 12 is just horrible to beat and took me six years to build up the nerve to beat him.
    http://atariage.com/forums/topic/85838-bubsy-your-opinions/

So all this to say thanks for getting us to the 100,000 views with all the contributions, comments, fan art, and decompiling of the Bubsy rom for the Jaguar. So what do we do to get things kicked off to move on into the future? More FAN ART!!

First off Bubsy as Rocket Raccoon by Justinanddennnis. Really cool since I absolutely loved Guardians of the Galaxy.

Here we have Parappa Bond_and_Dr Bubsy 007 by Justinanddennnis. Loved the style of this one.

Pop Fizz d Bubsy by justinanddennnis. LOL! Bubsy becoming a Godzilla. Love it.

Good work JustinandDennis! Keep up the creative Bubsy stuff!

So let's see, I've collected other Bubsy items over the past two months for the big 100,000 celebration. Well, ok, not really, I got busy as usual, but it was a good cover. So here in no particular order are other Bubsy pictures I thought were interesting lately:

Good art. I am verring away from the more negative things being said and shown about Bubsy out there since 100,000 hits is showing that there is more than just me that finds Bubsy fascinating. So what interested me about this picture? Well, for starters they really bulked out Mario and left Bubsy.. well.. Bubsy. You don't have Bubsy fighting a iddy biddy Mario from Donkey Kong or ever Paper Mario, but this.. well, I don't know what in the hell happened to Mario. But good background art which takes place on one of the water slides of the first Bubsy game. Yes, art done not about the infamous Bubsy 3D, but the first (and most would say actually good) Bubsy game. And of course I've noticed that Bubsy is often thrown in pictures with Mario and Sonic. You know how it is... Mario, Sonic... and (cough cough) that other guy. And make no mistake there are MANY MANY game mascots that we can't even name, but oh boy people can name Bubsy! Well, as my friend said, if you can't be famous be infamous and Bubsy does that with style.

Hey Overbuff Mario... I think Bubsy is ready for a rematch!!

Over the years we have have seen Bubsy in other virtual environments such as Second Life and even as a Mii on the Ninento Wii. And I am happy to say we now have a Bubsy for MINECRAFT!!

    Speaking of the Wii...

A fairly funny article of "What if Game Characters were Sold in a Pet Shop"
    http://www.gamesradar.com/what-if-video-game-characters-were-sold-pet-shop/

[And we quote for archival purposes]

    "Bubsy (from the Bubsy series)
Bubsy is quite a character. A Bobcat full of expression (and wearing a wonderfully endearing T-shirt with an exclamation mark on it), he's a totally lovable little scamp who does amazing things like jumping and gliding, and absolutely loves playing with balls of wool.
What the pet shop assistant told us: "Honestly, I can't even give this one away. We started off at £25, then dropped it to £10. Then we tried offering him as a free bonus if you bought anything in the shop. Seriously, we have fish tank ornaments that cost 20p and still no-one will take him. It would be madness to offer £20 store credit if you take the damn thing away but, to be honest, mate, that's where it's heading."

Here we have my favorite Bubsy cosplay to date. Even surpassing my own. Yes, she's cuter....

    THE WRAP UP-------------------
Some have asked why I like Bubsy as much as I do. Well, it hit me tonight, Bubsy is the King of Lame, he is a looser, and yet you have to admit he is good at being what he does, and that is, being Bubsy.

I mean he is ball of fur and uncool, and yet he just barrels forward, dieing left and right and coming back with his many lives, unbothered by the many things that can kill him, or even those, like Arnold, that simply want to not be around him. And yet Bubsy continues to think of himself as a superstar.

Not a bad lesson for anyone when you think about it. Bubsy is so uncool that he loops the block twice achieving enough uniqueness to be remembered and to actually be coo.. no... can't say that, but he achieves being Bubsy.

In January 2007 I uploaded a video to YouTube of Bubsy 3D. The response has been unreal.

The video currently has 101,851 views and 822 comments. Face it: Winner or looser... loved or hated... there is something about the Bobcat that provokes a response both good and bad with people.

Most that liked Bubsy seem to have good memories playing Bubsy as a kid.
For me one such person, and how it really all started, was I was at Trader's Village in Texas and a Video Game store had a booth out there. I was looking for games for an Atari Jaguar I had bought sometime in 1999. So this was about 2000-ish. The teenager working there said "Well, we have Bubsy for the Jaguar. I liked the game on the Genesis so I would suggest that."

Took Fractured Furry Tales to my friend's place, and played with my friend's kids when I would hang out over there. At the time the oldest was about 4, the next 2, and the other recently born. I was getting my a$$ handed to me at first but I didn't notice. I would stop Bubsy and the kids would laugh as Bubsy would put his hands on the screen, and then laugh some more when he would knock on the glass.

I would run Bubsy into tunnels and we would make car racing sounds as the Bubsy was transported from one tunnel to the next, and then make breaking sounds when we reached the other side.

And then I would have blast running Bubsy into stuff. They would always laugh at that one.

I believe they are 19, 17, and 15 at this point. I still hang out with them, and their 8 year old brother likes for me to hook up the old Jaguar from time to time.

What great times. And I look forward to seeing what other fan arts will be created, and even Bubsy games, as we saw with the weird but kinda fun games Rip Van Bubsy and the Bubsy 3D game at the museum. Hopefully we'll see more creative stuff.

As Bubsy said in at least two games (Bubsy 1 and FFT)
"Keep it up! Just Keep it up!"

    * This also dedicated to my cat Pika who is this weird 20 something abnysian/Tabby cat that is probably the closest thing I'll ever have to a Bobcat. Someday I will put a shirt on him and take a picture. Oh yes....

** As I started this entry tonight the blog had 99,991 views, and now we have 100,019. YOWZA!

In the month of July there was a review made of my favorite Bubsy game, Fractured Furry Tales for the Atari Jaguar. It is a hard game, and basically all reviews I have seen for it for those playing for the first time generally hate it.

So the game reviewer "Games I F*cking Hate" was going to town on the Fractured Furry Tales, and some points were good, and others I was watching and thinking "Yeh I remember when that was a problem", "I remember when that confused me", etc. Ahh memories back when I wasn't awesome at Fractured Furry Tales.

But then something totally awesome happened exactly four minutes into the video. (if you don't mind some extreme language). They made a BUBSY MOD for DOOM!!

Yes, on the Atari Jaguar one of my other favorite all time games is also Doom, so this was basically the meeting of two games I like.

    Check it out.
If you like Bubsy, you'll get a good chuckle.
If you hate Bubsy, you'll get a good chuckle.

    Enjoy the fireworks!!!

Yesterday I had good news, but I wasn't sure how things would go with ebay. Sometime ago I found the Russian Bubsy art, which can be found on the cover of this game:

I think out of the many Bubsy pictures I've seen, this one was my favorite. Though I find it curious that the Ballzooka, not in the first Bubsy game, would be on the cover of the first Bubsy game. Of course the truth in advertising laws need not apply in Russia apparently. OR... the Russian first game has a Ballzooka reverse engineered into it.

    Would be awesome, but doubtful.

Then even more surprising was this Russian edition for the second Bubsy game:

That was a pleasant surprise. I have seen other country games for Bubsy's first game (Australian, Japanese...), but hardly ever for the second game. Unless of course these are fakes, which is also possible.

Anyway, I'll know more in 30 to 45 days. A long shipping time, but honestly, I'm just happy to have the above two pictures off eBay to add to this Bubsy blog. I've known of the first Russian game for years and happy to finally see a copy come available.

    More in октябрь... er..October!

PS: For a good laugh, someone made a fictional account of Bubsy 4 being made by Capcom.

Hello Bubsy fans! I was celebrating Bubsy's 21st birthday so hard it took me two months to get over the hangover. So this is posted after the fact.

No not really. But not to worry, I have been collecting some interesting new pictures from around the inter-webs, and I will have new Bubsy purchases to look at, in about a month or two. But as I was crui'zin Atariage I wondered, what have other blogs said about the Bubster? Well, aside from "Hey look at my collection" where Bubsy is casually listed, here are some interesting comments made in the past:
IMPLANTgames Podcast Episode 21: Bubsy? What's that?!
Posted by Austin on February 29th, 2012, they talk about the Jaguar version of Bubsy in a podcast!

A Plea to the Jaguar Community and a Call to Action
Posted by kgenthe, 24 March 2011

"So here we are today. Coming up on the 2 year anniversary of the Jaguar's renaissance. Things are moving slowly, but I believe the community is slowly moving towards a new era of sharing and discovery. We've seen a few interesting hacks, including extracting Art and Voice files from the bubsy rom, and some work disassembling the code. Perhaps someday we'll have Bubsy hacks with tweaked controls, new sprites, and other things I can't even imagine."

That was three years ago and I'm glad kgenthe noticed the efforts that we were able to do to uncompile and peek into the Bubsy code. I am happy to report that a bit more has been found. Curt Vendel sent some source code for Bubsy that he unearthed and honestly, I think after building up some nerve and handling a few things in life I am ready to tackle that source code and see if it does anything.
I hope one day Bubsy can be tweaked with new themes, better control, and other games, maybe even one day porting at least the original Bubsy. What was hilarious, looking at what Curt sent me, some of the original Sega code was there and looks like was ported to the Jaguar. Even after talking to developers it is still unknown on why Bubsy I was not originally ported to the Jaguar, but who cares, the Jaguar got a unique game not on any other platform (save perhaps emulation).

The rest of the blog entries were basically as I said "I have the following games" and Bubsy was listed, or Bubsy was listed followed by something non-complimentary for Bubsy, which I decided not to add.

And that is something I thought I would mention going forward with this blog. At one time Bubsy material was hard to find. I accepted the good, the bad, and the Bubsy, or at least the Bubsy that the public seemed to always see.

But there seems to be a bit more than ten Bubsy fans out there now, many deviantArtists, and in a recent Jaguar game poll Bubsy actually scored FIVE WHOLE VOTES!! That was four other people than me because I swear I did not place multiple votes.

So going forward, I will feature more or less positive reviews and comments of the Bubster. Yes yes, he is imfamous as the worst game mascot REMEMBERED. After a decade or more of listening to such comments, I find them bland and lacking new material. How about something more challenging... finding GOOD matieral for Bubsy.

And I will find it. Oh yes, I will find it. For I am a crui'zin fool! - Doctor Clu

Just want to say congratulations to Bubsy and be the first to submit a picture (drinking Arizona tea) to the game mascot that brought hours of fun and distractions in life when I needed it most. Here's to you!

Throughout the month of May you too can submit pictures that you can send to doctorclu to be added to this message. You can send a picture of yourself toasting Bubsy or just a picture of the drink itself. I will even take tasteful pictures submitted from people of other characters drinking interesting drinks.

Again, Happy Birthday Bubsy, and thanks to all who developed the Bubsy games.

Twenty-One years ago Electronic Games magazine for March 1993 had Bubsy on the cover. Of course they did, Bubsy was the new cat in town.

I didn't win the auction for this magazine as the time ran out, but we did score a awesome picture of the awesome bobcat.

A lot more to come. Just waiting till April so I don't flood March with too much Bubsy awesome madness.

Hey Bubsy fans, I was showing off my Youtube channel to family and we watched a few of my Bubsy: Fractured Furry Tales videos from 2008 and I was like "Mannn... I have gotten much better since that time." So I played a new speedrun video. The ironic thing was when I did my first speed run video years ago I was able to get the total time in under 40 minutes by deleting the scenes in between where the balls were being counted which would take about a minute a piece. In the 2014 video it is also 40 minutes, but with little to no editing (except for times I died).

    Here is the video:

One viewer was asking for the mod files for the music in the fractured Furry Tales, and here is the music that was ripped from the rom image (attached).

Happy New Year you bunch of yarn ball chasers!! (Or balls, cards, or atoms depending on which Bubsy game you like to play most.)

Really not much going on with Bubsy at the moment, so I searched through Ebay, games, games, games, posters, the Bubsy promo pin I have watched go from $40-something to currently $25. I might have to pick that up at some point. And then I saw these interesting cases:

We have this seller to thank for the pictures:

    http://www.ebay.com/usr/pinkyinc

All and all, I have never seen these exact plastic cases. I was tempted to pick them up, but saw that PinkInc was not seeing carts with cases. Pitty. Based on how the first pictures has the "Watch me in my TV show" sticker on it, these probably came out around 1993 when the show aired.

About as interesting as Bubsy collecting gets at the moment, but we'll keep our eyes open for new Bubsy info in 2014.

So having recently found the Bubsy "Portable Hole" (information coming soon on that) it made me wonder, what else is out there? And this got me to thinking what have I missed lately on Ebay?

So I searched the completed auctions on Ebay, and I have to admit, this mug was pretty cool:

Now that is not the best part. Check this out...

The lucky bastage paid twice as much for shipping as he did for the actual mug. I love it!

Also on E-Bay was the third sighting (for me) of the Bubsy lapel pin:

Love the black velvet pull string bag they are storing that in.
And then this was a curiousity to me:

A poster with the original SNES version of Bubsy? I went and checked my copy and well... remembered that I just bought the box seperate from the cartridge on the SNES version. Looks like I still have more collecting to do.

Just wanted to wish everyone that reads the Bubsy Fan Blog a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. It is nearly 2013 and we have not forgotten the Bubster.

Hey truly amazing people who, like the Bubster, will never stop, no matter what is thrown at us (and sometimes that is a good way to get free stuff as one Popeye cartoon best illustrated), here are some cool pics I found of Bubsy as I was looking over the net:

    Found this one at:
    http://playamerican.tumblr.com/post/23043598024

I always like Bubsy in challenging situations. That seems to be his way. To get stuck, but not neccessarily beaten. Here Bubsy is working through a problem... a really big problem, but working at it all the same.

We have our local favorite, Sponge Fox, with some entries that looked pretty cool:

To all the people whose art were featured in today's Bubsy blog, thank you for keeping Bubsy alive and nuts as ever. And if you would like to have some art featured on this blog, drop me a line here on Atariage.

This was truly interesting, a flip-flop for the Bubsy's Beach Bash!

Will I pay $100 for a flip-flop? Probably not. But it is interesting to know that this invitation to the release party actually existed, and you can get it now on E-bay.

My thanks to papajulingleefor the great images, and here's hoping that eventually that flip-flop finds a good loving home. (Or finds it's mate to make a pair, whichever comes first.)

Well scouting the internets I see Bubsy has made the rounds.

First off, there was a Android app, that appears to no longer be, but interesting...

    I found these gems...

Looks like someone was inspired by the Bubsy/Bonkers connection.

    Umm... wow.

Liked this one! Bubsy in a race with the goggles on!

Over at this website I like the icons:

Will you look at this!! I asked Sponge Fox for a picture of Bubsy with goggles. Why? Well in Bubsy 1 when he would ride the roller coaster he would wear the goggles. It was a nice look for him.

Sponge Fox took it a step further adding another cool element of Bubsy, side slinging the Ballzooka that he used in Bubsy 2, and then for fun, added the fingerless gloves.

All and all, this to me is the most awesome picture of Bubsy I have seen yet. Thanks Sponge Fox for helping Bubsy evolve to the next level of coolness.

For those that missed the greatness of seeing videos on "YouTube 1911" where YouTube celebrated a bogus 100 year anniversary on April 1, 2011, you can still see the Bubsy Bobcat cartoons in that format!

You can check those fine cartoons of yesteryear right here:

    Part 1

    Part 2

    Part 3
    (Currently uploading)

Some this change made the cartoon more enjoyable. I think I agree.

I'm happy to report that while we have Sponge Fox as the rabid maker of Bubsy art, we have another deviant artist who was nice enough to point the way to this fan blog, and so I will return the favor.

Fellow fans of the Bubster, check out this link...

Just picked up a new game for the Atari Lynx called "Hotdog".

I'm kinda stoked about it because basically the game is just a few pixels away from being Bubsy. The similarities...

    1) You land on enemies to knock them out and get points.
    2) One hit knocks you out.
    3) Character has that "games with personality" look to him. The character is drawn at a similar angle to Bubsy.
    4) Character will stamp feet when you make him wait.
    5) Character rides items in the game much like in Bubsy.
    6) You have items, like the one up shirt, that you can collect in this game.

Some would say it is more like Zool. Definately like the original Zool on the SNES. However, you don't shoot anything, so being that you have to land on opponents.. more like Bubsy.

Here is the rest of the description of Hotdog. All and all I'm glad a Bubsy-like game exists for the Lynx. Before we had Bubsy 2 for the gameboy, but now we can play a similar game on the Lynx!
