2020 has been a great year to re-boot my life.
-
For me too. All the upheaval of this year interrupted certain routines and habits that I had fallen into, so I took the opportunity to create better ones.

Oh don't get me wrong, some parts of my life have gone to crap. But not the important parts. House is in better shape. Work is doing quite well. Gotten back into retro computing and BBSing. There were other aspects that did not weather this so well.

Which cycles back to what I said before, it saves your position, but not all the enemies that were dead by that point. Saving is great. Keeping the Jaguar on during the duration of the game if possible, even better. Or play by emulation if you don't want to cook original hardware.

So my first portable computer was a Tandy 100. I would transfer files to my Atari 400 after being at high school. Cool machine. At home my Dad acquired a docking station for the Tandy 100. Was able to get on BBSs at the time in 80 x 24. So all that said said, good to see your Tandy 102 getting some love.

Hahah... "Yes" or "absolutely". Not weary, just weary of this poll. Is it a really cool, interesting, even detailed game? Sure. Best for the 2600? Well... based on what? Best two player game? Nope. Best action game? Nope. Best music? Nope. Best graphics? Nope. Best RPG for 2600? Possibly. Just have to compare.

Hooked back up Atari 800 and I have Star Raiders II (this one) on a Atarimax flash cart. Has been so much fun to play. Star Cruiser Eight. Loved that bit of continuity.

I AALLLLMOST beat AVP once as a marine. I was the most badass on three ships. Then a Facehugger got me. Could pulse rifle a Predator with no problem, but you miss a egg in a sweep, well, you're still human. Anyway, only advice I can give is don't turn the Jaguar off as you play. Just play, then let the Jaguar stay on. If you power the Jag off, everything you killed comes back!

Man that is amazing fun!!

Why did Atari make the 400 have a membrane keyboard?
doctorclu replied to LostRanger22's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Pong? Anyway the first time I saw a Atari 400 was at an electronics store (Tanner's) in Dallas, TX with Star Raiders. It was on a projection TV. I just flew around, blasting asteroids, not realizing there were shields, a galactic map, or enemies. Just thought it was 3D asteroids. I was sold on the computer for that alone. -
Atari 400 Aftermarket Replacement Keyboard Thread
doctorclu replied to wood_jl's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
This has been a fun thread. My original 400 was eventually upgraded with a 1200 keyboard in one of the Radio Shack keyboard kits they sold. But for the record, while the keyboard is nothing close to a touch type keyboard, the 400 was a great keyboard for a low cost game machine and my first computer. -
My rather messy game/computer collection

That is a cool collection. Liked the classic Mac. Got me pining for the 7 inch screen. -
How much would you pay for an Atari Computer in 2020?
doctorclu replied to Blues76's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
And yet for the price of a base system and some SD card solution and all the upgrade solutions now out there, you'd be doing well for relatively little. -
How much would you pay for an Atari Computer in 2020?
doctorclu replied to Blues76's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
These tend to show up in retro stores. This Atari 800 is going for $110 in a RetroMadness Store on Hulen Street in Fort Worth, Texas. I bought a tricked out Atari 400 (composite video mod, built in power supply, 32K of memory, and some other unknown mod) for $120. So just comes down to patience.) -
I thought they finally released the Atari VCS a month or so back.

Oh cool!

This has been a fun read and I'm glad you all liked the Aquarius jab a while back. If I were honest I would say the C=64 would the cheapest and best retro computer experience to someone starting out. The Atari 8-bit, a close second. And for that an Atari 800 XL for a good base experience. Atari 800 beige for someone wanting to do a bit more work, but great for more of that retro/typewriter look.

Looks amazing!

Welcome to Atari Jaguar Game Mascots - October 2020
doctorclu posted a blog entry in Atari Jaguar Game Mascots
Want to welcome you to the Atari Jaguar Game Mascots blog. I am repurposing my "Gadgets with Buttons" blog since apparently technology is moving forward with touch screens and not going back to tactile buttons. I did see on twitter following my usual Bubsy searches that not only was there a Bubsy mascot costume, but a Zool (and Zooz) mascot costume for game promotions! And I was thinking how I always wanted to do a blog about Zool. But Zool has effectively one game. Oh sure there is a "Zool" and "Zool 2" but there is not much difference between the two. Well, there are, but on the surface, no. But Zool is cool. He has two books at least, releases to more platforms than Bubsy, he was and is pretty cool. Someone I would dedicate a whole blog to? No. But someone who needs talking about. And what about Kid Kleet from Soccer Kid, who actually has a fairly widely available plush out there? And Rayman, well, you can dedicate a whole blog to Rayman, but we won't hate him for being popular far beyond his origin on the Jaguar. So this blog is dedicated to talking about the game characters from Atari Jaguar games *. Names such as Rayman, Bubsy, Zool, Dizzy, Worms, and Kid Kleet immediately come to mind. Also includes the characters from the Atari Kart/Merlin Racing * franchise, and other characters. So calling all fans of Jaguar game characters!!! If you have a Jaguar game character you want featured or have material to share, contact "doctorclu". One thing is for certain, the Atari Jaguar is full of character(s). -Atari Jaguar Game Mascots Staff * Some related Nuon game characters will be featured here as well. -

VCS code execution on Lynx - Need help for a POC
doctorclu replied to Nop90's topic in Atari Lynx Programming
Hi, any newer versions to play with? I wanted to hex hack other 2600 rom images in and see how they play. -
Looks fun. Actually most excited about the more vector graphic looking screens.
