Virtual VCS by Temporary Sanity Designs actually had a great demo of games that worked in all but hit detection. So you could control players in a nice looking Defender, Berzerk, Combat, Pac-Man, Adventure, etc. Just couldn't interact by hitting something or being hit by something. (And no sound BTW) But, filtering out games that don't don't use hit detection, and keeping games to 4K in size actually found games that work quite well, such as Space Attack, and Sky Diver and other varying titles with varying success. This was done since Virtual VCS is not compressed so in a hex editor you can find where the 2600 rom images begin and end and paste over it other rom images. You can even have a two player 2600 game played in VirtualVCS on the Jaguar. So VirtualVCS, with many limits can play a handful of games relatively well. And if one of the rom banks could look for an Atari 2600 rom image on a game on a cartridge adaptor, about what you'd need for a 2600 adaptor that could actually read like say, Sky Diver, Flag Capture, Hangman, or amazingly, Space Attack!

While I'm glad the Jaguar CD module was a thing for the VLM, a few good titles, and the later loading of homebrew games; I prefer cartridge based games. I use my CD add on sparingly these days, mostly to play Battlemorph. So Pitfall on cartridge I can play without some "guilt".

To give you an idea, a recently completed auction.

Quite amazing game gameplay and graphically speaking, just seems like the playtesters didn't know what the final boss was supposed to do. I mean the final boss is still challenging, just should have been more. Which is ok, because probably 90% of the people who try Jaguar Pitfall probably won't get to the final boss.

I became a fan of what few platformers the Jaguar had (Bubsy, Rayman, Zool 2, Soccer Kid) and Pitfall is a welcome part of the platformers. In the comparison with the SNES version I did notice one difference and that was the final boss. It is like the code for the final boss and how he forms and actively attacks the main character was not completely implemented. On the Jaguar version the final boss forms and tends to fall back more. Other than the final boss I had a lot of fun playing Pitfall, even discovering a trick, and would say it was solid game.

What's the Worst Console You Ever Played?
doctorclu replied to VectorGamer's topic in Classic Console Discussion
So far the Turbo Graphics 16. Friend gave me one, I fixed it up, replaced the power supply for it, and then... of the stack of games he had with it none grabbed me. Eventually gave it back to friend. He was overjoyed to have the system of his childhood back ... working. So that was cool. -
Love the PS4, but I would have bought a PS5 for backward compatibility with the PS1 - PS4. https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2020/09/sony-makes-it-official-playstation-5-wont-natively-support-ps1-ps2-ps3/ And with this news, I'll be staying with the PS4. (Now the whole reason I bought the PS4 was for the new Bubsy games. Soooo we'll see how future releases go.)

Cruizin' PXExtreme - The Gold X Award - September 2020
doctorclu posted a blog entry in Bubsy Bobcat Fan Blog
Meanwhile on the Officious Bubsy Discord Server, discussions continue, projects continue, and some time to time, some interesting facts are given. We've known in the fandom that the Gold X award, believed to be made up by Accolade, was in fact a "true" award for the magazine, PXExtreme. It is no surprise that there was in fact a tin through platinum award for the magazine. We figured it would be great to document the various awards in a blog entry, and also whatever else could be found. For starters, here is where the information was found, so to given the proper credit: If you try to go to that website you will get a domain waiting to be bought. The days as a PSExtreme website is long in the past. So you enter this in the internet archive and scroll it wayyyy back to 1997. It was there I got this link: https://web.archive.org/web/19970601104334/http://www.psextreme.com/ratings.htm And here is a mosaic of snapshots of time, the awards, and where Bubsy 3D stood in comparison to other contemporary game titles. Fascinating things, thanks for stopping in and enjoy the list! - Bubsy Bobcat Fan Blog -
So what exactly is the Jaguar complete set?

Double Dragon 5 ? That is some serious self inflicted pain. -
So what exactly is the Jaguar complete set?

Complete Jaguar set is a Jaguar, a rom loading cartridge, and your top five to ten games you'll repeatedly play. (I had all the official release games once, but the above was my final conclusion.) -
Ebay: Something I’ve not seen before...

To me it looks like the back side of the ... want to say Pilot quick guide? But if a Atari 400 overlay, still cool, never seen one. -
Anyone else sell all their Jag stuff and...
doctorclu replied to Crazy Climber's topic in Atari Jaguar
I would love for more people to be able to experience a Jaguar. If that ever becomes a thing, let me know, might have some hardware to donate. As for me, I've always made it a point to keep a Jaguar setup around while selling off pieces of it here and there. Just need a Jaguar setup, a CD unit, a skunkboard, Bubsy, Raiden, Cybermorph, Doom, and Joust. -
Yeh the Water levels even when I know how to speed run still take three times as long as the other levels. They are something else. Faran Thomason (game producer) said that the game was designed to be challenging to the level of the play testers of the time. And the thought back then X-treme difficulty. It was 1994 after all.

So Jaguar for me: 1994 - Saw a Jaguar new in the box in a second hand electronic store for $250-$300. Oddly I had moved on from the Atari computer in 1989 to Mac. Thought someone was pranking the Atari name. Store owner was not too impressed with the system. So I said "Huh..." and moved on. 1999 - Finished up college and found an Atari user group still around?!?! Thought Atari was done in the 80's. (no internet then) Picked up a Jaguar at Kaybee toy store for $30 after calling them and finding their last three in stock in Dallas. Wasn't impressed with Cybermorph, but got Bubsy and Tempest 2000 and loved it!

To Curt Vendel, an old friend that helped us remember how fun Atari really is. And someone who found some new ways to have even more fun. Gonna miss you.

Space Raiders and American Football are the only two I had.

Cruizin' AtariAge - Kitt'N Kaboodle (VCS/2600) Update - August 2020
doctorclu posted a blog entry in Bubsy Bobcat Fan Blog
Got a new version of Kitt'N Kaboodle for the Atari 2600/VCS This one has: * Improved sprites (Jumping, running, and climbing.) * Change of the logo from "Bubsy 0" to "Kitt'N Kaboodle" * New final level with item (one of Virgil's atoms) from "Paws on Fire" to celebrate that game release. Download latest version. The latest revision was prompted when Welfz Twingo Furs ran some ideas by me for a version of the game he had in mind. I created the version for him, and with his permission adapted some inspiration from that and other revisions to make the revision 22 you see above. For completists, here is the Welfz Twingo Furs edition, thanks again Welfz Twingo Furs!) Still hoping to hack the music, I have had some success with that, and still dream of hacking in a voice track since Bubsy was one of the first talking mascots. So will scratch the chin a bit more on that. For now, enjoy! Coming up in September... A Swedish version of "Bubsy: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind" that Busby the Bobcat helped me find. -
I've just gone and bought my first Jaguar from ebay
doctorclu replied to Ross PK's topic in Atari Jaguar
That is amazing. I was actually thinking "Do I make my usual comical pitch for Bubsy. Nah.. I'll give it a rest..." and there you bought a copy. Nice. It's the game that made me a Bubsy fan and start a blog here. My top 5 (original release) for the Jaguar are Cybermorph, Raiden, Bubsy, Tempest 2K, and Doom. -
Syndicate I remember seeing for the Jaguar and did pick up a copy to try. I smiled remembering the hours my friends played this in college on a PC and was a bit proud to brag to them the Jaguar also had the title. I think I planned to play it more once I beat Cannon Fodder; and darnit while stuck on that game the war was just so much fun.

Saw Bill & Ted... a great Bill & Ted movie.
-
At least this sequel is giving us a good reunion of surviving actors and their characters unlike a certain trilogy that just wrapped up recently.
-
No doubt! This one got a good lot of the main characters together, and introduced new characters. And though George Carlin is no longer with us, he was remembered as well.

I recased one Atari STE into a PC case once to match the beige appearance of my Atari 800. Why? The Atari STE became my APE solution as a virtual floppy drive setup. Worked quite well. I believe the program on the Atari ST was 800XLDJ. To complete the look I actually labeled the recased Atari ST "890", as a beige variant of the 1090 XL prototype that allowed for expansion slots. In time this setup was replaced with the MyIde and other solutions that allowed the Atari 800 to have an more direct hard drive solution, but it was fun for like a year.
