  1. I think you are right on the money with that observation! That is exactly why I've always loved Adventure. Well if that's the case you must have LOVED Raiders of the Lost Ark. I mean there you have a block to represent that, another block to represent that... I used to bash modern gaming and computing, but I am glad that they always work to push the envelope. (Current favorite, Guitar Hero!!) That said, I do like the imagination that the earlier games inspired. I wrote stories based from imaginings based on Joust, Archon, and Star Raiders. They give you so little to work with, the mind gets going, and sometimes it gets carried away and takes on a whole other life and story of it's own.
  2. Picked up an adult game that's import. All Atari games are basically region free, but I have picked up games and parts from around the world.
  3. Ever play a game called "Droids" or "Daleks" on some of the earlier computers? You move, and the other droids move in on you. Generally you would not have a weapon that you can use all the time like you do in Berzerk, so you had to manuver the droids into each other. I always figured that Berzerk was a vamped up version of that game. In Berzerk you can almost get by with having the other robots shoot each other, direct them into walls, or into each other. In truth, I trick them more often than shoot them, and the points are the same either way.
  4. What would it take to adapt them? I know NES controllers are tricky to adapt for the Atari systems with nine pin connectors, but I have seen it done.
  5. I've heard that if you work through the maze just right, you enter a room with a huge smiley face, and if you can shoot it 50 times without being hit by it, you win the game and are allowed to escape for good. But that is only something I heard once.
  6. Nice! (Though to be honest I wish someone would port 2600 Warlords to teh 8-bit all the same, I like that version best.)
  7. I have ultimately decided that a 5200 with a redemption module is an Atari 400. So I want to make use of the 360 directional controllers and enjoy the 5200 for what it's made for. Star Raiders is the first game I found where the controller made the gaming experience better than the 800. Space Dungeon was the second. What other games really shine with these controllers? And I understand the controllers break easily. What mods can I do to inprove their ruggedness?
  8. I know I do, and I say this because I own a lot of odd systems. So I am sure I have some odd system or computer that does not have a game for it. I believe my TRS-80 Model 100 (which had games) is game less. Same for my Headstart Explorer. I'm sure I could think of more.
  9. What do you mean the forums aren't what they used to be? That is just bizarre, but then I hang out on the 8-bit forums mostly. Many new games and hardware devices happened because of this place, and in truth, this is a whole new age of Atari gaming. Love this place. If this place has to pack up shop, give us warning to say goodbye ok?
  10. I was helping a friend get an Atari 800 back online and I learned something that will keep me from never turning down an Atari 400 ever again. Atari 400 is a wealth of parts!! Took one antic out of the 400 for the 800, and now the 800 is back online! And I find Atari 400's to this day here in Dallas for cheap. So while it might not be much of a computer... it's awesome for cheap parts!! (that are socketed none the less!)
  11. Hey Mike, always happy to help another 8-bit user and especially beige 800 ones. What I used to get online was the 800, pulled up Flickerterm, though Ice-T would work as well. I used a BBS called the Family-Net BBS... http://www.familynet-international.org/ And to use that you can telnet to... telnet://telnet.familynet-international.net The IP address on this one has been changing lately, so if you want to use a lantronix, you will need to ping it with another computer. Once on the Family-Net... "chat" & "G" then ... /ircjoin irc.openirc.net then /j %#atari The Family-Net is just one of many BBS and shell accounts out there that the Atari can telnet to. It is just that the Family-BBS is the first one I have found that had IRC support. I would love to hear of more places that support IRC, and if someone supported Jabber (the client that allows Yahoo, MSN, AIM, ect), now that would definately be awesome.
  12. Yep, fairly easy from the Win/Linux boxes, Macs etc. What I was suggesting was how to get there with the less than 16 bit computers that some of us like using to get to some of these chats. Sorry if my instructions seemed complicated, however getting to IRC through a shell/BBS like the Family-Net is the only way I know of so far. Open to other suggestions. As far as "quality chats" go, that is a matter of opinion.
  13. time check... Oh well, this is eastern standard time, so this is already over. Gonna try to download the emulator and get in some score here at work, but oh well. I'll work to get in the next one. And this game looked kinda interesting too. Bummer.
  14. Flooding? Just ignore that. Keep trying.
  15. You've requested it, you've begged, and so someone opened a IRC channel, and some of us last Tuesday during the chat tried out the IRC Atari channel. And we will be there again tonight!! The location is IRC= irc.openirc.net/#atari Will be starting at 8 pm CST and going till... whenever!! See you there!! "But how can I get there with an Atari computer?" I'm glad you asked. telnet to... telnet.familynet-international.net once there... "chat" & "G" then ... /ircjoin irc.openirc.net then /j %#atari Been on numerous times with the Atari 800, but these instructions are only if you can't get the resident IRC clinet (that I've used before) working on the ST/TT/Falcon.

  17. You know, I disagree with this statement. I have a Cuttle Cart 2 and what it allows the Atari 7800 has made it my favorite system equal to my other fav system, the Jaguar. I have had a chance to play a HUGE library of games that were commercial, beta, or new in development. Do I develop on the 7800? Not really, but I can try new games quicker, and encourage the ones developing. On the Jaguar I can current try new games with the JUGS setup and the new CD games. But there are a lot of game images that I cannot as easily try. Like Arena Football that was released, but I need a FlashCart, or to reprogram a Eprom cart. I don't have these means. Or the 2600 emulators, or the Golf game recently released. And when I take the Jaguar to display at some video game show, it is STRESSFUL keeping up with 20+ carts. It would be nice to have it all on one cart, like I have working on my Atari 7800. One Cuttle Cart (2) holding hundreds of games!! So why I have always voted for this: 1) The ability to try new beta cart images quicker, easier. 2) The ability to display a Jag, and have all on one cart. And as far as development goes, I might not be interested in developing for the 7800 (at least until the computer module comes out) but I might try developing it I had a alpine or flashcart replacement. Later!
  18. The older SCSI drives are nice in a way, but now days they are small, noisy, ect. Well, one option I was looking into for a Macintosh Duo (SCSI based) was to get a SCSI to IDE converter, and using a newer IDE drive. The only issue you might run into is that the converter would take a bit more room, but aside from that, this solution works well. And if you don't mind using a bit more room, once you have converted SCSI to IDE, then it is only a $20 jump to get a IDE to Compact flash adaptor.
  19. Just a reminder of the Euro Chat in one hour and 30 minutes!!! New IP was 69.60.124.49 last week for all you Lantronix/8-bit users. Or Atarinews.org I am sorry that I will not be there, but hope you have a great chat. And if Mr. Atari shows up, let him know the gal replacement from Steve Tucker for the MyIde Flash has worked a lot better. See a llot of you Tuesday.
  20. I would be all for a ST game converter for the Jaguar. 16 bit or not, there are some great and fun games on the ST. I would love to see Golden Axe, even the ST version, to play on the Jaguar.
  21. I have Bubsy for the Genesis as part of my Bubsy collection. I actually bought a SNES and Playstation to play his other games (first game I played one of his games was on the Jaguar). Since the SNES and Sega versions are practically the same, I was content with the SNES. (Though I think the Sega looks cooler, but is just harder to find.) I do have a Sega 32-X but have yet to get it working. Then there was Battlestar Galactica for the PS2. I am ticked they have not made a GameCube version, but it was Battlestar that helped me realize just how lame the GameCube's selection is. "Game's available for all platforms. [Disclaimer: GameCube version not available.]" One day I will pick up a PS2 when I can get it for the $10 price at a flea market that I got the PS1 for.
  22. IMPORTANT NOTE... We are at... telnet://www.atarinews.org or the new IP address (for lantronix users) of 69.60.124.49 The older one will lead to a empty chat room...
  23. Wondering the same thing. Anyway, I am in there now.
