  1. Good news is, doing what I mentioned in the previous message helped it work on the Mac OS X version. Now to figure out the tricks to cut some corners here and there and help it run faster. I am working with a G4 duel 800 mhz and it is still running at 65% speed it seems. Any pointers would be a apreciated!
  2. I managed to get Bubsy to work on Virtual Jag 1.07 on a Optiplex 260 at 2 ghz... man still slow. At first the logs were looking the same on the Mac, but THEN after loading the Bubsy rom I selected reset instead of run... which rebooted the Jag and it worked! Now to try this on the Mac.   3. Hmmm... if this works the same as the PC version, then I guess you could take eeprom files created by that one and copy them into the Mac version's folder. Crude, but is the only thing I can think of. Another thing I had trouble with was figuring out the file structure setup that VJ wanted to see. I found myself posting the needed roms in all the folders in and around the VJ program. Got it to see the Bubsy and Jagboot rom images at least. Might try this, however, still would like some input on this.

I have seen that molding in person.. http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/doctor_clu/a...m/ph//my_photos The quick picture I've added is something I'm pondering... dremmeling the Jaguar top and the CD bottom (and a few other mods) to lower the profile of the JagCD a little bit. Make it look a bit more streamline and less like a tiolet. The other picture was just me tinkering around to see what if I got the top of the CD unit and the Jag shell at the same level, maybe some modeler's puddy, some paint... I don't think it is possible mind you, but interesting. The final picture is the regular Jag we all know and love for contrast.
  5. Currently trying to get Virtual Jaguar working. I am using the Mac OS X version, but I think the concept might be same. According the logs it is loading the jagboot.rom fine. It brings me to a blue screen where I then load the cart rom image, and from there, run the image. The process seems to work well until it looks into the eeprom folder, and looks for a "2E17D5DA.eep" file, which according to the docs the emulator was supposed to create. I created a dummy "2E17D5DA.eep" file for it to write to, but that did not seem to do anything except make it hang. This is where I am stuck. Anyone have any idea where to go from here?   9. Was playing the Ali Baba levels last night and found a continue (circular purple arrow) on the 7th level. So much for the idea that the continues were on the boss levels.

Ok, you CAN die every five seconds, which is a strange goal. But try this: Jump.. glide. (Two button combination). Always GLIDE onto your opponent and just float on top of them. A lot of it just comes in time. Many don't learn the ways of the Bubster, but once you do, you find he has many moves and tricks. You also learn in time that if you can hit more than one opponent while still airborne you get 100 additional points for each one you hit after the first one. The levels are LOONNG. Bubsy has always been plagued with long levels. Especially Bubsy 3D (Geezz!!) which I absolutely adored the sensation of flying in that game (got my Playstation just for Bubsy 3D, and the same can be said for the Super NES and the other Bubsy titles), but while the flying was cool, I had to practically find a fluke in the game to finish a level, and then the game save didn't work. Haven't played it since, though the game was fun. And throwing the atoms that you collect at opponents was fun too. I actually think the Jaguar would be great with Bubsy 3D. Bubsy had an interesting progression in all his titles: -One hit kills Bubsy, no gadgets - Bubsy, Bubsy Fractured Fairy Tails -Multiple Hits to kill Bubsy, & gadgets - Bubsy II, Bubsy 3D Many regard the original Bubsy as the best, and I agree. The Jaguar Bubsy is a close second. Even without the gadgets and quick ways to die, both are just fun. Things I liked about the Jag Bubsy: 1- The way Bubsy zips along when he gets to run. Running and gliding are fun. 2- Multiple glide kills. Always fun to line that up, and since the opponents are always in the same place everytime, it is only a matter of memory. 3- Enemies, once dead, stay dead. 4- Most of the boss characters after the first one at level three are really fairly easy. 5- Bubsy's remarks. 6- Bubsy wrapping on the screen when he gets bored. (the tapping on the screen sound effect is better on the Jag than the Super NES I think.) 7- The diversity of the scenarios: Running on tables at a tea party, to jumping from leaves and vines, to desert, underwater, and finally a candy land. All Bubsy games were about that diverse actually, just glad the Jag Bubsy was as well. 8- A password per level. An improvement over the first Bubsy game. 9- The brilliant colors. 10- The nice big Atari fuji at the beginning of the game when you power on the game. Nice nice touch. Oh remember, the circular purple arrow is the one thing that Bubsy has that is the closest to a gadget. That is the continue. You get nine more lives, and you get to keep adding to your score. So far I have found them on the third and six level. I suppose with that logic there would be a continue on each boss level. Not sure. Enjoy Bubsy. As a spokes feline for the Jaguar he has more wit than Trevor McFur, and more speed and agility than that nameless Jaguar seen occationally in the commercials. And what is really great about Jag Bubsy (Fracture Fairy Tails) that while you can pick up the other Bubsy titles on multiple systems for each title, Jag Bubsy is only available on the Atari Jaguar.   11. Doom for the Jaguar!! I will sit and play that for a good while. Other than that, I don't play games much at the moment. (Sometimes Bubsy).
  12. Then vs. Now is a hard comparison for me since I arrived to the Jag in 1999. I think though from what I've gather that there has never really been a hay day for the Jag first off. To matter the fact, compared to other systems it is merely a unique curiousity system to collect. I would say the Jag is better as a system now than then. At least you have a bunch of unreleased games to choose from. Does the Jag compare to the Xbox? No, the Jag was made in 1993, give it a break folks. Does a SuperNES compare to a X-Box? Hardly. Wish people would stop looking at the Jag for how it compares now and see it for what it is, a unique game system with some fun games. Was Kasumi Ninja ever supposed to compare to Mortal Combat? Boy I hope not, but it funny to play now. And Bubsy is not the same version as the SNES or Genesis Bubsy title. The one for the Jaguar has few animations and sounds, but is a great Bubsy title that all five other Bubsy fans in the world that don't have a Jag would love to play. Just a fun game system.

Well, while there are some lame Jaguar games (double dragon 5) and while some games tend to push the envelope of suck (double dragon 5), that there are some games (not double dragon 5) that are strikingly great. About the only thing I am considering is making the Jaguar casing more streamline with the CD unit. That's about it.

Thanks for the concern on all this Metalguy though honestly I wish you'd keep your griping to less than say 50% of the chat time or on a forem like this where your suggestions will stay and not be overwritten by the chatroom. Metalguy, et al, there are several things I like about the telnet chat room: 1) It is there, & generally always there. I like consistancy. 2) It is run by an Atari user. That is important when you consider #3. 3) You can get Atari computers on it and enjoy the chat on an actual Atari. Can there be a better chatroom? Sure there can. You want to run it? More importantly run it consistantly? Go for it! IRC is a great simple text media for chatting. All for it. Know of a shell account out there that 8-bitters can jump through to get to this IRC chat room, then I am on board with this idea. Or would you like to run that telnet point that 8-bitters can IRC from? I'm all ears. In the meantime, enjoy what we have. And again... ATARI CHAT TONIGHT AT 8 PM CST!
  16. Uses for a Jag CD... Virtual Light Machine Games like Battlemorph (awesome), VidGrid, Highlander, Myst, BrainDead 13 (the ones I've liked) Unreleased games like SoulStar and American Hero (my favs of those types) New releases like Gorf and others coming along. Can play regular CD's (even CD-Rs) Can play CD+G Karokee discs. Can play games though JUGS CD A useful add on.

  19. Wow... yeh the Atari Jaguar is definately an Atari system through and through. I have tinkered with all the Atari systems, and settled on the Atari 800 for a computer and the Jaguar. Love the Jag. Got a Gamecube and a Playstation, but they are packed away. The Jag is played all the time. (The other two are good if not better than the Jag, but I just like the Jag). Can't say it enough... Doom!!! Get Doom!

  21. That can sometimes be the case even today. For example, a person who's working on stage 4 of a video game might temporarily hack one instruction so the game will start at level 4 instead of level 1. This will allow the programmer to test level 4, but might make the first three levels inaccessible. Later, once level 4 is completed the programmer would modify that instruction to (depending upon the target size of the game) either start at level 5 (which he'd work on next) or level 1 (if there were no more levels to work on). In some cases, the code for the first few levels may be "if"'ed out while the fourth level is constructed. If that's the case, there won't be any trace of it in the EPROM. But in other cases, the programmer will leave code for the first three levels alone and simply change the instructions that set the starting level. In that case, changing one byte in the ROM image will make the first three levels available for play. Reminds me of Phase Zero for the Atari Jaguar. Some levels are done and you can only get to them by jumping to them. Other earlier levels are not. Same with Soul Star, but sadly no jumps, just have to barrow through bad levels.
  22. Now that's the spirit! Don't have too many regrets Atari wise. There is so much coming out for the Atari stuff now that really in many ways today is another Atari hayday. (especially for the 8-bit scene as far as I'm concerned). No, there is only one thing I would go back in time for.... Back in the early 80's, was a great time for me... Atari 2600 was just firing up (in 1979.. 1980) and so was cable television. Everything was so new. And there was one show I would love to get a taping of, and that was "Video Comics" Anyway, been searching everywhere for that, and have not found it. They featured all the things I got into comics for.. the Flash, Green Lantern, Adam Strange. Just neat stuff. Me, I would quantam leap into my own past just to revisit those shows again.
  23. Not boring. The 800 and 400 do use a different method of bank switching. What these boards do is make the 800 actually XL/XE compatible and uses the memory as the XL/XE would. This is so complete that you actually have to use the Translator disk on the 800 so that 800 programs will work on it (as if it were a XL). So it works that well.
  24. What kind of update did warerat do? I need to see what he has been up to. Adding rom test and basic. Should add a little more compatibility. At least it would be nice. Good news is we believe my package with teh CX802 arrived in Houston ok. Yahhh...
