  1. Can confirm the no fuel gravity landing. (wish I had recorded that one.) That is an interesting claim. I've noticed you tend to not get bombed when you have barely enough runway it is like the pilots are saying "He's dead." Also you tend to get bombed when you've gone through and decimated a lot of the targets, that tends to make them mad. The manual even states this:
  2. I get bombed like that A LOT. As you know you can hit the fire button at any time to stop fueling, reloading, and repairs to launch. I just try to grit it out because I want my full reload. Most of the time it pays off, and sometimes well... As for landing, at least from my experience, the sooner you get on the runway, the sooner you stop. So I try to get down as low as possible and drop down immediately when the landing strip is underneath the plane. So this round of HSC has been great as I've played a game I've played for years but WITH GRAVITY! So I was thinking, what else can I try before this round is over? Well, I tried the game for the first time on Intermediate.... Well that wasn't terrible. About the same DIFFICULTY so I tried advanced... On this one my plane had the bombs damaged while in the big city, so I only hit two out of three bases. Had to go for another pass, which effected the efficiency and my rank. And that seems to be what the difference is. The game does not become harder to play per se, just more difficult to get rank.
  3. Wow 1,952,900 for a score? Any tips on how to play this game?
  4. Ok, here is my blooper reel since in this game for me most of the frustration is what happens around the runway...
  5. Hmmm... speed difference? I get the feeling I'm about to discover something cool. As for never staying off the bottom edge and keeping the speed at 200... you have a choice? (please say yes, I would love to drop speed, have a plane from behind me go whizzing by, and me blast the pogeez out of them!) As for the dark video, yes it was. With this next video I worked to lighten things up a bit... Blue Max Class 3 - 8,160
  6. Here is a fun watch this morning.... I have a runway mayhem video I'm also working on.
  7. Popeye is always fun, but I kinda want to change my vote to Aquatron.
  8. Is amazing how easy it is to find 7800 games still in the box after all these years.
  9. Sounds like the beeps you get when you are "going to town!" The landing indicator when you get around 4K and up (and depending on other factors) will have a flashing indicator for the landing sequence. Yes you have to hit the button to change from R to L. And you have to land the plane and refuel. But once back in the air... next stop... the BIG CITY.
  10. Hey Andrew! You work for DDI at one time? If so what was it like? I know you worked for Imagitec with the work on Bubsy. You ever see much of Zool 2 in development?
  11. That is awesome news. What was the link for that? Was this the news announcement?
  12. That is fairly horrific and explains a lot on why we don't see the Jag CD being used as a tag-on soundtrack for games.
  13. I remember as kid my Dad pointing out that the shadow doesn't match where the bomb lands. Then again in my case it might have been that I died from a bomb dropped by a previous plane where the crater from the bomb was just in front of my plane. That is what I hate the most at this point is when you get a crater right in front of your plane. You don't have a way to steer around it, only get blown up, or not, just gotta chance it.
  14. That was a good article. Thanks for sharing. For starters, best is indeed awesome. Wrote Brad on that before I tried to repair my parts CD unit and he was all "if the CD unit has been opened I cannot repair". Which is fair really. Mine was opened, gutted of parts, and what not. However, he was excellent for getting the plunger and patch pieces that I was missing. Actually used that recently repaired CD unit a lot since its repair. He is quite a the offiando on CD repair isn't he? We are not ready to shuck the CD units just yet so that's a good thing.
  15. In this game with the gravity and trying to strafe I looked like flappy bird bobbing up and down. Those planes. All kinds of three dimensional space and they happen to hit you. But let's just be honest, they are really just World War I cruise missiles essentially.
  16. Love Suzanne!! This is so cool. Not the New Age music from her I'm used to, but hey!
  17. Throw in a quick late entry on this one.
  18. BBS'd on a Tandy 100 for several years. Granted only a few times with the what... 40x20 screen? Most of the times it was on a 80x24 screen on the docking station. Ascii, no Ansi, but still worked great. Atari ST has a serial port, pretty standard stuff. Good Ansi, 80x24. Most term programs have like 4 to 16 color. Atari 8-bit you most of the time used the SIO to a serial interface and from that to the modem. Worked pretty good. Was a strong 40 column machine, but various term programs made 80 column possible with increasing better ANSI and color over the years using various tricks. One fun thing on one term program... activating macros with a joystick! Great when playing online games with North, south, East, and west... and attack! You could program the joystick macros to whatever. (This was Bobterm for those wondering.)
  19. I have to agree about cool things showing up. Of course, it seems like generally something like 15 years and secrets and protos come out of the woodwork. At least I've seen that with the Jaguar. So... wanna see two more cool things that surfaced from those drives? So they found a copy of Ninjabreadman with the Zool placeholders in the upper left hand corner. And Myth Maker with the Zool placeholder. I think the really cool thing about the Zool proto is that it looks like it had all the worlds of NinjaBreadman, Anubis, Myth Maker, that toy world one all rolled into one. One of the biggest complaints about the game is how short the game is. With all those levels it might have sucked but at least have been a longer game to play. I'm fascinated by the Zool 3D idea, and glad it didn't happen. But I want a copy of the prototype all the same.
  20. Call one of those numbers, use the word "prison" for the name and password, goes to a BBS with LORD, a Trade Wars server, and I'm pretty sure Usurper and a few other dozen games. They have this dungeon crawl game that I really like. Actually some unique BBS games, being Atari ST, that you don't see anywhere else. Now that would be cool. I had a Commodore SX=64 for a while. Wanted to BBS on it, but I'm pretty much an Atari user. Need to get my Atari 400 back on the BBSs.
  21. I thought at first with the "#*$" that you were cussing my score like Q-Bert. This was cool!! Have to see if I can find it. When I first saw this I was wondering why I never got the "Crash Test Dummy". That is actually quite amazing. LOL
  22. I would love to play it on Game Gear. I heard it is good, but I get what you're saying, Zool probably takes up most of the screen. 🤣 I love that intro. I recently translated what was on the mini-computer: "Zoel Raol’s farces have overmvr Znui and five other kh worlds. Mission: To destroy ryol’s armies and return. No attempt can be made to rescue you while the veatex Good luck HQ." Yeh seeing Zool animated in that intro is pretty fun. Loved the speed run video. Along with the other Zool elements you mentioned (heart, bees, candy level) I think it is funny how there is this sci-fi teleporter for no reason at all... Over on the Zool wiki there is talk of various Zool projects where other games from DDI used other levels from the Zool game to make other cheap and terrible games. Speaking of DDI a bunch of hard drives were found from the DDI development group by Obscure Gamers. Looks like there was a Zool 3D prototype in there.... Thanks! If you or anyone happens to see other Zool merchandise please let me know. That said, if curious what the handheld was like, I made a video. Honestly, had no idea what was going on.
  23. Yeh seen the intro many times and kept it on in the background as I did stuff. Loved a lot of the characters that Electronic Arts did from that game, Archon, and game I played a lot: Murder on the Zinderneuf. I'm sure once I give M.U.L.E. more of a chance I'd like it. Just hasn't grabbed me in the times I tried.
  24. It's ok for everyone to have opinions, even if they are wrong. j/k Star Raiders... that is eight bit perfection right there. Can't even play devil's advocate on that one, and I normally can to see another side. But different strokes for different folks. You are probably used to Elite on the Commodore 64 which was an awesome game, and released in late 1984. Star Raiders was released in 1979. 😮 Last Starfighter, I think because it was also labeled a "Star Raiders II" lacked the 360 degree immersive world. But had other good elements, graphics, and ideas. A good Last Starfighter movie game, but no Star Raiders. Reload time on Castle Wolfenstein... ok, now you're reminding me of some childhood pain.
  25. Castle Wolfenstein is a great game of exploration and evasion. To find a uniform off a guard or chest, and equip with weapons. Then it becomes all about avoiding the SS that seem to recognize you if you are in inform or not. Played that game for hours. Game I don't like? Plenty of them. I think M.U.L.E. is one that many raved about that I just couldn't get into. Cute game though. Many, many others I don't play. Maybe most of them. But just so happens I have Blue Max on a cart and I've played it a lot recently. Not with gravity, that was new.
