I'm going to give thoughts on all Season 2 episodes. But I'll start by saying I like all of Season 1 episodes.

My ONLY problem with season one (and something I would edit for fun) is that in the space dogfight scenes they often mix ship types like we wouldn't notice.

    Season 2: Story 1:
"Time of the Hawk". Usual edits aside * great introduction of Hawk.

    * Usual edits in this one (for a fan edit) being Twiki's voice (sorry Bob Elyea), Crichton would grow on me but his earlier appearances are insufferable, and Dr. Goodfellow and Admiral Azimov even more so, mostly in what I call their bullying of Crichton. And of course the editing of the opening narration to that of William Conrad. Yes, I have done my own fan edit to make Season 2 more watchable, but amazingly, looking back, there was a lot there to begin with.

The opening title and credits are usually shown with the Searcher flying by slowly. I generally try to put this in relation with the story (if they happen to be on the ship). This was not so carefully played out originally. But the opening music was always different and matched the tone of the story, so though the budget might have been less I don't think they skimped on the music.

Notice I don't say a lot about Hawk and that is only because out of everything season 2, he was the only part that everyone seems to agree is just awesome.

I was even lucky enough to score a fan made figure of Hawk.

In this episode we have the cool concept of a huge building that is a mile wide and tall with 12 hotels in it, a monorail... saw something on youtube about the building that could reach space and house humanity.

Lovely how they have the 4 miles of parking for 10,000 vehicles. And then one crazy woman driver (yeh Gerry Anderson stuff was released when women were known to be bad drivers) crashes her car into another car in the lot and blows up the whole lot, setting the building ablaze.

Huh... have to admit, never thought about what happens to a mile high building if it catches fire.

Love the equipment, like the Mole, the Elevator trucks, and other things that Thunderbird 2 has. And now we have Firefly. Gerry sure did like "Fire" things.

Really surprised that with all the cars in the parking lot that there was not more talk of other people in the building. Also surprised how little of the story dealt with the building and how quickly the building burned up.

Kinda a waste if you ask me about the whole building. Should have made more of a pile of wreckage I would think.

    LOL MOMENTS:
In the show they say the new item is three times faster than a laser beam? Three times faster than light? Really doubt it.

What is it with Gerry Anderson and tables that spin?

Damn, what exactly DOES John do in that Space Station for a month?

Ha... so the building is on fire and there are three people in the basement level. Sooooo... what I would the thousands of people above the basement?

DAMN people are impatient with International Rescue.

Love how they have to drain the pool every time Thunderbird 1 is launched. And the rocket flames don't scorch all the pool chairs and the pool itself?

So Thunderbird 1 is basically Fireball XL5?

"No one knows where they come from but thank God they come."

Tintin "... yes you guessed it, the driver was female". Wow.

In the second episode the army is testing what looked like a gigantic crab. Weighs 500 tons, able to pull up trees and what not.

Now the army is unstoppable!! Until of course the large crab falls into a 300 foot crater. Soo... kinda stoppable.

Here we see the advantage of Thunderbird 2 (green ship) and the interchangable pods. Maybe in the first episode, but wow, that IS cool.

    LOL moments
"So darn far from civilization we'd have a remote chance of getting rescued".

They lower two men into the pit to assess the damage, and each is burned from the heat. Protective suits? Anyone?

"The Sidewinder is on it's side!"

Love the usual Routine of Scott saying "If you want to thank us just make sure no one tracks us."

    So secretive!

I've changed this blog from Space Patrol to Show Patrol.

I've been watching a lot of sci-fi shows while I continue my mediocre day at work. So... why not! Let's talk about shows as I see them?

So I've loved the reverse winged green ship in Thudnerbirds since I was a kid and even saw an episode or two of Thunderbirds. I've been more a fan of Fireball XL5 and Space Patrol. Watched the first episode in the DVD set.

The first episode introduces international Rescue which is alright. No distinctive character traits of the pilots yet.

    Funny points:
Fireflash... a place on Fireball (a previous Anderson production)? Also ironical as this mach 6 plane had a bomb onboard?

    LOL moment:
The plane is atomic powerful. It can circle over one spot for six months... BUT... the reactor walls need maintenance so everyone only has two hours to live.

Fun show, I can see why people like it. First time to really see Thunderbird 1 in action.

Interesting news for Bubsy on twitter...

Here is one of the release of the new game and that it is coming out in May! (Gamestop had no info on this BTW when I had them check)

BBS... the Bubsy Broadcasting System. I'm a fan of this since I have been calling BBSs Bulletin Board Systems) long before the internet. Since Bubsy is kinda stuck in the 90s this sorta fits....

And unrelated but still an interesting off topic...

There are four days left on the Bubsy kickstarter to raise $25,000. So far the counter is at $16,204

Which is actually impressive when you do the math and realize Bubsy has 405 backers!

To help with this Bubsy fan Rusty Everhart has doned the Bubsy costume for some promotional moments to advertise for the kickstarter:

At the very least the kickstarter has shown that Bubsy does indeed have some dedicated followers. You can check out the kickstarter here:

Today we have a late Halloween edition. As I was recording play throughs of Woolies Strike Back I came across a glitch. I hit the button for the screenshots or recordings after selecting a level. The level would load and come up in the wait screen. On certain levels (shown below) instead of a Woolie you get a winged/horned creature with arms. Once you start the level the character turns into a Woolie and everything is normal from there.

So more than likely this is a throw back to the Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams game that Black Forest Games made before using the same game engine for Bubsy: Woolies Strike Back. Checking a lot of screen shots of the Giana Sisters game I don't see those characters, but so far this seems the most likely scenario. If those characters were not in that game, maybe this from an earlier game, or even an earlier concept character for the Bubsy game itself.

Would be awesome if we got the skinny from Black Forest themselves.

    ----------------------------------------

So SpongeFox is always creating new Bubsy art on a fairly regular basis and I believe the newest Bubsy game inspired her because I had a few submitted for posting here. Here is what she had to say on this one:

"I remember doing a really old drawing featuring Bubsy and Conker. It had Bubsy feeling sick to his stomach at the sight of "Bubsy 3D" and Conker actually javing a teal bad fur day. Since I couldn't find it, I did a drawing of Bubsy again feeling ill cause of "that game", only this time, he has the twins with him."

Good morning! So the news of the 6th Bubsy game "Paws on Fire" has stirred up some excitement on Facebook, Instagram, Linked In, and it is always fun to see the activity on Twitter. These are locations that Bubsy news sent out, Bubsy fans are talking, and "Bubsy" himself tends to show up from time to time.

There are other places like Discord that I keep getting notifications from but I have no idea how to use. . There is the Bubsy Bobcat group on DeviantArt. There are also Bubsy conversations on the Steam Forums, And there are the conversations on the Playstation Network groups. We'll feature those to the bottom of this message thread.

But first, here is the latest top ten on the Bubsy Woolies Strike Back Leaderboard:

And, as a added bonus today, we have the latest Bubsy art from Bubsy Bobcat Fan Blog staffer, SpongeFox! Title of this picture is "Bubsy Supreme"

So when on the Playstation Networks check out "Bubsy Bobcat" and "Bubsy Forever"

Was searching for a Bubsy figure... why... oh yeh, waiting for the Bubsy pop figure...

but in the meantime I found someone making a 3D print of a Bubsy figure.

Cool. I ordered one, can give a review on that when it comes in.

I've often joked Bubsy was "The hit points of Mario with the speed of Sonic" I think Bubsy actually owes just as much to Mario as he does to Sonic for the inspiration. And today, the inspiration for Mario passed away.

I originally heard the news at this other blog:
    http://atariage.com/forums/topic/284642-not-atari-but-super-mario-the-real-life-guy-dies/

Rest in peace Mario Segale. Thanks for inspiring the jumpman that was maybe the first platformer mascot I saw. Maybe it was him or Bounty Bob from Miner 2049er. Not sure. Pretty close there.

In tribute, I found some Mario jokes. Worth checking out.

There are some promo books on eBay that I have not seen before. Basically two sets are available:

I wrote this to "Bubsy" on Twitter:

So above all, not bad. A year later Bubsy is still $19.99 for a used copy, and $29.99 for a new copy at Game Stop. The leaderboards on Steam and Playstation are still active. Woolies Strike Back may be a relatively easy game to get through, most can get through in a little more than an hour; however, moving up in the leaderboards requires skills and tricks that take much longer.

As any (good) game. Easy to learn, difficult to master. I think Woolies Strikes Back made for a game that learned from what people complained about. The shield shirt giving one hit is a great system around just giving Bubsy multiple hits (like in Bubsy 2).

The Bubsy on Twitter has chimed in from time to time on National Smile Day, Mother's Day, and during the Olympics. Mostly ads, but there was one time where someone asked if the voice work in Bubsy games could be better and "Bubsy" took slight offense asking basically "Would an artist change a master piece?" (Agreed Bubsy, though we try not to look at George Lucas and "Star Wars: A New Hope.) Thought it was hilarious.

A year ago I bought a Playstation 4 just for Bubsy, and competing on the leaderboards has had me jumping in every other day to squeeze out a few more points. Been fun. Bought Tempest 4000 on the PS4 and that game is quite amazing. Found that Golden Axe is in the Sega Genesis collection, and the Atari retro collection has a lot of fun games too. Not so sure about Raiden 5 looks too cartoony. But overall Bubsy sold me on the PS4 and I think it is, dare I say to my Atari 2600, Intellivision, and Jaguar... the PS4 is becoming my favorite system. I feel so dirty as a retro gamer.

And where Fractured Furry Tales on the Jaguar was my favorite Bubsy game, Woolies Strikes Back has pulled ahead. Someone finally beat me in the Fractured Furry Tales speedrun this year (after ten years) and I almost don't care. Been hacking 2600 games, one of which being the Bubsy hack of "Fast Eddie",helping with the Bubsy Bobcat fan Wiki and yes, Woolies Strikes Back. That among the usual laundry list of life's challenges which praise God have been progressive and positive.

So to BillionSoft/Accolade/Black Forest Games... thanks again for the latest installment of Bubsy. Made for a fun 2018 year!

(And looking forward to the next Bubsy game!)

So SpongeFox, another admin of the Bubsy Bobcat Fan Blog, came up with this great art recently...

More art from other artists to come. But the submission from SpongeFox reminds me of this great video from the Nostalgia Critic. Rob Paulsen as some may recall did the voice for Bubsy in the animated pilot. Not something he is reported to be crazy about, but we like him anyway. (and I think he did an excellent Bubsy, only recently surpassed by the Woolies Strike Back Bubsy voice.)

    Enjoy!

And now, a Bubsy animation from SpongeFox!!

Saw this as I was looking for Pixel Chat (story from a few years ago about Bubsy as a talk show host and I found this gem on a Minecraft site...

    https://www.planetminecraft.com/project/bubsy-pixel-art/

I was like, how have I not seen this before. It wasn't till I saw this picture...

,,, that I said "Oh, that explains that weird Salavador Dali look. It was a work in progress... got it!"

Love seeing the Bubster make the rounds, so thought I would share. And of course another thing I like about this Fan Blog, as websites go down, the Bubsy reference material is mirrored as a backup.

Wow, Bubsy Bobcat rocks being him with 2,136,899,180 on Steam. ** It's good to know the programmers apparently. **

Bubsy the Woolies Strike Back as I have found is moderately easy to complete, but difficult to master. And then you compete against other Bubsy players and naturally this goes to a whole new level.

Had some fun playing on the leaderboards. I achieved 54th place out of 1,000 on the PS4 leaderboard. I've had fun making friends with other players and talking back and forth. Hope to add more friends. So at this time I have 765,405 on the PS4 Leaderboard.

I did find out the Steam leaderboard was different. While the PS4 only shows 1,000 players, the Steam version has 1,269 I believe at last count. There's some carry over of accounts like me who are playing both the Steam and PS4 versions. However, we know that at least 2,269 copies of Bubsy has been sold between the two platforms. Selling for on average say $20, that's $45K in sales right there. I'm sure there were many others sold beyond that. Yeh, I'd be curious to know how many copies were sold in the end both online and physical copies.

However, I made my mark in the Steam leaderboard, showing me at 452nd place with 101,235 points. I've actually finished the game and have 420,600 total points so far but the overall score has not updated. I did On the PS4 if you play the tutorial level the score updates on the leaderboard, but that trick did not work for Steam.

Polar Wildcat submitted a score of 55th place and 628,215, and another friend, Demios, reported being at 47th place at 653,850. I saw these scores and said "I can ace the Steam leaderboard!" Hahaha... no. That is when I noticed that while the PS4 and Steam versions were similiar, I think the gravity is turned up a bit more on the Steam version. There were jumps that I wondered I was going to make, and in the end I just gave up, for now, on some of the difficult jumps I barely make on the PS4 version. More to go in the near future.

But if you have some Bubsy leaderboard scores your proud of, send to me in PM or put them in the replies to this message. See you on the boards PS4 and Steam Bubsy players!
