    * I'm joking about the BSG. It was actually an empty cartridge, I bought off Ebay for the purpose. ;-) No Jag
games were harmed in this activity - no games destroyed. I'd not even destroy shockingly bad homebrews!

That's cool you didn't use a Battlesphere Gold cartridge.   People get rather cranky about that.  :P

That's possible, but I remember discussing this with some others many years ago. I'm not sure that anyone has ever seen a Blue Max rank with anything other than Class 4:

You remembered my message.  Nice!!  I have seen Blue Max class 1 and 3 since that time.

Have to play this soon.  Should be interesting with gravity.

    Hi

I am reading august 1983's edition of Antic magazine and I found a couple of ads for Synapse software, one ad for Dimension X and other for Blue Max. Both ads feature a robot, a mouse and a cat. I remember seeing those creatures in other Synapse ads.

What's the story behind these creatures? Were some kind of mascots or characters from other Synapse game?

    Regards

    Love mascot research!!  :D

This may be one of the best comments I've ever seen on Atari Age.

Though seriously I can't imagine a way for an animal like a mouse to get into the Jaguar. Small insects would be more likely but they wouldn't smell that strong. The leaked electrolytic of failing capacitors tends to have a fishy odor when warmed up, you'll have to open the system and take a look inside to see what's going on.

Kinda what I was thinking about the lack of space inside a Jag CD unit.

Anyway, so Rick, curious how this went and what you found.

  5. Had fun checking the interwebs for Zool related collectables (Books, handheld game, metal pin)

And the Chupa Chups lollypops (which I got from a candy company in the States as they don't normally sell them here).   The lime flavored lolly pop is quite good.

If it was me digging around in there, I'd take a pick / bent paperclip / other similar small implement and try to very gingerly fish it out by the small tab going down into the open battery bay.

What I can't tell is how that conductive cover may attach to the PCB.  Could be soldered, could be wired, could be a pressure-fit when the battery cover is in place, could be something else.  Being careful while figuring this out would be advisable.

Of course naturally.  Appreciate the opinions and will proceed cautiously.

So far I have only seen two occurances of this game.  The one that Gremlin Graphics mentions as a picture from an auction, and this one.    Even a systema fan site did not have this listed as one of the games.

  7. That is actually excellent advice about looking under the conductive cover.

So next question, since I have never seen a conductive cover like that, how, if you have ever experienced one of these before, would you remove the conductive cover?

    Carefully pry it up?

I was able to connect to The Backyard BBS 905-895-5904 in Ontario a few months ago with my own VoIP ATA. (GrandStream HT802, with 2nd port set for no echo cancellation or voice activity detection, G.711 uncompressed, low jitter buffer)

Larger list of systems (including non-atari) that still have modem access here:

BTW... on the Backyard BBS I was told the message base is now full.   If someone has a way to contact the sysop or if he is here, please let him know.

I do enjoy that BBS and wanted to post more.

The Atari ST version of Joust was the best version I had available to me when I was a kid, and, I dunno, I still like it as much as any that isn't the arcade. I spent goodness knows how many hours on it. So the sound seems very natural to me.

Funny thing about the ST version is that it was developed by The Rugby Circle, a two-person bedroom outfit who developed the Color Computer knockoff called Buzzard Bait (which is what I grew up playing before I was allowed to touch the ST :D). It cracks me up that they ripped off the game and then got hired to do the official ST port. It was a different time... (Here's a great Antic article about an ST graphics tool they developed for Joust with some eye-opening making-of details. They were located in the suburbs of Detroit, which was amazing to me as a kid. Game development?!? Here?!?! Well, that didn't last long...)

Makes me wonder what other development went on in Detroit.   Probably a lot, but no one wanted to admit it.  :P

I want to say ... (checks interwebs) ... yep Firestorm, at least the earlier years in the story, took place in Detroit.   I remember that was kinda cool how that city had their resident super hero and I collected Firestorm for years.   Aside from a cool State Fair edition of the X-Men not much seemed to happen in Dallas in the comic book world.

So all that said, cool about Detroit and the origin story of ST Joust development.   Graphically I think the game is amazing and I can see hiring the people who did Buzzard Bait having that prior experience.   Come to think of it, I remember that version.   I remember talking to CJ at one time about adding other sound versions and seeing the CoCo version among versions looked at.  He and I had other sound favorites, but was running out of space and just stuck with the Atari platforms and their sounds.

And a tip to the hat to Rugby Circle for their fine work on ST Joust.  :D

I want to say I've seen this before, but dunno, after all those times of wearing gym uniforms this would have made it a bit more bearable... till I was clobbered for being a dork.  :P

I picked up a Brand new boxed Jaguar off Best Electronics about 6 years ago for $299US. Now they are $599US. Had I have known that I would have bought two back then lol. They were also selling Jag CDs for the same price...

Actually sold one of my CD units and the box I had to a friend for a reasonable price.   Probably somewhere between those numbers you gave. :D

    No regerts!!

I’ve heard both are complete with a few prototypes existing, but they can’t be released due to licensing issues.

Shame.  I really liked VidGrid.   Oh well.

Ha, I bought a phone just so I could 3d scan stuff, but doesn't work all that well, especially on small parts.  Doing 3d models for stuff isn't too terrible, but you would want to print with ABS for sure, I don't think PLA would last very long.

Yeh I agree, especially for the latch, but hey, better than nothing.   And depends on the type of PLA used.    I could see printing the part up, using it for a while, it breaks... oh well, print another part.  :P

Not perfect, but a part that small should only take less than an hour for a quality print.   Be nice if we could get one pattern for the plunger and latch on a combined sheet like.   Much like how you print up one sheet to replace parts on a Star Wars toy ship.

I'll start asking around on people to help scan it.   (sent off one text so far).
