  1. That is actually excellent advice about looking under the conductive cover. So next question, since I have never seen a conductive cover like that, how, if you have ever experienced one of these before, would you remove the conductive cover? Carefully pry it up?
  2. So in my collecting of Zool (Alien Ninja from the Nth Dimension) I picked up a handheld game. Anyone have any idea what batteries it takes? This game also mentioned here: https://www.gremlinarchive.com/index.php/2020/09/05/zool-lcd-electronic-game-systema/
  3. Reminds me of Dark Castle on the Mac or naturally many games like it. Looks like it would be fun. From that link there was this quote which sums up me and games....
  4. BTW... on the Backyard BBS I was told the message base is now full. If someone has a way to contact the sysop or if he is here, please let him know. I do enjoy that BBS and wanted to post more.
  5. Makes me wonder what other development went on in Detroit. Probably a lot, but no one wanted to admit it. I want to say ... (checks interwebs) ... yep Firestorm, at least the earlier years in the story, took place in Detroit. I remember that was kinda cool how that city had their resident super hero and I collected Firestorm for years. Aside from a cool State Fair edition of the X-Men not much seemed to happen in Dallas in the comic book world. So all that said, cool about Detroit and the origin story of ST Joust development. Graphically I think the game is amazing and I can see hiring the people who did Buzzard Bait having that prior experience. Come to think of it, I remember that version. I remember talking to CJ at one time about adding other sound versions and seeing the CoCo version among versions looked at. He and I had other sound favorites, but was running out of space and just stuck with the Atari platforms and their sounds. And a tip to the hat to Rugby Circle for their fine work on ST Joust.
  6. These are really cool! I like the transparent blue cartridge.
  7. Seeing a newsletter makes me want to restore another Portfolio.
  8. I remember the Ms. Pac-Man display! That is awesome. But what I want to see a better picture of the Stargate display. So some merch I found today, the Atari Computer Camp in a Facebook auction.. I want to say I've seen this before, but dunno, after all those times of wearing gym uniforms this would have made it a bit more bearable... till I was clobbered for being a dork.
  9. Actually sold one of my CD units and the box I had to a friend for a reasonable price. Probably somewhere between those numbers you gave. No regerts!!
  10. Shame. I really liked VidGrid. Oh well. Yeh I agree, especially for the latch, but hey, better than nothing. And depends on the type of PLA used. I could see printing the part up, using it for a while, it breaks... oh well, print another part. Not perfect, but a part that small should only take less than an hour for a quality print. Be nice if we could get one pattern for the plunger and latch on a combined sheet like. Much like how you print up one sheet to replace parts on a Star Wars toy ship. I'll start asking around on people to help scan it. (sent off one text so far).
  11. We need to. Best Electronics says they were running low on the parts. I tried to get a 3D scanner but in the end the electronics store I ordered it from just refunded my money. But I had in mind to use it for various Atari parts like that and action figures. Might have to commission with someone that does 3D printing more professionally. There are a few in Dallas.
  12. LOL!!!! Geez.... I needed that. (laughs)
  13. Some fun comments about the Jag CD player, especially all the vaporware titles that were on the original box. However, the games released either officially (like Battlemorph, Hoverstrike, Myst, Dragon's Lair, etc.), later releases (Iron Soldier II, Brain Dead 13), or the homebrew games and ST ports you can burn to discs for playing, even play some prototypes (Soul Star). So if you can't find a Skunkboard, and want an option to burn and load games while you wait for the Game Drive, pick up a fixer upper CD unit and give it a shot.
  14. I got all the pieces in tonight, and I recycled the older JST PHR-6 connector, connecting the right wires to the connector wires. Got all the parts that I ordered in there. The one part that I did not anticipate was the spring on the hatch button, but I found a spring and adjusted to work. At the end of it all, this parts CD player that was not working for the 15 years I've had it played a music CD with VLM and game discs for the first time! Really exciting. Really appreciate the information from this thread and the knowledge that the "optical Pick up" as it was called on the box was really attainable and affordable and a relatively easy replacement. If you can get the one with the smaller JST PHR-6 connector look for that. If not, the other is workable
  15. Cute mascots, cute penguins you got to take out, and even some regular penguins that help fight for you. Varied level designs, and the challenge of getting your weapon to stop the advancing mutant penguins, and to slow them down traps you can set, paths you can divert, etc. I like it. Played it all the way through.
  16. This is what I keep on hand for regular play. Well, ok, I was trying Trevor McFur out but will probably get bumped off this list. Mostly playing Zool 2 lately.
  17. When I started this blog I had honestly forgotten about Baldies. It was a great with cute cut scenes but never got much into it. Maybe if I tried it now, and found my copy, I would like it better? But the pictures of the clay figure got me interested again. So here is an interview I found on Atari about the creator of Baldies for starters.... These pictures were sent to me from our very own Mr. Atari! Mr. Atari said: "By now the clay has hardened and movement is not possible. The previous owner tried, breaking his left arm. (Lol, of the figure I mean)." "it was from Arne. And he told me that he thinks it was one of the figures actually used in the video in the game." We hope to find more on this Jaguar mascot/character as time goes on.
  18. Reference to the Corn Cobs of Death... made me laugh..
  19. Been researching the Zool franchise again in recent times. Yeh, I know basically two games over eleven systems and lots of talk of the third game. But hey, fascinating story overall. So seeing what I can learn and new input is always appreciated. Started a Zool fan wiki https://zool-the-alien-ninja-from-the-nth-dimension.fandom.com/wiki/Zool:_The_Alien_Ninja_from_the_Nth_Dimension_Wiki And while I'd love to talk more Zool for the Jaguar here, also started a thread in his home system, with the Amiga folk: https://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=105266
  20. I can usually get Jaguar carts to run in under three tries, no more than five. If I've played the game in the last year. Plugging in Trevor McFur which I never play... I find plugging and unplugging the cart cartridge removes the corrosion. Also plugging in the cart left corner slightly first, gently rocking cart from left to right as you insert the cartridge. Sometimes lifting up slightly on the right corner of the cartridge helps. Of course Trevor McFur was stubborn. After the tenth try I do the ole Nintendo blow on the pins trick... starts right up.
  21. $65K for a one of two known Amiga CD32 accelerator.  Wow.  (Most expensive retro item I've seen on ebay)

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/CABLETRONIC-accelerator-for-Commodore-Amiga-CD32-4-MB-RAM-VGA-JUST-2-KNOWN/254822730284?hash=item3b549e4a2c:g:GHsAAOSwwbdfaJaX

    1. Keatah

      Keatah

Not sure what that accelerates. It's just 4MB of memory. And the 65K price looks like a placeholder, he will likely take much less, like $500. It's a listing technique.
