We need a "Jaguar Parts" thingiverse.com category or keyword or something. I've been meaning to work on a model for the other piece, the lid closed switch rod, which is even simpler but no less vital.

We need to.  Best Electronics says they were running low on the parts.

I tried to get a 3D scanner but in the end the electronics store I ordered it from just refunded my money.  But I had in mind to use it for various Atari parts like that and action figures.

Might have to commission with someone that does 3D printing more professionally.   There are a few in Dallas.

Sorry, I should have specified the video I referred to was a NES not an n64.  The NES being FAMOUS for carts not working unless you blew on them.

Apparently blowing wasn't enough, this dude tongued his!

LOL!!!!    Geez.... I needed that.   (laughs)

  3. Some fun comments about the Jag CD player, especially all the vaporware titles that were on the original box.

However, the games released either officially (like Battlemorph, Hoverstrike, Myst, Dragon's Lair, etc.), later releases (Iron Soldier II, Brain Dead 13), or the homebrew games and ST ports you can burn to discs for playing, even play some prototypes (Soul Star).

So if you can't find a Skunkboard, and want an option to burn and load games while you wait for the Game Drive, pick up a fixer upper CD unit and give it a shot.

FWIW, I generally just desolder the wiring from the old transport , desolder the wiring from the new transport, then solder the old wires to the new transport when replacing them.

I got all the pieces in tonight, and I recycled the older JST PHR-6 connector, connecting the right wires to the connector wires.   Got all the parts that I ordered in there.   The one part that I did not anticipate was the spring on the hatch button, but I found a spring and adjusted to work.

At the end of it all, this parts CD player that was not working for the 15 years I've had it played a music CD with VLM and game discs for the first time!   Really exciting.

Really appreciate the information from this thread and the knowledge that the "optical Pick up" as it was called on the box was really attainable and affordable and a relatively easy replacement.  If you can get the one with the smaller JST PHR-6 connector look for that.  If not, the other is workable

Is Attack of the Mutant Penguins any fun? This is one I don't have, and I don't know what to make of the reviews. People tend to seem more perplexed than opinionated.

Cute mascots, cute penguins you got to take out, and even some regular penguins that help fight for you.   Varied level designs, and the challenge of getting your weapon to stop the advancing mutant penguins, and to slow them down traps you can set, paths you can divert, etc.

I like it.  :D   Played it all the way through.

  6. Been researching the Zool franchise again in recent times.   Yeh, I know basically two games over eleven systems and lots of talk of the third game.  But hey, fascinating story overall.  So seeing what I can learn and new input is always appreciated.

    Started a Zool fan wiki

And while I'd love to talk more Zool for the Jaguar here, also started a thread in his home system, with the Amiga folk:

  7. I can usually get Jaguar carts to run in under three tries, no more than five.  If I've played the game in the last year.

Plugging in Trevor McFur which I never play...

I find plugging and unplugging the cart cartridge removes the corrosion.

Also plugging in the cart left corner slightly first, gently rocking cart from left to right as you insert the cartridge.

Sometimes lifting up slightly on the right corner of the cartridge helps.

Of course Trevor McFur was stubborn.   After the tenth try I do the ole Nintendo blow on the pins trick... starts right up.  :P

Which pieces did you end up getting from Best if you don't mind sharing and the prices as well? Do they actually have complete replacement lasers as well that's specifically OEM JagCD?

I have a VAM1202 coming in for the replacement laser.  They are all over ebay, about according to the thread about a lot of duds out there.  That should be here next week.

I bought new rubber bumpers, which I hope to find before the laser comes in.  (Looks around)   AHh... found it!

So that leaves the specialized parts and here was the pricing and other info on those:

A little bit for such small pieces of plastic, but vintage.  :D   Really glad we have Best Electronics.  Love the brown tape with "Atari" he ships with.   Makes the experience all the more retro classy.

I don't think it's very good. Not in the same league as Super Burnout. Some like it though.

You know, I think you're right.   Super Burnout I think the thrill is how you can hug the turns.   Atari Karts that just isn't there.   Also what got to me about Atari Karts vs. Merlin Racing (Same company but on the Nuon) is that the power ups are on the track (hard to see) and really aren't that great.  (Merlin Racing got MUCH better).

How is World Tour Racing in comparison to Super Burnout in steering at controls?

  10. So when I got my Jaguar in '99 a friend of mine had me get him a Jaguar and he's had two sets of kids growing up playing the Jaguar.

He said the other day they hooked up the Jaguar to play the one day they play over and over and over again: Super Burnout !!    They have quite a few games on the Jaguar, but that is the one they gravitate back to.

Wondering if they'd like Atari Carts?   Shame World Tour Racing is not on a cartridge.  :D

Club Drive is so ridiculous it can be fun if you don't take it seriously, and the design has a few interesting ideas.

I think what makes the game so fun is that the game's theme is ridiculous.   "It's a toy car driving around a living room driving past... I think that's a cat".   And so on.  :D

I liked the various different sound options. Took me a while to figure out how to change it. But I like the arcade version of arkanoid. Joust, probably 2600...

It's funny but I originally did the 2600 sounds as a joke.  There were so many others, the Atari 8-bit being the first one I did and favorite, that were better.   So figured I'd throw in the 2600 to help make the set complete to represent all the other Atari consoles.

But the Atari 2600 was actually pretty good and ... better than the Atari ST version which is just sad.   :P

And Arkanoid was fun.   A lot of sounds to match up on that one.

  13. Ordered the drive mech, the bumpers, now just need to order from Best Electronics (maybe) a drive latch and the stick that triggers the latch switch.

Yeh, this is a parts CD player that was pretty picked over, but powers up and displays!  :P

(I do have another working model.)

    (hours later)

Was able to reach Best Electronics and order the missing pieces.   Reminds me of the time I fixed up a Portfolio from a thrift store that was missing about... everything.  :P

I like puzzle games, hand-drawn visuals and c-trix's music so, those are the reasons why I like it but I understand why people don't like it as much as I do, as it's more simple than something like Flip Out!, which I also like...

All sounds like good reasons to me.   I liked the original fan game of Tetris .... or was it called JagTris, for the music.
