  1. Now it's cold, dark and wet for many parts of the world. So why not cheer yourself up with some summer fun! Today we are taking a look at Cool Spot.
  2. Well, it was only a matter of time before the Switch looking clones arrived. Actually I'm surprised it has taken this long. Here we are with the PowKiddy RS-11. It comes with GameBoy Advance and NES games built in but that's it. No mention of what else it can play so it's time to experiment.
  3. Yep, Capcom sound on the Mega Drive is bloody awful, especially Super Street Fighter II. As for Sonic Spinball, I don't rate that as good sounding at all. Or Comix Zone either. Maybe that's because I was brought up in Europe. A know that's not the Bare Knuckle version of the song that plays in the game but it's the version I prefer and it is featured on the game so it's all good, no? The machine used to capture the audio is a Japanese Mega Drive 1. Video 2 is up now. Don't worry I didn't slag off GEMS in this one and even feature western tunes that I think are really cool sounding, especially the Time Trax one.
  4. The first Battle of the Ports of 2020 is here !
  5. Hyperkin stuff is generally cheap crap from what I've experienced. This one doesn't do that. I've updatd the video to cover a few points that some people asked in the comments to the old video.
  6. The Mega Drive gets a bad rap when it comes to it's audio quality. This video sets out to show you that the Mega Drive can sound really good and I do mean really good! Each selection of music is recorded from real 1st generation Japanese Mega Drive Hardware. Sound engine name and developer also listed for each music track. Featuring music from the following games (Japanese titles used): 02:57 - Vapor Trail 04:44 - Thunder Force IV 07:14 - Rocket Knight Adventure 08:49 - Super Shinobi II 11:18 - Bare Knuckle II 12:45 - Galaxy Force II 14:07 - Gaiares 15:41 - Gauntlet 17:43 - Gynoug 19:13 - Mega Turrican 21:35 - TMNT Apologise for the out of sync spectrum analyser on the last 3 music tracks. Please think about supporting the show by subscribing to the channel or becoming my patron. Thank you so much! http://www.patreon.com/retrocore
  7. Lack the ability to use RGB? Stuck using crappy composite video or the slightly better S-Video? Then maybe you need the RAD2X HDMI solution for your Sega Saturn. Full review and side by side comparison to RGB. I bought my own unit from Retro Gaming Cables UK. Here's the link - https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/sega/saturn/SEGA-SATURN-NTSC-HD-RAD2X-HDMI-480P-CABLE
  8. Another classic this week on Battle of the Ports but one with a modern home-brew on an ageing system.
  9. A little late to the party on this one but that's okay because that means more time with the console. Here we go with a full review of the LDK Landscape edition. Many say it's less powerful that the portrait style system. Really?
  10. Known as Soldiers of Fortune in the US but The Chaos Engine everywhere else comes yet another classic from the Bitmap brothers. But which versions are the best? Home computer or console?
  11. I think the only version of Centipede I ever played was some unofficial effort on the Commodore Plus 4.
  12. After the awesome 8BitDo M30 pad which lets face it, was made for Sega fans, I wanted to see if their SN30 Pro + was just as good to use. And again, let's face it, this is made with Nintendo fans in mind. Just look at the colour and main body of the pad.
  13. It's the 300th show of Battle of the Ports!! That's right, the show has now been going for 300 weeks or 5 years and 7 months. To celebrate this grand number we are going to take a look at one of the most iconic sci-fi adventure games to come out of Japan. this in Snatcher.
  14. How on earth can a battery bank be entertaining? Well, let's watch on.
  15. Hmm, if PlayStation is your main concern I would opt for the RG-350 above this latest RS-97 variant. The RG-350 is a little more powerful so will run most PlayStation games just fine.
  16. Zool was a game Amiga fans loved and even went as far as saying it was the Sonic The Hedgehog killer. Was it? I doubt it but let's take a look
  17. The RS-97 is back but this time they may have finally gotten it right. We now get an all new IPS screen with a true 60Hz refresh rate and it has better performance. The machine also comes jam packed with roms for every system featured including a few PlayStation games.
  18. A game about pigs blowing each other up?
  19. Today I posted a new video of this month's pick ups.
  20. The RG-350 promises many great points. True 60htz screen with v-sync. Glass screen, fast emulation and HDMI video out. Just how good is it? Let's take a look. If you'd like to buy your own RG-350 you can pick one up at TomTop for 85.99 as of this video going live - https://www.tomtop.com/p-f1996b.html
  21. There's an error on this video where the C64 and ZX Spectrum ports are labelled as "Arcade". Sorry. Here's one that you may have never heard of in the arcades but it still managed to get some home ports. Just a shame they're all crap.
