Scrappy-Doo grows up.   Turns out he was a pup of a large dog breed.

Luckily the mystery gang was good and patient with Scrappy in the puppy years.  As he grew up he became helpful in the mysteries.

Changing the tide, rather than being chased, Scrappy would, 8 times out of 10, chase and catch the "ghosts".  This is good as the Mystery Team was not as young as they used to be.

To tell you the truth, I never had any real disdain towards the character, but see why he is hated. He was one of those things that Hanna-Barbera got very wrong. (Others include poor IP evolution, blindly following other studio's trends, bad color theory in the '70s and '80s., and Kwicky Koala just to name a few.)
