  1. I decided to do another rewrite of the engine again, and now running into space overflow. In case anyone is wondering, I went with 128k this time in the hopes that would fix it. Update: It didn't, and I have included the source file for anyone can figure out what I am doing wrong. Vertical Shooter 3-2-2021.zip
  2. Friendly reminder that this year is Image Comics' 30th anniversary. Especially with YoungBlood, Spawn, Savage Dragon, StormWatch, Shadowhawk, Wild C.A.T.s, and The Maxx.

I was a huge fan of this from late 95 to late 96. After reading DC comics in one of their best eras (late 80s) as an 8-11 year old kid, my 15 year old self somehow decided it was time to go back to super-hero comic-books (the painful transition to high school probably helped) and really wanted to like it, so he bought around 30 comics: a couple of issues of Gen13, 3 issues of Savage Dragon, 1 issue of Spawn, another issue of Freak Force, 3 issues of some terrible series by Liefeld called New Men, 1 of Cyber Force, 1 of Deathblow, 1 of The Maxx...

In retrospect, the only interesting things were the Image logo and the 5 consecutive issues of Wild C.A.T.s written by Alan Moore that I bought at the end of that period (at least my tastes improved over time!).

My conclusion is that not everyone can do a John Byrne successfully and go from just doing the art to also writing the book.

(And yes, I know Spawn and Savage Dragon are decent. I liked the art for those, but I can't say the same about the writing).

I have to concur, but at least Spawn and Youngblood eventually got good over the years. Most notably, Alan Moore's take on Youngblood and the current run of that series from 2011. Rob Liefeld has started to improve on his art. Savage Dragon, unfortunately, has been going downhill for quite some time. That isn't helped by the fact that Erik Larsen can still draw well.

  3. For those who aren't familiar with the inspiration for this:
  4. I am glad that you have put my graphics to good use.
  5. I have to say that New Blood Interactive is on a roll with Gloomwood. Why? Let's just say that it's a better Thief game than Thief 2014 and the Dishonored trilogy combined.

  6. Here's something for fellow Banjo-Kazooie fans:

  7. I hope that Watermelon Magic and Magical Game Factory learns something from this.
  8. Mode Machines x0xb0x, still the best TB-303 clone on the market:

I got Roland TB-03, happy with it.

I think we should show this to Modern Vintage Gamer when the opportunity arises.
  10. I know that this game will be on many Top Ten Atari 7800 Games of all time lists. Especially when finished.
  11. I'm glad that Black Scarab FilmZ is still continuing The Literary Lair and How to Fix It:

  12. That has got to be the best use of the 7800's color palette. You and Piesiu should consider making an actual game with your assembly knowledge.
  13. Thought I would show my attempt at cooking something from Tasting History: HNI_0001.JPG

Herb pie. This one used collard greens, chard, mint, cinnamon, goat cheese, mascarpone, pepper, and eggs. I'm proud of how well it turned out.

  14. This game was well worth the wait.
  15. @awbaconI've been conceptualizing a Super CV4 clone for over a year or so.
  16. Will support for larger ROMs be possible?
  17. Dinohazard:

I know what you guys are thinking, "Dino Crisis meets The Thing." For a prototype, it is surprisingly solid. One thing that it does need is a robust sound engine a la Thief: The Dark Project.

    Fadest, that looks amazing.
  19. Just played the latest WIP, and have to say that it looks and plays better. I have also found some music for inspiration:
  20. The new sprites were a wise choice. Visual clarity is always a must.
  21. The 8-Bit Guy explains machine language:

^This is worth watching for those who want to learn Assembly. By the way, his latest game, Attack of the PETSCII Robots would be perfect for the 5200/8-Bit and 7800.

      x=usr(1536)

Unless I missed it, I didn't hear an explanation of what the X and Y registers are, or what the accumulator does.

      Decent introduction otherwise.

@bluejay: true, but by the same token the video concentrated on the 6502 specifically.  Given that he's only dealing with the one processor architecture, those are a bit outside of scope.

Having said that, I'll completely agree that they're definitely concepts that need to be learned by anyone working on/with different architectures.

  22. I think that this will fix it: BACKGRND=$00 If that doesn't, try $01.
  23. I have to say that this game is coming along nicely.
